Chapter 4

I saw how her forehead creased when she heard me calling her name. That was a mistake of me.

“You know my name?” Phoebe asked while staring at my face.

I just avoided my gaze and pretended that I didn’t hear her. I even pulled the jacket hood to hide my face from her. I can’t afford being exposed now… I don’t want her to know that her friend had become a weird alien.

“You look like someone I know.”

My heart jumped because of that remark. Did she recognize me?

“Anyway, let this big sister accompany you to the other side of the road.”

Oh… even though I don’t want her to recognize me, I do need some help on crossing the road.

So, I gladly accepted her hand while still keeping my head low. I don’t know when it started, but I feel like my senses had grown sharp. Even right now, I can feel Phoebe’s gaze though I’m not particularly looking at her.

I just can feel it.

When we reached the company, I immediately released her hand. I said my thanks and was just about to walk away when Phoebe suddenly mentioned my name.

“Tiffany.”

My heart once again jumped. I feel like it almost jumped out of my chest. But because I have to hide my identity, I kept calm as I turned around to glance at her.

‘It’s okay… I can act. My acting is good.’

I looked at her with my confused gaze as I persuade myself. I just feel like I’m good at acting. Especially acting innocent whenever I did something wrong on the office. It’s just basic survival skill that you need to learn when you’re under a CEO like mine.

“Hmn?” my cute voice came out as I acted lost and confused.

Phoebe stared at me again. This time, I thought she finally recognized me. Her gaze was so intense that I can’t help gulping.

Until suddenly, she raised her brow as she pointed at me.

“Are you Tiffany’s daughter?”

Uh… what?

I’m… my self’s daughter?

But I guess it’s better than being exposed. But even still, I can’t just say yes and agree. So, to avoid her, I quickly turned my back and ran towards the elevator.

“Wait!” I heard her calling me, but I didn’t stop. I didn’t even look back.

I pressed the elevator hastily as I pray for it to open immediately. And open, it did.

I immediately stepped my foot inside and pressed the floor button. As the door closes, I can see Phoebe walking towards my direction. She had her arm stretched, but she was still so far away.

When the door finally closed, I released a heavy sigh before pulling something out of my jacket pocket. It’s my resignation letter.

I came here today to personally deliver this letter and to collect at least some of my things in the office.

Even though I said it’s a resignation letter, it’s just a piece of paper that is folded with my words of goodbye for the company. I did this hastily so you can’t blame me. I panicked when I saw my CEO’s notice so I came without thinking and much preparation.

I just need to resign myself, so that there’s no penalty fee. I can’t afford that 1 million, especially with my state right now. Besides, I’ve been absent for days already. I’m feeling guilty that the company hadn’t fired me yet.

The CEO is a busy person. I can’t even imagine how busy he was, especially when his secretary is not around. I even thought that he was going to fire me even though I wasn’t late and absent. But it seems like that wasn’t the case.

He even threatened me with that one million notice. If he hadn’t sent that, I will, by no means, continue hiding for the rest of my life.

But because I don’t want the police to come knocking on my door, I just decided to resign. And besides, I left my favorite pen on my office desk so I had to come and take it.

It’s a pen that I first bought with my hard-earned money. Its an expensive fountain pen.

Even though I say it’s a pen, I never used it even once to write or sign papers. I just bought it to remind myself that I can afford expensive things now. That I can finally buy things that I want, and not just things that I need.

That’s why it’s important to me.

When the elevator pinged, I stepped out my tiny foot on the floor outside. It was the familiar hall that I always passed by before.

I started walking a little further and took some turns before I finally saw that familiar office door. I missed that door.

I slowed down my steps as I approached. Then I stretched my arm and gently twisted the doorknob.

To make sure no one is inside, I peeked my head first.

Silence welcomed me. It was also so dark that I felt chills.

I really made sure to come here early so that I don’t meet the CEO. It just so happened that Phoebe is early too, but it’s not a problem. As long as the CEO follows his normal schedule that I know, it’s easy to come and go without being noticed by him.

And now, it’s obvious that no one is around yet.

I quietly stepped my foot inside and closed the door behind before switching the lights open. The lights filled the room, making me turn to look around.

Nothing changed. It’s just the way I left it to be.

I stepped my foot further inside before finally reaching the CEO’s office door. I twisted the knob and peeked inside. Even though I knew he wasn’t here yet, I can’t help but feel nervous.

As soon as I opened the door, his aura gushed out. He is always in his office so even if he’s not around, his aura stays. It’s one of the amazing skills of our CEO. Something that not many can achieve.

Confirming that he’s not around, I pushed the door more open. And then I walked towards his office table.

His table is so organized that I can’t even find the trails of work he’s doing. He’s so clean and organized that I can’t help remembering his clean appearance. His appearance says it all.

Before I start dreaming of my dreamy boss, I already approached his desk.

I pulled out the folded paper in my pocket and placed it in his desk. Then I took his pen holder and used it to keep the paper on place.

Now that I already left the message, all I had to do is take my pen and leave. So, I hurriedly exited his office and went to my work desk.

I pulled the drawer where I used to hide my pens open, and searched for my fountain pen.

But it was not there.

I then pulled another drawer open, but still… it was nowhere to be found.

I remember leaving it here… did I perhaps forget?

Let’s try looking a little more…

But that little more lasted five minutes. And then fifteen minutes. Until I reached thirty minutes, but still found nothing.

I was finally feeling depressed when I heard something outside the room.

“Yes… I’ll be on my way… yes…”

It was so faint, but I knew immediately who it was.

It’s him.

The CEO had arrived.

What should I do?

Of course, hide!
