Chapter 4

“Haaa…Haaa” Tanya panted as she supported her upper body to her knee, she removes her mask to breathe properly as she run out of air.

She leaves the building with some people chasing her, luckily, she lost them but she had the feeling that they would find her if she stayed here any longer.

Tanya went to the clothing shop next door; she picks up some random clothes and went to the changing room to change. She then went to the cashier and pay for the clothes, just as she’s about to leave, she notices a summer straw hat on the side. She grabs the summer straw hat and wore it; she pays the payment with great sadness in her heart as she felt sad wasting money instead of paying for her sister’s surgery bill.

‘No, it’s okay Tanya. Now that I have money, I can pay the bill now’ she optimistically thought to herself as she leaves the store, some of the men who were chasing her earlier pass her by as she continues to walk with her thumb is pressing on her palm.

Tanya walks forward with her eyes closed, suddenly she felt something blocking her way. The two fell to the ground, Tanya let out a small groan before looking up. 

She saw the woman with cold eyes looking at her, the woman has silver hair and blue eyes. The woman stands up so Tanya, Tanya apologized as she walks out. ‘That woman looks so gorgeous!!’ she thought to herself as she walks but the feeling of uneasiness didn’t disappear.

She could feel her heartbeat so loudly, every beat echoed to her ears as she felt uneasy. Tanya walks to the bus station and waited for the bus to come, she looks around left and right to see the people who are coming.

Tanya only felt relaxed when she entered the bus with the bag on her back, she sat on the back seat of the bus while looking at the window.

Tanya hurriedly runs to the reception of the hospital; the receptionist already is familiar with Tanya and lets her come to Kayla’s room without going to her.

“Where’s the doctor?” Tanya asks one of the nurses who pass by Kayla’s room. “The doctor should be here in any minute Miss Elsher” the nurse replied to Tanya’s question with a smile on her face before walking ahead.

Tanya heard the nurse answer, she went back inside and sat down in the chair. A minute later, the door open. It was the doctor who enter the room, “You’re looking for me?” a woman’s voice sounded in the room with a playful tone on her voice.

Tanya looks at her back, the female doctor walks towards her and hits her head with her clipboard.

Tanya frowns slightly as she stands up. “What was that for?” she grumbles, she patted her head before changing the subject. “I have the payment for Kayla’s surgery” she stated as she picks up the bag from the floor.

“Then let’s go to my office” the doctor spoke as she turns her body and walk out of the room, Tanya followed the doctor with the bag in her hand.

The two entered the office, Tanya sat down on the chair while the doctor took a coffee from the coffee machine before taking a sit on her chair. “You’re paying for Kayla Elsher’s surgery bill?” the doctor repeated Tanya’s word as she flips over the paper that was pinned to her clipboard.

“Yes,” Tanya responded to the doctor as she took out all the money from the bag and place it on the table. The doctor nodded as she began to count the money, it took her quite some time before she spoke. “Miss Eshler…unfortunately your money isn’t enough to start Miss Kayla’s surgery, we need more than 80% to start the surgery” the doctor informed with an apologetic tone in her voice.

“Oh…” Tanya uttered in deep disappointment in her voice, her head was downcast as she pressed her thumb to her palm, digging her thumb to her flesh as it almost bleed.

“How much do I need to start Kayla’s surgery?” she asks as she still looks down, her bangs covering her eyebrows and her eyes, making it hard for the doctor to read her emotions.

“the surgery cost 20 million, you at least need 15 million to start the surgery” the doctor stated as she leaned down, she looks at Tanya’s beautiful face and felt pity for Tanya and Kayla.

Tanya clenches her teeth, the thumb that was pressing on her palm dig into her flesh that it started bleeding. Tanya felt pain in her palm but she ignored it as she felt lifeless, anger and disappointed in herself.

“Please excuse me” Tanya excuse herself as the doctor, she stands up and leaves. She went to Kayla’s room as she gently closes the door, Tanya sat on the chair while gently caressing her cheek.

“Kayla…wait for a while, your sister is going to do everything to make you okay…you’re my only family so don’t leave me”

Tanya murmured to herself as she tried her hardest to hold the tears that are forming under her eyes.

[Ding]

The sound of notification makes Tanya flinch, she took her phone out of her pocket and saw the message that was sent from one of her friends.

She opens her phone and went to the message, there’s a link in one of the messages that her friend sends. Tanya clicks the link, her eyes dimmed in disappointment as soon as she saw the hiring poster that she saw earlier.

[Tanya: I already saw this; I can’t apply to this job since they only need men]

She sent a message to her friend with her eyes downcast, within a second, her friend sent her a reply.

[Athy: I know but I also know that you need a big money for your sister’s surgery. You can cross-dress as a man; don’t worry I won’t tell the boss]

When Tanya saw Athy’s message, she couldn’t help to tear up, feeling her friend’s love and care. She tightly held her phone and cover her eyes with her other hand.

Tanya decided to call her friend instead of texting her.

“Thank you…thank you so much, Athy, you don’t know how grateful I am to you” Tanya thank Athy with all her heart in a brittle voice, she could barely hold her tears as she spoke.

“That’s what are friends for Tanya” Athy’s sweet voice came through Tanya’s phone. The two talk for a while before they hang up.
