Chapter Four - Challenge Accepted

*Anita's POV*

“Go over and talk to him. Your staring is becoming borderline creepy”, Caroline said.

She was right, but I didn’t care. This was my mate, the person I have been waiting for. The other half and the one I belonged with.

Ever since I was younger, I knew this would happen, but now that I’ve found him it was kind of surreal.

I couldn’t fathom it was happening and truthfully I was shocked.

“I will. I... I just can’t believe this” I sighed.

“Me either. You finally have found your mate” she hummed.

“Yeah, and he’s human” I mumbled.

“Who’s cares? You need to go over and speak to him” she urged but, I didn’t move.

It was like I was glued to the floor and all my confidence evacuated the building.

I had never felt like this in my life. I was an Alpha, so confidence was a necessity for me, but now it was all gone.

“What if he doesn’t like me? Or what if he does but finds out that I'm a werewolf and rejects me?” I mumbled nervously.

“No, we are not playing the doubt game, Anita. You're the Alpha of one of the strongest werewolf packs in the world. You’ve been waiting years to find your mate, watching others get happiness and now it’s your turn. I will not allow you to act like this, now get over there!” Caroline said and pushed me forward.

Taking a deep breath, I nodded and headed over to the booth where he was sitting.

As I stood in front of him I felt my confidence flood back into my body.

He didn’t seem to notice my presence as his eyes were bound to his computer screen.

"Excuse me”, I said, gaining his attention.

“U-Uh yes” he stuttered, causing me to smile.

“Hi. I was over there with my friend when I noticed you over here by yourself. I was wondering if you’d like some company”, I spoke taking a seat across from him.

“Oh, my friend was suppose to come with me, but she waited until the last minute to cancel” he sighed.

“How unfortunate? Do you always bring a computer to the bar? Acting all so nerdy and corporate, huh?” I asked smiling as he blushed lightly while rubbing the back of his neck.

“She dragged me out tonight, so I figured the least she could do was let me catch up on work” he murmured.

“Sounds about fair. Must be exciting. Your eyes were practically glued to it” I said.

“To me it is. I’m an accountant. I know many people find my job boring, but it fits me” he explained.

“How so?” I wondered.

“I like numbers and I don’t have to be around people all the time. I can be by myself” he answered.

“You're a loner, I see” I sighed.

“Not really. I just prefer to not draw attention to myself” he argued.

“Don’t you get lonely?” I questioned.

“No, I like it that way” he defended, staring directly at me. "I like me that way", he repeated, smiling.

I felt my alpha instinct kick in at the thought of him challenging me.

Quickly I calmed down because this was my mate and I didn’t want to hurt him. Afterall, he was human and therefore fragile.

“Well then, I guess I’ll have to leave you to your work since you like being alone so much” I grumbled and stood up.

As I made to walk away, he grabbed my wrist and the sparks were instantaneous, traveling all through my body.

Deep within myself, I fought so hard to resist the urge to curl up in the warmth his touch was providing me.

“Wait, I’m sorry for being rude”, he breathed letting go of me and taking the heat with him.

“It’s fine. I was being a little intrusive, by the way”, I murmured, pushing back a strand of my hair.

“We can start over. My name is Kelly Salvatore”, he told me while smiling softly as a light blush covered his face again.

“Anita Williams” I replied.

“Hopefully you can forget about me acting like an asshole, Anita. I’m not always like this”, Kelly groaned causing me to grin.

“Don’t worry. Though, if we’re starting over, how about we meet up sometime”, I suggested, hoping he’d say yes.

“Uh I don’t really know when I’ll have the time”, he said.

“Well, how about I give you my number and when you have the time, you call me. I’ll be waiting” I told him.

He gave me his phone and I sharply typed my number in it.

“Okay” he exhaled.

“Good. It was nice meeting you, Kelly” I spoke before walking away.

“How did it go?” Caro asked when I returned back to her.

“Great” I replied glancing back over at him.

I had a feeling that getting Kelly as my mate was going to be a little bit difficult. He seemed like my total opposite but, honestly I didn’t really care.

This is one challenge I am not backing down from!
