“Mom, is this a joke to you!” I couldn't believe she made such a decision without asking me first. Yes, I was older to know what was happening. And she was old enough to make her decisions, but this was something we both had to talk about.

“Sweetie, I know this isn't right….but we have to be safe, he's powerful and living with us…will be beneficial to us,” my mom said calmly, I hated how she made such a decision without me. I didn't need a stepfather, and she didn't need a husband.
