Dimitri
Hey, don't look at me that way Anabelle, I said and cupped her face in my hand, staring at her vividly. She tried so hard to hide the tears threatening to fall from her eyes making my heart stop for a moment.
"I just can't take it, Dimitri, I know this is college and we are both going to path ways, but no matter how hard I'm trying to convince myself and not say it out loud that it hurt, I'm seriously in pain, I just can't let you go yet," she poured out and sat on the bed sniffing in.
"I know my love, please don't break down in front of me, it makes my heart bleed in pain too," I told her sitting next to her as I wrapped my hands slowly around her waist.
This girl, was the love of my life, as much as I had to admit that I didn't plan to fall for her,but I just couldn't help it. I know I promise myself not to fall for any girl here till I'm done with college. Now watching her break in front of me makes me feel so bad.
I didn't regret falling for her, I just regret putting her through this pain. We were done with our graduation from college a few weeks ago and my dad didn't waste any time demanding my presence back in Russia.
I have to carry my father's legacy and responsibilities as his true heir and I knew full well that I can't run away from this, knowing how dangerous of a person my father is.
If he finds out I'm with any girl, or she has anything to do with my sudden outburst or refusal to come, he would send his boys dragging me down to Russia themselves.
I know full well how this works, and I have to keep my part of the promise and go back home without causing any trouble for my beloved Annabelle.
"Do you have to go so soon Dimitri, I thought perhaps you were going to stay, or we could," she paused and broke down into another round of tears.
"I know it sounds ridiculous, but I promised my dad that after college I'll come back immediately to continue the family business," I told her and wrapped my hands around hers.
"I'll come to get you, immediately things begin to go alright okay, so please stop crying and let's enjoy our little date," I said smiling at her.
"I'll be here waiting for you my love, I promise you that," she asked staring at me intensely.
"Where ever you are, I'll come for you my love," I say to her and kissed her knuckles.
"You promise? she asked, looking at me and forcing a smile from her face,"
"I promise," I said and smashed my lips on her as I kissed her and slowly began to cup her breast in my hands...
*
I stare at the glass of vodka in my hands, as those memories played in my head repeatedly like it was a scene I needed to be a constant reminder of...
she made a promise to me to wait for me, she said she was going to wait till I come for her, but she broke that promise, when I came for her, she was no longer there. The only information I got from her was that she left the town six weeks after my departure.
I couldn't understand, everything didn't make any sense to me, even after five years, I still think of her, I still see her in my dreams. Somehow I just wished I hadn't left, or she hadn't broken her promise, maybe then I wouldn't be feeling this way.
I was still having the glass of vodka, remembering all the happy moments we shared and how much light she had brought to my dark world.
"Anabelle" I muttered smiling at myself, when I heard someone knock on the door, making me sigh...
"Come in," I said in a cold tone, without staring at who it was that walked in...
Boss, I heard Yuri's voice, making me turn around to stare at him. As I look at him, I could see the worries in his eyes as he stare at me, as if something bad was going to happen. Before I could ask what was happening, the door burst open again, but this time harshly revealing my dad, making my face squeeze a bit.
"And where is he," dad said staring at me with anger blazing through his eyes, as he pointed his walking stick in my direction.
I turned to look at Yuri whose head was bowed as he stood there like he was some robot making me sigh.
'Why didn't you mention he was here, Yuri?" I questioned him through gritted teeth, which made him move backward in fright.
"I see, so you asked your guards not to let me in," he said approaching me and I could feel cold chills running down my spine. This man here wasn't just my father, he was that powerful, very powerful and I need not remind myself that this sudden visit of his would only add more problems.
*And to what do I owe this surprise visit," I asked him in a cold tone as my face harden.
"I see you've grown and my presence doesn't scare you like before," he uttered impressed when he let out a dry laugh.
"Isn't that what you wanted, after all, a cold beast just like yourself," I said ignoring the fact that a few guards were still present listening to us.
"Is that how you welcome your old man, first dismiss your boys and we can discuss as to why I'm here to see you," he said sitting comfortably on the couch in the center of the room while I dismissed Yuri and the others for privacy.
"Now spill it, what do you want this time, cause if I recall, I've done everything you demanded," I said and sat on the next couch facing him.
"Well it's nothing you should worry about, I just wanted to tell you to know that I already formed a truce with the Russian," he paused and stare back at me.
Okay? I managed to say.
"And the agreement for that truce between the Russian and Italian family was that you get married to his daughter," he said dropping the bomb which almost made my eyeballs pop out as I stared at him in shock..
Chapter 24Jayda scooped her phone off the nightstand table and turned off the annoying ring of the alarm. It’s a bright Monday morning yet, Jayda didn’t feel like stopping by at the store today. Some days she wished she’d hired a manager on her behalf so that she can excuse herself from work on days like this but, she’s yet to afford extra hands.Shortly after, her phone rings from an unknown number.“Hello…” She said wearily.“Is this Euphoria?”Jayda quickly sits properly on the bed to receive the call in an appropriate tone. She most times forgets her line is on Euphoria’s social media accounts. It’s too late to do anything about the unpleasant early morning client calls; she will just have to purchase another number in place of her line.“Yes it is”“I k
Chapter 23“Mum please get the door, I’m still in the shower,” Lucy said at the top of her voice prompting Jayda to get the door from the kitchen. She twisted the knob open to see Brian standing in front of her. She gasped in shock and almost closed the door but, he stuck his foot out to halt the movement. Jayda had no idea why she wanted to close the door: It is not like she is doing anything illegal. Just then, Isabelle slid her head out behind Brian.“Aunt Jayda,” She said with an enchanting giggle and hurried to her embrace. Jayda hugged her while still in shock as to how Brian knew her address.“Brian, you are here!’’ Lucy exclaimed on her way to the door while still slightly dripping from the shower she just had.Jayda watched in awe as Lucy ushered both Brian and Isabelle in.“And you must be Isabelle? I have heard so much about you. Come here you little cutie” Luc
Chapter 22It’s been three days since the Tuesday incident as well as the last time she heard from both Shawn and Brian. She’d worried more about the latter than the former. Life gave her another chance to mark a clean slate with her godson but Brian ruined that chance when he tried to uproot the same mistake that drove a wedge of distance between them nine years ago. She feels very remorseful for not pushing him away the minute he pulled her close…. She’s far older and should know better. After carefully thinking about everything, Jayda came to the conclusion that she and Brian need to sit down and talk about this in a more civil manner… One that does not involve any sexual tension. She also wondered if what happened in her office was payback for throwing him out because why else would a married man do such a despicable thing and worse, with his child around? This only made her feel dirty, one,
Chapter 21 On the walk back home, Jayda couldn't excuse the event that just happened in her store from her thoughts even if she tried. At some point, she absentmindedly smiles but was quick enough to replace it with furrowed brows so as not to let Shawn catch on.Jayda couldn't deny the fact that that the rest of their celebratory dinner turned awry following the incident. She had been silently praying to God that Shawn doesn't bring up the issue because of the continuous awkwardness it would breathe.Who would have thought? All these years she'd been constantly hating on herself for letting him go and worse, letting her friend down. She'd been praying to God every single day for his wellbeing wherever he may be and for God to make them see each other at least one last time. The little boy she knew is no longer little, he's a man. A married man and father to a girl she adores. While he almost kissed her, Jayda found
Chapter 20"Daddy!" Isabelle hurried to Brian's embrace. He's been leaning on his car while waiting for her arrival at the school gate which just a few feet from the school building. He hardly shows up to pick her at her school- the driver or Khloé does- but today is different."Came to surprise my birthday princess" He bends down to meet her height. She gives him a tight hug.Isabelle climbed into the back seat and Brian closed to door to start the car."Mum brought me cake""Where's my chunk?""Ms Jayda shared all of it to my classmates""Ms Jayda?" He asked, curiously looking at her through the rearview."Yes, the woman from last time who saved me. She made the cake mum ordered and brought it to my school. We took pictures, danced and had so much fun." The little made so many happy gesticulations while narrating her experience."That's so kind of her" Brian said absentmind
Chapter 19After the finishing touches, Jayda stared at her just-concluded creation. The two tiers red velvet cake had red crumbs around and layered with dripping like cheese butter frosting coupled with an animated picture of Moana in the middle. It's a couple of minutes past two and she is more than happy to have finished the job on time. She took a quick peep at the cake one more time before calling it a night. Although her house is just a few blocks away, Jayda couldn't take the risk of going back home especially because of the dark ally she'll need to walk through before her house. She'd brought all her toiletries in the morning and a change of clothes. She makes a mental gratitude for that. She contemplates calling Shawn, not wanting to disturb him in case he's asleep but then again, she needs to shut her eyes too. It's been a busy opening day and coupled with this order, it is only natural for her to just go to bed. Feeling too tired to take a showe
