OLIVIA’S POV

Jessica came in an hour later after Mr. Monroe left, and then I was released. My mind was filled with the thoughts of my discussion with him as I walked behind Jessica to the car.

“Care to tell me what happened now?” Jessica asked me, her question whisking me out of my thoughts.

I looked up to find that we were already standing in front of her worn-out Cadillac. That girl needs to change this wretched-looking vehicle already.

Ignoring her question, I sauntered over to the passenger’s side, eager to get out of this place. My hand slid through the empty space where the door handle should have been as I tried to open the door. I glanced down, noticing that Jessica had yet to fix the door handle that had broken about a month ago.

“When do you plan to get this door fixed?” I asked her, my eyes squinting from the effect of the sharp golden rays of the evening sun.

She let out a sharp breath, shaking her head. Without another word, she got into the car and opened my door from the inside. I held the door till I got in I didn’t want to have to wait for her to open it for me again if it closed.

We sat there in silence for several minutes before Jessica kicked off the engine and began to drive out of the station.

“I leave everything I am doing to come get you out of here,” she began, smoothly maneuvering the cars on the highways as we headed east in the direction of our apartment. “And you can’t even tell me why you were at the police station.”

I remained mute, my silence adding to the frustration coursing through her.

She glanced at me, quickly returning her eyes to the road, her fingers gripping the steering wheel a little bit too tightly. “I know this has to do with that scumbag, Kelvin,” she continued, her jaw tightening. “That’s why you don’t want to tell me about it.”

I exhaled, relaxing my shoulders as I stared out of the window.

“I don’t know how many times you want me to tell you this, but I will keep saying it till it sinks into your head.”

Oh no! Another lecture about Kelvin, I groaned internally.

“You have to leave that lowlife, Olivia. He does nothing but put you in trouble. Weren’t you just picked up by some thugs a few weeks ago for some stupid shit he did?” I felt her eyes briefly on me before she returned them to the road. “And now, you are being picked up by the police.” She drew in a long breath. “By the freaking police, Olivia!” Her voice was beginning to rise.

She paused for a second. “There has to be an end to this madness of you being in love with him, Olivia. Kelvin doesn’t give a shit about you. The only person he cares about is himself, and you are too blind to see it.”

My lips pressed into a tight line, my elbows resting on the window as I held my hand to my head. “I don’t expect you to understand what Kelvin and I have,” I told her, irritated by her constant preaching. “And you don’t see me out here advising you to leave Justin.”

“That’s because…” she snapped, but immediately got a grip on herself. She cursed under her breath, her fists slamming against the steering wheel to curtail her rage.

“I know. Kelvin can never be the man that Justin is,” I said to her, ignoring her outbursts. “Not every one of us is privileged to be loved by a saint like Justin.”

Her shoulders dropped as those words left my lips, and I could tell that they had affected her in a certain way.

The ride went on in silence till she turned towards the corner of our house.

“I will be stopping at the next block,” I informed her, picking up my bag and pulling the straps to my shoulders.

She didn’t say anything. Didn’t even look at me or ask me why I was going to see Kelvin despite what he had done.

She stopped by the pavement in front of Kelvin’s apartment, and I got out of the car. She rolled the window down, stretching her neck to look at me.

“The day you finally grow the balls and break up with that douche…” she paused, searching my face. “I will be very happy for you.”

I forced a smile at her, my lips trembling at the sides.

“I will be home as soon as I can,” I told her.

She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, whatever.”

I stepped back, watching as her car rolled back into the streets and down to the corner where our apartment was located.

Taking a deep breath, I turned to the house, taking calculated steps towards it as my mind replayed the events that happened that morning.

I hesitated before I lifted my hand to knock on the door as I got to it. I stepped back to wait for him to open the door. I could see his bike at the corner of his apartment, so that meant he was around.

There was no response for the first few minutes I stood there, but as I lifted my hand to knock again, I noticed the crack in the door. I turned the door knob to find that the door was open.

I shook my head. I had warned Kelvin about the carelessness of leaving his door open. The last time he was robbed didn’t teach him a lesson, from the looks of things.

I exhaled sharply, then pushed the door to get in. Soft music played from the speakers in his bedroom, the sound of it relaxing my mood until my eyes landed on the clothes discarded on the floor.

Kelvin’s favorite chinos trousers and a pink lace bra lying on top of it.

My heart constricted with panic, my eyes widening at the sight of the filthy material that wasn’t mine.

Walking further into the house, I noticed more discarded clothes.

Denim bum shorts.

The floral shirt I got for Kelvin on his birthday last month.

His boxers.

And then… a pink lace panties, matching the bra I saw earlier.

My first instinct was to turn and leave this place, as I had no idea what I would find when I got into the room, but my legs carried me on.

I stopped when I got to the bedroom door, my heart beating loudly in my chest. I pinned my ears to the door, the sound of kissing and muffled voices slipping through the slightly ajar door.

“I am so happy she is no longer here to keep us away from each other,” I heard a familiar female voice say as her moans filled the air. “I hope she rots in that prison. I hope she never gets out of there,” she continued.

“Olivia is just a fool,” I heard Kelvin say. “Too bad she is so in love with me when i don’t feel a thing for her.” The sound of the female coice laughing sliced through me like a sharp swish. “I wasn’t surprised when she agreed to take the fall for me,” he continued. “If she goes to prison, we will have all the time in the world to be with each other.”

My heart broke at the sound of what I was hearing, the music drowning out their voices as i stood frozen in the haze of the betrayal.

Filled with rage, I pushed the door open, watching with disgusted eyes as they scrambled away from each other, their naked bodies disconnecting.

I marched to the wall socket where the speakers were plugged in, my breathing rough as I pulled the plug out. I turned to face them, my chest moving in an uneven pattern.

“Olivia,” he droned, pulling a blanket to cover himself. “What are you doing here?”

Angela pulled the blanket to cover herself too, a mocking smirk dancing on her lips as she held my gaze.

I bit back the tears that stung the back of my eyes. I won’t give Angela the satisfaction of seeing that she had hurt me.

“Babe… It’s not what you think,” Kelvin said, clutching tightly to the blanket.

My eyes remained on the tangled sheets as my hands trembled at my sides, my rage barely contained.

Jessica’s voice echoed in my head. “He does nothing but put you in trouble.”

A lump formed in my throat, not from the betrayal before me, but from every time I had made excuses for him.

And then it hit me. Hard like a sledgehammer.

The truth that I had kept hidden over the years as I had clutched on to him.

Kelvin had never loved me. Not ever.

Too bad it took me this long to realize how much of a fool I have been for him.

“It’s fine,” I told him, steadying my breathing. “I don’t have to be in prison for you to get rid of me, because as of today, you are free from me.” I paused to catch my breath. “I am breaking up with you, Kelvin.” His eyes widened with shock. “So, you can go ahead and sleep with this whore for all I care. I am done with you,” I blurted, turning on my heels to leave.

Angela’s smirk remained on her face as I left the room, and I had to restrain myself from walking up to her to slap that stupid smirk off her face.

“What? No!” He sprang to his feet, rushing after me, the blanket from the bed wrapped around his waist. “You can’t break up with me, Liv. Remember that I am all that you have since your mother went to prison. I was there for you.”

“And how quick you were to send me to meet her so that you could have fun with that whore,” I retorted, my sharp voice echoing through the house as I headed for the front door. “I am done with you, Kelvin. Get lost.”

He stopped following me, a bitter chuckle escaping him. “You really think you would find someone who would put up with someone like you?”

Those words stopped me in my tracks. I slowly turned back to face him, my blood boiling with righteous anger.

“You should be glad that I am even interested in you,” he continued, taking a few steps closer to me. “No man would even look your way if you leave me.”

A smug grin appeared on my face, a sinister laugh on its heels. “I am sorry to break this to you,” I spat at him just as he stopped before me, our faces only a few inches away from each other. “Not only am I breaking up with a selfish prick like you, but I am getting married to another man in a week.”

JASON’S POVMy lips curled as I watched her and her friend leave the conference room, deep in thought as the events that just unfolded replayed in my mind.“If his legs don’t work, how do I know the rest of him works?”I scoffed in derision. What the hell?Like I would lie with her if I were paid a billion dollars. The familiar heat of resentment burned behind my eyes. The sheer audacity of her. My father finally finished talking with his minion, Christopher Brown. That sucker had been in the family for as long as I remember and sometimes, the lines between professionalism and personal interests blur. He had become an extension of the family, always present at family functions and available at my father’s beck and call. At least he enjoyed the perks that came with it. Christopher gave me a curt nod before he exited the room, and soon enough, I was alone with my father again. The bane of my existence.“I believe that went well,” he commented almost immediately after the door shut

OLIVIA’S POVJessica paced the space before me as we sat outside the conference room we had just vacated. I watched from the glass walls as father and son raised their voices at each other, unable to make sense of anything they were saying. Several thoughts swelled in my head at the same time. So this was why there hadn’t been any news about him since that accident. There were so many questions to be asked and answers to be sought. “What do you think they are arguing about in there?” I asked Jessica in a low tone, ignoring the mood that my decision to annul the contract I had just signed had brought on us. Her eyes darted to me, an incredulous look on her face. “What do you think they are arguing about?” she asked, throwing my question back to me rhetorically. I fixed my gaze on the shiny tiles beneath my feet. “I never wanted any of this,” I said softly. She sighed, then approached me, crouching to take my hand in hers. “You can still stop all of this, Olivia. You can’t go to

Jessica sat at my side, her eyes offering me all the courage I needed to get through this meeting. “I was going to reject your offer,” I told him. He let out a short laugh, slightly amused by my words. “And what made you change your mind?” I rolled my shoulders, my lips curling downward. “The deal is only for a year,” I began to say. “And with all the juicy offers you made alongside this deal, one would be a fool not to take it.” It was a miracle that I could speak, with all the nerves threatening to cripple me. The scene of Kelvin in bed with that bitch, Angela, replayed in my mind, and I could almost feel my hands curling around her neck and snapping life from her. “And, besides,” I continued, shaking the memory away. “I don’t think I fancy being dressed in orange for the ne

  • 365 Days Contract with the Paralyzed Billionaire    An Unexpected Proposal

OLIVIA’S POVThe fluorescent lights cast a dull yellow glow over the cramped cell room, the walls stained with peeling paint and old scratches. I sat hunched on the cold bench, my elbows resting on my knees, and my head bowed low between my thighs. My hair fell to the sides of my face, hanging like a curtain as I focused on taking a few breaths. I have been locked up here for hours, and this place was beginning to creep me out, the occupants looking like they wanted to jump at me at any given opportunity. Although none of them had made any move to bully me, I knew it wouldn’t be long before one of the wild dogs tried to demonstrate authority as I had seen in the movies. The metallic clink of keys unlocking the door broke me out of my haze, and I lifted my eyes to find a uniformed officer in the hallway. “Olivia Carter?” he asked as he got into the room, a finger clinging to a belt hoop as his hand hung loosely from it, while the other held onto his baton as he struck a funny pose.
