Jessica didn't sleep that night.

Even with the heater off and the room freezing, sweat clung to her skin like guilt. Everytime she closed her eyes, she imagined her mother's voice, the bills piling up, and Romeo's voice saying, "Then we begin tommorow.

Tomorrow was now today.

At exactly 8am, a knock came at the door. She

opened it to find a tall man man in a blacksuit- no expression, no greeting. He handed her a sealed black envelope and walked away without a word.

She stared at the evelope like it might explode.

Inside was the contract.

Temporary Matrimony Agreement- twelve pages of precise, cold languages. Her name was printed on every page, binding her to a world she didn't belong in.

"Marriage shall last exactly 365 days."

"No physical intimacy unless both parties agree". Violation of discretion will result in contract termination and loss of benefits".

And the final clause:

$250,000 upon completion. All personal debts cleared.

Her hands trembled. This wasn't a dream. This was real. A transaction.

By noon, another knock came- this time , a car.

The driver took her to a tall glass building town. Blackwood Holding gleamed like something untouchable.

When she stepped into Romeo's office, her breath caught .

He was sitting behind a sleek black desk, wearing a charcoal suit and a watch that probably cost more than her entire life. His cold gray eyes rose to meet hers - sharp, unreadable.

"You came, " he said simply.

Jessica swallowed. "You left me no choice. "

"There's always a choice ", Romeo said, standing. "You jus didn't like the others ".

He walked around the desk and handed her a pen.

" Sign"

Her fingers brushed his as she took it. Ice to her warmth.

She stared at the line with her name. It felt like signing away her freedom....but she had no freedom to begin with.

" One year", She whispered .

" Exactly ".

She signed.

Romeo took the contract, his expression unreadable .

"Welcome to the cage, Mrs Blackwood "

He turned and walked away without another word.

Jessica stood frozen, pen still in hand.

What had she just done?

Jessica just stood there, frozen, staring at the space Romeo had just left behind. His office was cold. No in temperature, but in atmosphere. Everything was spotless, sharp, intimidating. Much like the man himself.

Her fingers still tingled from where they had brushed his. The pen, mow back on the table, felt havier than before- like it had signed more than just a piece of paper.

She left out a shaky breath.

You're not his wife. You're a name in a contract. That's all.

But the words didn't comfort her. They sounded hollow. She had agreed to step his world, and from what she'd seen so far, that world didn't welcome weakness.

The door creaked behind her. One of his assistants entered- a young woman in heels, holding a sleek white folder.

"Miss..... Mrs Blackwood", She corrected quickly, "Mr Romeo asked to give you this. It's your transition plan. Your schedule starts this evening".

Jessica blinked. "Schedule?"

"Yes, " the woman said , politely but firmly. "You'll be moving into his penthouse at 6pm. A driver will pick you up. The press already has wind of the marriage , so discretion is necessary. You'll find clothing instructions and public behavior guideline inside.

Jessica hesitated, then took the folder.

"Thanks"

"Also". The woman smiled a little.

"Congratulations. No everyone get this kind of opportunity ".

Jessica didn't respond. She just noded, though inside, she wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. The woman exited as smoothly as she came.

Jessica sat in the private lounge beside the elevator, folder unopened on her lap. Her heart still hadn't slowed down . She wasn't sure it would for a while.

A wife.

She was someone's wife.

Not because of love, not because of vows, but because she was desperate - and he was dangerous.

Her eyes drifted down to the folder.

Inside it, her new life waited: roles to play, appearance to keep, lies to maintain.

She didn't know what scared her more - that Romeo had given her no choice....

Or that a part of her had wanted to say yes.

Jessica's pulse hammered as the silence dragged out, the hallway light flickering faintly above them. Every shadow seemed to press closer, watching, waiting. The man didn't move, didn't flinch, as though he had been expecting this very moment. Romeo's voice cut through the tension, sharp and steady. "Say your name". The stranger's eyes, dark with years of weariness, met Romeo's. Then they shifted to Jessica so piercing, so achingly familiar that she staggered back a step. And then he said it. "Michael". Jessica froze. Her breath caught. That name she hadn't spoken it in years. Couldn't. Her brother. The world seemed to tilt sideways, her body numb as the pieces refused to fit together. Michael had been gone. Taken. Left for dead in a world that showed no mercy. She had mourned him, carried the grief like a blade in her chest. But now he was standing here, flesh and bone, looki

  • 365 Days With My Fake Husband    The Turning Point

The night was queit, too queit for a city that never truly slept. Jessica stood by the window, her hand resting against the cool glass, staring at the streets below where shadows moved and neon lights flickered like dying stars. Somewhere out there, enemies plotted their next move. Somewhere out there, danger waited. But inside, something had shifted. Romeo moved behind her, his presence steady, his warmth wrapping around her like armor. "You're thinking too loud", he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face. She turned slightly, meeting his gaze in the reflection. "I'm thinking about what comes next. About how many battles we've already fought. How many more we'll have to". Romeo's jaw clenched, but there was no hesitation in his voice. "Then we fight them. Together. Until the end". Her heart tightened at the certainty in his tone. Once, those words would have terrified her - until the end had al

Hope was fragile. Jessica knew that better than anyone. It could slip through your fingers in an instant, leaving you clutching at nothing but air. Yet as she looked across at Romeo, the silence between them wasn't heavy anymore - it was alive, humming with the weight of all that had been broken, and all that might still be repaired.Romeo shifted, his dark eyes fixed on her with an intensity that almost unnerved her. "Jessica", he began slowly, "you know things won't get easier. People won't just forget. The choices we've made... they're not going away".Jessica exhaled, her chest tightening. He was right. Their lives weren't fairy tales they were messy, tangled, stitched together with mistakes and regrets. And yet, wasn't that what made them real?"I don't want easy", she whispered. "I just want honest. No more lies. No more pretending".Romeo's lips curved into the faintest of smiles. "Honesty", he repeated. "That's dangerous territory".

  • 365 Days With My Fake Husband    The Weight of Tomorrow

The silence stretched between them, soft and full, like a thread neither dared to cut. Jessica leaned her head against Romeo's shoulder, feeling the slow rise and fall of his chest. For so long, the future had been a shadow-something to run from, something that pressed down with fear. But now, for the first time, it felt like something they could shape together. Romeo tightened his arm around her, as if sensed the same fragile shift. "Jess", he murmured, his voice low, roughened by all the things left unsaid, "do you ever think about what comes next?" She hesitated. "Every day". Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt. "But before, it was just.... survival. Now, i don't know. Maybe it could be more". Romeo titled his head, studying her. The flicker of determination in his eyes was undeniable. "More means risk. More means we stop hiding. Are you ready for that?" Jessica swallowed hard. Ready. The word felt dangerous

The silence that followed defeaning. Jessica could hear her own heartbeat, each thud echoing like a countdown. She tightened her grip on Romeo's hand, as if letting go might mean losing everything they had fought for.Romeo didn't flinch. His eyes stayed locked on hers, steady, unwavering. "They think we're weak", he said finally, his voice low and rough. "They think we'll break".Jessica's lips trembled, but she forced herself to meet his gaze. "Then let's show them we're not".The words tasted like fire on her tongue. For too long, she had been running from shadows from fears, from scars she thought would never heal. But now standing here, with Romeo's warmth grounding her she realized something had shifted. The fear was still there, but it no longer ruled her.Romeo brushed his thumb across the back of her hand, gentle, almost tender, before his tone hardened again. "This isn't about revenge anymore. It's about survival. It's about us".

  • 365 Days With My Fake Husband    Fractured Loyalities

The morning sun crept through the blinds, thin silvers of gold cutting across the darkened apartment. Jessica stirred awake, her body still heavy from the storm of emotions the night before. For a brief, fragile moment, it almost felt normal her head on Romeo's chest, his steady heartbeat grounding her in ways nothing else could. But normal didn't exist for them anymore. Romeo was already awake, his arm draped around her protectively, but his eyes were fixed on the ceiling, distant, calculating. She knew that look too well it was the face he wore when he was already at war in his mind, playing out battles she couldn't yet see. "You're not here", she whispered softly. His gaze shifted down to her, as if pulled back from someone far away. A faint smile tugged at his lips, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I'm always here with you, Jess. But we can't pretend the world outside stopped because we had one good night"
