Declan’s POV

The silence in the penthouse was suffocating. My father stood in the middle of the living room like he owned it, his expensive suit perfectly pressed, his posture rigid with the same unyielding authority he’d carried my entire life. Soraya stood beside me, her hand still loosely linked with mine, but I could feel her trembling. The weight of the mean words he had said to her still hung in the air like smoke after a fire.

I squeezed her hand once, then gently let go.

    ~~~Soraya~~~The walk to the sponsor’s office felt like a gauntlet. Every step across campus drew more eyes. Students clustered in groups, whispering behind their hands. Some didn’t even bother hiding it. I kept my head down, hood up, earbuds in even though no music played. The cold wind bit at my cheeks, but it was nothing compared to the burn of humiliation crawling up my neckFaint whispers in the hallway, that wasn't too faint for me to hear.“...heard Declan left for Australia...” one of the Junior girls said.Another one laughed. “...she was just using him for the money anyways...”“...poor girl, got dumped right after Declan used her...”The fragments of conversation followed me like shadows. I clutched the strap of my bag tighter, forcing myself to keep walking. Maya had offered to come with me, but I had told her no. This was something I needed to face alone. Or at least, that’s what I had convinced myself, maybe I should have just let her come with me.By the time I reached
    ~~~Soraya~~~The penthouse was too quiet, so quiet. Everything still felt unreal, it happened so fast. I picked up my phone and the message from Declan was still open, the words burning into my retinas as I read it over and over. Maya had left an hour ago after making sure I ate something and promising to come back in the evening. She had hugged me tight before she left, whispering that we would figure this out.But how? Declan was gone.The contract was broken.The sponsors had made it clear, the deal was terminated. The debt relief was clawed back. My family’s medical bills were once again our problem. And the boy I let my guard down for, the one I let myself fall for, has chosen to walk away without a proper goodbye.I pulled my knees to my chest, Declan’s oversized hoodie still wrapped around me. It smelled like him. Ice and cologne and the faint trace of the detergent he used. I buried my face in the fabric and let the tears come again. They were quieter this time. Exhaustion had

    ~~~Soraya~~~My sleep was interrupted by my phone ringing so loud, Maya was on the other end of the couch still sleeping. We literally passed out on the couch.My phone kept ringing continuously, I lazily stood up and walked to the table to pick it up.I didn’t recognize the number, but something in my gut told me to just answer.“Hello?”“Miss Rivera?” The voice on the other end was crisp, professional, and void of emotion. I recognized it instantly, it was Victoria Zhang, the head sponsor representative.“We need you to come to the office immediately. There’s been a development regarding your arrangement with Mr. Shaw.”My heart stuttered. “What kind of development?”There was a pause. “He delivered divorced papers, stamped and signed. We need you here to discuss the termination of the contract and the return of all sponsorship funds.”The world tilted around, it was as if my heart stopped pumping blood for a moment and was now pumping air rather.I gripped the phone tighter, my kn
    ~~~Soraya~~~The penthouse felt too big. I paced the living room in slow circles, my bare feet silent on the cool marble floor. The city lights twinkled far below the windows, indifferent to the storm raging inside me. My phone was clutched tightly in my hand, the screen already dim from how many times I had checked it. I dialed Declan’s number again.It rang. Once.Twice.Three times.Then it went to voicemail. The same generic message I had heard four times already tonight.“Hey, it’s Declan. Leave a message.”I hung up without speaking. My thumb hovered over the screen, debating whether to try one more time. The text from the unknown number still burned in my mind.“Declan just boarded a flight. He’s gone to Australia. I guess he choose his future over a temporary fake marriage. Good luck explaining that to everyone.”I wanted to believe it was a lie. Another cruel game from whoever was still pulling strings behind the scenes.But the silence from Declan made doubt creep in like co

    ~~~Soraya~~~Declan had gone to see his Father and I was back on the ice.The rink felt both familiar and foreign when I stepped onto the ice. My skates cut through the fresh layer with a satisfying scrape, the cold air biting at my cheeks. It had been days since I’d been allowed to practice with the team, and every stride felt like reclaiming a piece of myself. The Storm logo on my jersey felt heavier today, a reminder of everything I had fought for and everything I was still fighting for. Maya was already on the ice, skating lazy warm up laps. When she saw me, her face lit up with a grin that I hadn’t seen in what felt like forever. She skated over quickly, pulling me into a tight hug that nearly knocked me off balance.“There you are,” she said, squeezing me hard.“I missed you out here. The ice hasn’t been the same without my favorite troublemaker.”I hugged her back, laughing softly. “I missed you too. Feels like it’s been months, not days.”She pulled back, holding me at arm’s
    Soraya’s POVI stood by the windows, staring out at the city below, my arms wrapped tightly around myself. Declan’s father’s words still echoed in my head, sharp, cutting, impossible to ignore. The way he had looked at me like I was nothing more than a gold digger who had trapped his son. The way he had demanded Declan choose between his future and me. I heard Declan’s footsteps behind me, slow and deliberate. He stopped a few feet away, giving me space but not leaving me alone. That was something I was starting to appreciate about him, he knew when to push and when to wait.“Soraya,” he said softly.I turned to face him.He looked exhausted, the weight of the morning pressing down on his shoulders, but his eyes were steady. Determined.He stepped closer, slow enough that I could have moved away if I wanted to.I didn’t.“I meant what I said,” he continued, voice low. “I’m not letting you go. Not because of my dad. Not because of the contract. Not because of any of it.”I searched hi
