Blood kept flowing nonstop. Jessie Ford hurriedly pulled out a pack of tissues and rushed toward me. She wiped the blood while frowning and said, “Why didn’t you avoid it? Does it hurt? I didn’t do it on purpose. I panicked. Shane Harvey is young and talented. I hate to see talent wasted. Be good, just let it go.”

I pushed her hand away with a firm expression. “That is my dad we are talking about.”

“Alright, your dad loves money. If you really care about him, just accept the money and end this.”

My expression darkened. I was about to speak when her phone rang.

“Ms. Ford, where are you? They have been questioning me for so long and will not let me eat. I am so hungry that I feel dizzy. I cannot even stand.”

Jessie accidentally pressed the speaker button, and Shane’s aggrieved voice filled the air.

She tightened her grip on her phone, looking worried. “Wait for me. I will go back right now.”

After hanging up, she looked at me again with a serious expression. “Liam Charleton, I am giving you one last chance. Are you going to sign this settlement agreement or not?”

When I refused, Jessie turned and left without looking back.

I had watched her walk away countless times over the years.

It had not always been like this.

After graduation, I worked at the Ford family’s company, and Jessie was my first apprentice.

Back then, no one in the company knew her true identity, including me.

She was inexperienced yet energetic, passionate, and driven, but she often made mistakes. I always had to clean up after her. At a party, she had a few drinks and kissed me without warning. “Liam, I like you. I do not want to be only your apprentice. I want to be your girlfriend, and even your wife.”

The smell of alcohol on her breath made my head spin. I agreed in a daze.

By the time I learned who she really was, it was too late to walk away.

Jessie loved me, and everyone could see it. She replaced all the employees on her floor with women for my sake. She remembered every date related to me, including my family’s birthdays. She noticed anything I liked and secretly bought it for me, even if I only glanced at it once.

People mocked her for being a powerful CEO who let a man control her, but she never cared.

Unexpectedly, in the fifth year of our marriage, Jessie told me she wanted an open marriage.

She was not asking. She was announcing it.

Shane, the man who hit my father, was her 44th lover during our marriage.

When Jessie saw the signed divorce agreement, she became furious at once. She remembered the circumstances under which she had signed it. She rushed to my house and shouted, “I will not agree to a divorce. Liam, only you can be my husband. I will not allow you to fall in love with another woman.”I ignored her anger and called the neighborhood security guards to remove her.I knew Jessie would never let go easily. Otherwise, I would not have suffered for so many years.I handed all the folders I prepared to my lawyer and asked him to handle the entire divorce case.Jessie committed adultery forty‑four times during our marriage. Every man in the photos believed he was the only one. When she received the lawsuit, Jessie called me using my former assistant’s phone. “Honey, I fired Shane. The vice president position is still yours. Will you come back? Let us not divorce. Let us live happily together.”I refused, irritated. The next moment, she added in a threatening tone, “Liam, eve

My opinion did not matter. I blocked him as well.Jessie and I had been married for years, and I knew every expression she made. With one glance, I could tell she was impatient when Shane suggested taking those photos. They traveled with a mutual friend. She told me Jessie boarded the plane with a grim expression. Throughout the flight, Jessie ignored everything Shane said. She only checked every contact method linked to me and tried each one. The result was clear. I had deleted or blocked every account connected to her.By coincidence, a passerby filmed the scene of me and Jane building a snowman outside the hospital and posted it online.Jessie could not reach me, so everything felt meaningless to her. She lay on a chair, powerless and agitated. She happened to see the viral video. The video began with only a back view, yet she sat up straight at once.It was short, but she watched it again and again for half an hour. Then she suddenly laughed. It was not joy. It was jealousy

I waited at home for a week before I finally received a message from Shane. It was a photo, and the handwriting and signature on it were Jessie's.Not long after, he sent the papers to the address I gave him. When I picked them up, I passed a well‑known cake shop. I bought a cake and carried it home. The moment I turned the key, the door opened from the inside. The woman in front of me jumped into my arms and clung to me like a koala.I held her helplessly and closed the door with my foot. “Jane, you are not wearing slippers again.”She blinked and smiled, holding up three fingers. “Next time. I will remember next time.”The day I first met Jane, heavy rain poured outside.I had gone to the public hospital to change my dressing, and there was a commotion in the crowd. Someone seemed to be arguing. The doctor who treated me sighed. “She is such a devoted girl. It is a pity her parents are so heartless.”“Do not say that. The old lady does not have much time left.”When I fini

His words stopped when Jessie appeared. His flushed face looked as if he had suffered a great injustice on my behalf.“Honey, why did you leave the hospital so soon? Do not worry about work. Shane is helping me.” Jessie reached for my hand as if nothing was wrong.I scoffed and pulled away. “Why can I not come? If I had not come today, I would not have known you already pushed me out.”She forced an awkward smile and pulled me into the office. “Shane wants experience. Let him try. He is still new. You are older, so you should guide him.”The office door opened, and I finally saw what had been done. Everything I had designed had been torn apart and rebuilt. The new style was everything I disliked and everything Shane loved. A row of expensive figurines lined the shelf near the desk. The plants I had cared for were gone.“Where are my plants?” I asked, my voice sharp.Jessie clung to my arm. “Shane said the plants were competing with him for oxygen. The washroom is better for the

I rolled over weakly and lay flat on the bed. I stared into the empty space above me and remained lost in thought for a long time.A fair arm suddenly reached out in front of my eyes. “Does it hurt here?”I turned my head to avoid her touch. “Why did you say yes?”She looked shocked. “What?”I did not answer. I only stared at her.“Oh, you mean this? I have no money. I need money.” She smiled as if it meant nothing.I lowered my voice and sat up, ready to leave the messy bed.“Yesterday was my first time,” she said suddenly.“My grandma is very sick, but my parents do not want to continue her treatment. My grandma raised me. Anyone else can abandon her, but I cannot.” Her voice trembled, and I froze.I thought of the torn posthumous painting again. My grandma had raised me too, and everything about her mattered to me.I lowered my gaze. “Give me your phone.”“Are you adding my contact information?” She handed it to me with unexpected excitement. Her phone background showed

I could not stop shivering as I clenched my fists. “You drugged me?”Jessie let out a soft sigh. “It was only to lighten the mood. It is harmless. I asked. Shane uses it often, and he is fine. He said your emotional state comes from unmet needs and an imbalanced endocrine system.”I stared at Jessie in disbelief. “You really did not care about my feelings at all? You could stay calm even if I slept beside another woman?”I searched her face for any sign of guilt.Jessie placed her hand on my chest with a gentle smile. Her gaze held intense affection, which felt painfully ironic. “It is fine, Honey. I told you we have an open marriage. We are only fooling around. As long as we understand each other and love each other the most, we will return to our family.”Jessie had grown up abroad. I knew she was open‑minded, yet I never expected her to twist things this far. That talk about an open marriage was nothing more than an excuse for her to be unfaithful. She wanted to drag me down w
