I walked down the narrow road until I was far away from Demon's house... that's when I started seeing buildings.

Same old buildings, but different ones. L'Impasse des Ombres was really a big neighborhood because the buildings I was seeing were different from the ones I saw when I first arrived.

It just depends on the paths you take. But all the roads were narrow.

𝘼𝘽𝘽𝙄𝙀Ruby had always been like this... warm, friendly and welcoming. She never cared about age differences or social status. If you were around her long enough, she'd eventually become your friend.I stood up. I wanted to greet Manon too, but I stayed quiet, letting them finish their excited chatter first."Wanna get your hair done?" Ruby asked.Manon nodded eagerly. One of the girls beside her started speaking rapidly in French. Ruby answered back in French, and soon they were all laughing together.I felt like the fifth wheel."Anyways…" Ruby suddenly said, leaning her head against my shoulder affectionately. "This is my niece, Abbie. She's from California."Manon stared at me. "You were the foreigner from last night?" she asked slowly. "The one who lives with Bloodbath?""Bloodbath," one of the girls gasped dramatically. She had chestnut-colored wavy hair that framed her pale face beautifully. She leaned closer to Manon and whispered something quickly in French.Manon nodded

𝘼𝘽𝘽𝙄𝙀I didn't know when sleep finally claimed me, but when I woke up, the pale sunlight spilling through the window told me it was already 11:54 a.m.I stretched my stiff body lazily, my muscles protesting as if they had fought a war in my sleep. A long sigh escaped me before I slowly climbed down from the bed.Well… I survived the night. No cobra sneaked into my room to bite me. That alone felt like a miracle.A yawn slipped from my lips as I dragged my feet toward the forty-five-day calendar taped crookedly on the wall. The paper fluttered slightly from the weak breeze coming through the window.I picked up the pen beside it and ticked off number one. Then I nodded to myself.Forty-four days left.Just forty-four more days.Staying in a house with a cobra and a demon definitely wasn't part of the life plan I had imagined… but I would survive it. I had to. I would live every single day the best I could, before Mom crawled back into my life like the nightmare she was.At least

𝘼𝘽𝘽𝙄𝙀I trembled beneath his suffocating gaze, my back pressed against the rough wall as if it could somehow swallow me and hide me from him. My heart pounded violently against my ribs. I didn’t know what to say to him.I mean… why would someone like him even care that I ran away from his house?"Let's go home," he said.It didn't sound like a plea. It sounded like an order."Home?" I echoed weakly, my voice trembling despite my effort to steady it.Home? He wants me to go back to that house… that terrifying place where a cobra lives with him?He didn't answer. Instead, he released my chin and turned. He began walking away as if the matter was already settled.I didn't move.My back remained pressed against the worn-out wall where he had pinned me moments ago. He took five steps… then suddenly stopped and turned. Those obsidian-cold eyes locked into me again, sharp and merciless, as if they could rip straight through my skin."If I don't see you in front of me in the next second,

But all the roads were narrow.I came across a place where bread was sold. It was a small bakery, but the warm scent of freshly baked bread drifted through the air, wrapping around me like a comforting hug.I hadn't eaten all day, and I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't hungry. Who wouldn't be hungry? I arrived in Paris in the morning, and it's already 8PM, and yet I haven't eaten anything... not even a cup of water.I walked toward the wide window. A woman wearing a pink apron was arranging loaves of bread for display."Hi. I want some bread," I said politely. But she only gave me an awkward look before continuing her work.Didn't she hear me?"Ca

𝘼𝘽𝘽𝙄𝙀I jolted awake from the darkness of unconsciousness as if an angel had tapped my shoulder and whispered that it wasn't yet my time to die. A loud gasp tore from my throat as I bolted upright on the floor, my lungs dragging in desperate air. Wait... I was still on the floor? My eyes widened in disbelief as the cold tiles pressed painfully against my palms. I was sure I had been unconscious for hours… yet that Demon had left me lying here like a discarded rag. I had fainted right in front of him. He didn't even bother to catch me... and yet, he couldn't spare the smallest shred of kindness to carry me to the bed. My lips parted in disbelief. I was one hundred percent sure I wasn't heavy. I was petite. Which meant he could have carried me if he wanted to. But he chose not to. A bitter scoff escaped my lips. He wasn't just a demon. He was a devil. A kangaroo. A madman. A complete lunatic. In short… a fool. Who leaves an unconscious girl lying on the cold

𝙇𝙊𝙂𝘼𝙉As my gaze lingered on her longer than I intended, Shadow slithered toward me, his massive body gliding silently across the floor. His forked tongue flicked in the air as he lifted his head. I raised Shadow, and he's just as cruel as I am. He never hesitates to bite anyone he doesn't recognize. Which is why it surprised me that he didn't sink his fangs into Papillon the moment he saw her. She loves to scream, right? Well… I would've loved to hear her scream if Shadow had bitten her. The thought almost made me smile. Watching the pain twist across her face would've been entertaining. I'm wicked. I know. You don't need to say it loudly. Then why did I help lift her luggage from that pothole? Sorry, ain't no way you're going to know why. Shadow flicked his tongue again as he gestured his head toward Papillon. "You don't know her," I muttered coldly. "Why didn't you bite her? Did I raise you to be nice?" Shadow's forked tongue flicked again as his head sw
