"Did you grasp the lesson?"
When Howard asked the question, all of the kids nodded. He explained the lesson to the children for more than thirty minutes. It was even more enjoyable than presenting business projects and proposals when he was still employed. He seemed to enjoy what he was doing.
"I hope you'll be our teacher forever."
When the boy in the background said something, his ears clapped. He smiled because he had never heard a compliment like this before when presenting in front of big bosses in various companies. He's finally demonstrated that a compliment from a child is more genuine. When they praise someone, they are not lying, and they are more grateful.
"Sure," he replied.
He saw Zannie frowning so he approached her.
"What can you say about my teaching skills?" he whispered. Zannie just averted her eyes and left again. Howard suddenly fell silent. At this time, why is Zannie acting like that?
"My advice is, you have to be good at speaking so that your crush Jacob will notice you. Okay?"
He didn't get an answer from Zannie, instead he received both slaps on his handsome face with sound effects so the children turned to them.
“What happened?” One of the students starts to wonder.
Howard and Zannie were looked at innocently by the children. They saw how Zannie slapped Howie and how much pain he was in.
"You're violent, huh?" he said as Zannie slapped him on both cheeks. He couldn't figure out why the girl reacted that way; his joke had no effect because he had only teased her in front of Jacob. Can he hold himself accountable? Zannie liked Jacob because of her actions when she was talking to that guy, he guessed.
"Nothing, she just killed the mosquito that landed on my cheek," he said, smiling as the boy replied.
***Zannie's day has been completely ruined. What she doesn't understand is why Howie is in the evacuation center as well. He didn't tell her, and from what she could tell, he was supposed to be resting in the barracks.
She walked to the barracks where she was staying. She left Howard at the center, where he was busy distributing relief supplies. Surprisingly, no one ordered Howard, so why is he playing the hero this time? Maybe Zannie had the wrong impression of Howard, and maybe Howard has a good heart as well.
'You're still annoying and disrespectful! How could you tease me like that in front of the children!'
To this day, she still can't get Howard's face out of his mind, the look she hates but on the other hand, she can't help but be impressed by him.
She didn't care if the road she was on was dark. She just kept walking until her wrist was grabbed. Speaking of Howard, he's back, and it appears that he intends to annoy her once more.
"Let me go!" commanded Zannie's sigh.
"I don't know how to get back; I have no choice but to come with you," Howard said hesitantly to the girl. He had previously hung onto the service van with his barracks companions to get to the evacuation center.
"Why don't you just keep applying like you did before?" Zannie asked, relieved. She knows she is persistent when dealing with other people, but her mood shifts when it comes to Howard.
'How do you describe this anomaly?’ She breathed heavily, but no words came out of her mouth.'
"You're really stupid!"
She returned her gaze to Howard. She walked ahead of it. She will stay ahead of the young man as long as it is important, and she will not speak to him. Her shoelace had been removed, but she didn't care; she just walked. She sped up her walk until she stepped on a shoelace, causing her to stumble and sink into the rocky cement of the road.
"What happened?" Howie asked sarcastically. Knowing she had stumbled, he was able to ask her instead of just teasing her.
She looked up at Howard, who was stifling a laugh. He didn't even assist her in standing.
"It hurts," Zannie said, scratching her brow. She had a small wound from colliding with a small rock in their path. She was startled to discover that one of her toes was bleeding.
"So, who among us is truly stupid?"
Howard's remark caused her cheek to flush once more. She shook herself and attempted to stand, but she was unable to move her left ankle due to tripping.
But she didn't care. She pretended to be fine despite the fact that she was in pain and in tears.
On the walk, Howard noticed Zannie's heels. It persisted despite the fact that it clearly required assistance.
He followed Zannie, trembling. "Are you all right?"
Her only response to him was a sigh.
'How rude, I asked nicely and was scolded.'
Zannie continued walking. The faster she walks, however, the more her foot hurts. In her mind, she was repeatedly devastated. Not Howard, but Jacob should be the only one with her.
"Zannie—"
"What? I'm just fine!" she exclaimed to the young man. She turned her back on Howard and continued walking, but the pain seemed to be getting worse, so she came to a halt and registered the man's expression of severe pain on her face.
"Don't touch me!" she yelled at Howard as he approached and supported her. She raised her eyes to the sky. It was dark, and walking was dangerous because there could be dangers lurking around."Look, I'm trying to help you, not bother you," Howard growled back at Zannie.
Zannie, on the other hand, was taken aback when Howard lifted her like a sack of rice.
She screamed in surprise. "Take me down! Take me down!"
Howard appeared deaf to the girl's screams. "I'll take you down only when you're calm."
"All right, take me down," Zannie said calmly, and Howard finally put her down.
"All right, I'm sorry," she muttered. She no longer has a positive attitude and needs to relax.
"Keep this in mind, Zannie. I'm not going to ruin my good reputation with someone like you. Do you think you're beautiful? Do you think you can do everything? I pity you."
Howards' remarks rendered her immobile. Those words jolted her back to the present.
Zannie walked slowly into the living room. Howard offered her a piggyback ride because she could no longer when she stumbled because of her shoelace earlier. But on the other hand, she is still annoyed with Howard for saying that she's not pretty enough to show a stern attitude, and even said that she won't ruin the reputation that is best kept just for him. That had an impact and it was like a broken plaque repeated in her mind. The wind blew her away and she looked in the mirror. She slapped both cheeks for thinking such things. She couldn’t fathom the impact of Howard's presence and his sudden mood change. It turns out that the scent of him also lingered on her clothes because he had been on a piggyback ride before. ‘This is strange for me. Why am I feeling something that makes me thrilled?’Why so? Does she feel the thrill that she should just have only for Jacob? That thought made her lose concentration. Damn, that man is invading her whole system. Until now, she admitted she qu
Zannie and her fellow volunteers overcame the busyness of the soldiers in the training camp. Her eyes immediately searched for Jacob and her superior to turnover first aid kits and food supplies that the soldiers would need at any time. There is no alarming scenario yet. She also prayed that the opponents would not threaten again and destroy the town."Is there no one to assist us here? Where is the head of operations?"Zannie's thoughts vanished like a bubble because of Howard's question. She noticed that everything seems new to Howard based on his gaze while wandering around. Zannie can't get if Howard is just clueless or acting ignorant."You didn't see anyone to meet us, so obviously, there's nothing." Here she is with her demeanor. It looks like the petty quarrel is starting again. He couldn't say Zannie could be allergic to handsome guys because when it comes to Jacob, she looks like a gentle kitten and she only gives that man her smile, but when it comes to him, Zannie's mood q
"Come on guys! Let's have dinner together. It's such a tiring day. Let's call it a wrap."Quickly, Howard approached Lucille's place to have dinner. Earlier his stomach was churning due to hunger. Normally, he can't allow himself to feel hungry even if he's working in his office. The few boxes of rice he carried to the soldiers' camp were really exhausting to him. Honestly, he was pressured as Zannie was consistently nagging him. Clueless, he glanced at the girl and guided himself closer to her."Do you have a problem?" he asked in a whisper."Courage, you'll just eat and you won't even help even if I told you to." Annoyance registers on her beautiful face. Howard also heard a hissing sound from her.Their eyes met once again. She dared not to look at Howard's attractive eyes but it seemed like someone on her inner side was begging her to look at Howard for a long time—even about five more seconds. All she knew was that she had been grabbing rice from the big pot before as she was bu
It seems that Zannie will not be put to sleep by the loud giggles of her peers because of their conversation outside the barracks. She knew right away that the female volunteers were just happy because Howard was there. She covered her ears with a pillow but the voices of the people outside could still be heard.“They're so shallow for relying their mood on a handsome man that they're talking to,” she bemoaned and switched her position while still laying down on the bed.A few minutes later, she overheard another word from her colleague outside. “We really can't imagine a handsome man like you, going to this place and volunteering. Tell me more about you.”She hissed upon hearing that.Alodia said that to Howad, one of the younger volunteers who always had a crush on handsome rescuers and soldiers in Trias. Then, she seemed to have an urge to listen to their conversation. After all, she couldn't sleep because of their noises. She guided herself to the wall to better hear the conversa
“Are you sure that you're going to wait over there until the rain stops? You might catch a cold,” Lucille said, loud enough for Howard to hear on the other side of the place.“Yes, I'm sure,” Howard responded.“Okay, after this, we're heading to our corresponding barracks. How about you? Do you have a place to sleep?” Joel asked.Howard responded with a quick nod. Three minutes had passed, and the rain had already stopped. Howard decided to go to Zannie's barracks as he was fully aware that she was not asleep.“Hey, it's me,” Howard softly said while he was standing in the front door area.Zannie scratched her head as she heard that annoying voice. She had nothing to do but stand up and open the mini door for him.Her tone was full of annoyance. "Why are you here? Why can't you just stay with other acquaintances?"“Well, I saw you peeking through your window earlier. I know you weren't asleep yet. And I know that you are going to welcome me here,” Howard confidently replied, but he lo
They also spent an hour going to the said camp. They found the medical team there busy. Howie, on the other hand, unloaded food supplies and first aid kits needed by the soldiers. "Is that complete, Sir?"Zannie couldn't help but hear the female nurse's voice that seemed immediately attracted to Howard. She’s a woman too, and for Zannie, she knows if a woman like her wants to convey something, especially when a fellow woman likes her like someone.‘You are obvious too. How could you be able to flirt here while doing your job?’She could not understand why she was affected by such a scenario. She remembers being secretly territorial to Jacob. But that was before. She felt that every person who came after Howard should be investigated for no reason.Zannie examined the location of the young man. Unwillingly, she observed Howard's interaction with the female nurse, which seemed to have an effect on her. To be fair, that nurse was stunning and looked sexy even though she was dressed in a
Howard and Zannie walked quietly to their barracks. Zannie's secret smile still hasn't disappeared and she has no intention of speaking, neither does Howard. Until Howard couldn't hold back anymore and sighed before speaking."Zannie?"Calling the girl's name was enough to get her attention."Why? What's the problem?""Did you follow me because you didn't trust me? Were you afraid I'd be arrogant in front of Ms. Aida while teaching the kids?" Howard inquired softly.Zannie shook her head and nodded timidly. "I know your demeanor; I just thought you got short tempered on the youngsters.""I can't be angry with the kids, especially in this situation where they're also losing hope," Howard admitted to Zannie. "Did you find that surprising?""Yes, I'm just surprised; you weren't like that before, and I didn't think you'd change," Zannie responded.Howard didn't say anything, instead continuing to walk with Zannie, and they were only interrupted when they saw a child on the side of the roc
To avoid the disgusting view, Zannie immediately sought out Jacob in the camp. The annoyance caused by Howard was immediately forgotten when she saw Jacob nearby..She felt giddy today. She tied her loose hair tightly just to make her look comfortable in Jacob's eyes."Zannie..."She automatically smiled at Jacob's approach. How are you?" At the same time his question was a slight sulk in her voice. Because of Jacob’s failure to speak about being a perfect soldier. "I'm fine, Zannie. And I know you are too." The young man's smile was wider than she was flaunting. "Is that all that you are going to say?" Zannie asked once again without any hint of enthusiasm in her voice. It seems that Jacob has no plans to open his career plans or maybe that was a part of the protocol as an aspiring soldier. She felt betrayed at the same time. He was her best friend, and it was frustrating to realize that Jacob preferred to keep his mouth shut."Of course." Jacob raised an eyebrow obviously, curiou
