He's doing the role of a Beta and a Commander. He doesn't take their shit. He doesn't let any of those men walk all over him. He's putting these men on their asses and even some in the hospital. He pushes them on the training field like no one ever has. He has done more work in the office than two of my men could do!Adrian's amazing! I'm so happy for Alaric, and this pack. He's a blessing to all of us.” Lennox said, then took a sip of his wine. I smiled as I swirled my glass. I love listening to him praise our son's mate. I love seeing how happy he is. I saw the change in Lennox within days of Adrian stepping into the position. He was happier and stronger. His worried lines began to fade, and the tired look that took residence on his face disappeared…He tried to pretend he liked my asparagus and managed to eat an entire piece, which is a huge feat for him. He looked beyond relieved when I sighed, reached over, and took the rest of the asparagus from his plate. “Thank you, baby,” h
Wren's POVThe Alpha spoke fast as he suddenly lifted me out of bed and ran through the packhouse carrying me. There was a rush of people racing through the packhouse. As scared of them as I was, I was more terrified of the words flying out of the Alpha's mouth. I didn't catch everything; he was talking so fast. But I could see the panic in his eyes that he tried to hide, and hear it in his voice. It made the words I did catch that much scarier: “Don't worry, everything will be okay, under attack, shelter, you'll be safe there, no one will hurt you, I won't let them.” Everyone rushed into the basement and split up; half ran to one side, and the others to the other. A large steel door against the West wall was pulled open, one that didn't look like a door until they began to open it. It made a loud metallic grinding sound that echoed through the room as it was pulled open. A few seconds later, I could hear an identical sound from the opposite side of the basement. Everyone who could
The end of the book is near. There are only a few chapters left, maybe three or four. If you have any requests, let me know. There are a few things that will be left unfinished on purpose, like Sean and Arthur. I purposely stayed away from their relationship because I intended it to be in the next book. The next book will revolve around Andre, Arthur, Sean, Weston, Skylar, and Paxton, along with a few new characters. I wasn't planning on writing anything else after completing A Beta's Heart and The Darkness Within. But now that I'm near the end of this book, I can't imagine not exploring Sean and Arthur further, or not jumping into Andre's story to learn more about him and see where the story will take him. And Paxton… He's the most unique character I've ever created, and I only touched the surface of him in this book. I want to know more about him. I want to see where the next book will take him. I'm going to write one more book to see where these characters go, but that may be my
Third Person's POV Alaric gasped as he woke up. It took him a moment to determine what part of his dream was real and what was just a dream. He lifted his head as he pulled the sheet up to see if his leg was missing, like it was in his dream. His heart beat loud in his ear as he slowly inched the sheet up until it revealed two legs and two feet. He pushed out a loud breath as he dropped his head back against the pillow. “Fuck!” He cursed under his breath as he rubbed his face. He froze when he remembered another part of his dream. Adrian. In his dream, he was dead. Aldrich smiled evilly at him as he held his Beta's severed head.Alaric shot upright and looked around the room. His heart stilled when his eyes landed on Adrian's sleeping face. He looks peaceful as he sleeps leaning back against the chair. His Beta surprisingly doesn't have any significant injuries. Aside from a few bruises, scrapes, and cuts, he looks perfectly fine. “Adrian,” Alaric calls out. He didn't want to wake
Third Person's POV The doctor worked as fast as he could, but the damage to the Beta's abdomen was extensive. He was bleeding out faster than they could replenish his blood. For each vessel closed, there were a dozen more. That stress wasn't even considering that his perforated bowels had contaminated his entire abdominal cavity, or that his spleen was torn in half and was the main reason he was bleeding out. The doctor knew he was fighting a losing battle, but he still gave it his all, working as fast as he could to stop the bleeding.Arthur could barely hear anything over his pounding heart and loud breaths. The only reason he knew Sean's heart was beating was that the machine was telling him it was, not because he could hear it. Because he couldn't. It was as silent as the bond that was nearly non-existent as he held Sean's hand. Those beautiful little tingles were no longer there. The only thing he felt was a cold clammy hand, and it scared Arthur like nothing ever had.The Beta'
Third Person's POV Weston waited until the King was on the other side of the field, then he set Skylar down, knelt, and took his face into his hands. “Are you okay?” the Delta 1 asked, his eyes scanning the Omega's face.“Yes.” The Omega breathes out. Weston signed as he dropped his forehead against Skylar. His warm breath fanned the Omega's face. Skylar's hands slide up Weston's chest until he reaches his neck, and his fingers find one of his dreadlocks. He begins playing with it the way he always does, and Weston smiles. Weston pulls back to look at the Omega, and he smiles again. “Little flower…You were amazing!” Weston said, caressing the Omega's cheek. A smile spread across Skylar's face, and his chest filled with warmth. His wolf preened at the compliment, and his heart soared at the endearing name. It's his favorite one. ~§~Lennox ignored the raging pain in his side and lower abdomen as he lifted his son into his arms. Alaric hissed as searing
