Lucy

My eyes fell on the folded piece of paper tucked neatly against the side of my door frame, barely held in place by the wind. My breath caught.

Not again.

With trembling hands, I reached for it, my fingers hesitating just before they made contact. I knew what it was. Beta Ethan’s threats had been growing bolder lately, more invasive. My heart pounded as I unfolded the note.

The first thing I saw when I opened it was the photo of my mother. She was lying in a hospital bed, her face pale, oxygen tubes clinging to her no nose. Beneath the photo were six words scribbled in thick red ink:

“You’re running out of time, Lucy.”

The note slipped from my fingers and fluttered to the floor.

I swore softly under my breath and leaned against the wall, feeling like the ground beneath me had tilted. What the hell was I supposed to do? Who could I tell? The Alpha? No—especially not him. My entire existence here was based on a contract, nothing else. And I was dead sure he wouldn't believe me over

Aurora.I was running as fast as I could. My feet hit the ground hard with every step, and my heart was pounding wildly. My cloak flapped behind me, catching on branches, but I didn’t dare stop. Not even to catch my breath.I was gripping the pack lock tightly in my hand. The cold metal was pressing into my palm like it was trying to brand itself there. The papers I had stolen were hidden inside my coat, rustling with each movement. I hadn’t stopped to read them again, but I already knew what was in them, solid proof that Ivy had betrayed us. She was planning to tear apart the pack from the inside, all while pretending nothing was happening. You’d think I’d feel proud. Like I’d finally done something right, something to protect my people. But instead of relief, I just felt this horrible ache in my stomach. And it wasn’t just from guilt. It was real, physical pain. Sharp, twisting pain, like something inside me was tearing apart.I reached the edge of a small town, one I barely remembe

Lucy.I woke up to that damn bell again. It rang so loudly it felt like it was vibrating in my skull. Every single time, the same awful sound. Who was the maniac behind it? For a moment, I thought I could just ignore it. Just a few more minutes under this thin, scratchy blanket that barely did anything to keep me warm. But then I felt something cold.Water.Someone threw freezing cold water right onto my face and chest. I gasped and shot up, coughing and shivering. I slammed into the hard wall of the cell behind me. My head was still foggy from sleep, and everything was spinning. When my eyes finally focused, I saw them again.Riven. And her little gang.Of course.“What the hell?!” I snapped, scrambling to my feet. My joints ached from sleeping on solid concrete, but the shock had kicked my body into motion.Riven stood in the middle like she owned the place. Her sharp eyes were full of amusement, and her scarred lip twisted into a smug grin. The three usuals stood around her, the ta

Alpha Ellison.I walked back and forth on the cold marble floor outside the prison, my hands clenched into fists and my jaw tight with frustration. Once again, the guards had refused to let me see Lucy. This was the second time in just two days that I had come here, desperate to understand the mess she was in but the guards stood firm, repeating the same annoying words:"Orders from the top. No visitors allowed."Top? I’m the top.But not here, not in this messed-up world of politics, where the high ministers secretly control everything behind the scenes. I was running out of patience. My anger, which had been bubbling beneath the surface, was close to boiling over. I barely managed to hold it back.I turned away from the prison, my steps heavy with frustration. I knew I couldn’t force my way in. I needed another plan, a smarter one. That meant going back to my pack, gathering information, coming up with a strategy. I had to think, not react. But when I got back to my land, peace was

Lucy. The prison was a world unlike any other.I had believed I understood agony. I thought I’d experienced what it meant to suffer. But this place, it stripped me of that illusion. Here, all I had left was survival, raw and bare. It was only my second day inside these walls, yet it felt like I’d been here a lifetime already.Above me, the bell tolled, It marked the beginning of the day. Breakfast.I didn’t budge.I remained curled on the narrow, hard mattress, eyes fixated on the water-stained ceiling above me. A thick crack, jagged like a bolt of lightning, split the plaster across its center. I’d been watching it for hours, silently wishing it would grow wider and bring the whole ceiling down on me.But it didn’t.Instead, the noise from outside began to rise: the shuffle of feet, murmured voices as the other inmates made their way to the mess hall. I felt no hunger. Not the kind food could cure. What I wanted was simple, freedom. Why hasn’t he come?My father is a man of immense i

Lucy.I called again. Once. Twice. Then a third time.Still nothing. The only response was that same, sterile voice from the other end: “The number you are attempting to reach is currently not available. Please try again later.”A creeping chill snaked down my back like ice on skin. Something was off.My hands clutched the steering wheel, knuckles pale from pressure. My foot tapped anxiously against the floorboard. Ahead of me, the road unfurled in a lonely stretch, empty except for the soft remnants of dust trailing from where I’d driven up earlier. I’d come here searching for clarity. Instead, I’d been met with suffocating quiet. Then movement. Flickering shapes in the rearview mirror. One. Then another. And another.Wolves.My stomach dropped like a stone. They emerged from the forest edge, silent as phantoms, gray, black, brown pelts blending into the fading light. They crept forward, closing in, circling my vehicle with practiced precision. I didn’t recognize a single one. No sce

Lucy.I can’t pinpoint the exact instant I walked out of the hospital. Everything melted together, the harsh glow of overhead lights, the relentless hum of machines, the shallow rhythm of my father’s breathing. After the third failed resuscitation, something inside me fractured. I couldn’t watch them try again. Couldn’t bear the jolt of his body under the paddles or the silent defeat passed between nurses’ eyes like a secret they didn’t want to say out loud.I fled. The sound of my boots echoed sharply down the sterile hallway, my breath catching in my throat, tears gathering too thick and fast to release. Outside, the air hit me but it was nothing compared to the frozen pit forming in my core. The ride to my mother’s place passed in fragments. I couldn’t remember fastening my seatbelt. All I recalled was how hard I clutched the steering wheel, knuckles bleached white, screaming until my voice was shredded and the sobs swallowed the sound of the radio I never thought to shut off.I wa
