Celeste

“I thought you suddenly grew some backbone, you trash. Alas, you’re still as cowardly as a mouse.”

Tabitha’s taunts filled my head, but my gaze was fixed on the writhing middle-aged woman lying on the floor. Her blood formed a pool beneath her, and I could tell she was in excruciating pain.

“What did they do to you, Nanny Zelda?” The words flowed out of my lips like someone who had the authority to put these people in their place. Alas…

“Tsk! Playing savior now, huh? Take one more step, and I’ll snap her neck.” Luna Fiona’s words were just above a whisper, but I didn’t dare defy her. I couldn’t tell what they did to Nanny Zelda, but I wasn’t ready to put her life on the line because I wished to find out.

All Nanny Zelda wanted was for me to run away from this pack and never look back. In her words, “It was better to be a rogue than remain a punching bag in the Moon Howler Pack.” I never listened to her, and now she might die because of me. How could I live with myself after that?

I regretted it so much. I wish I had listened to her.

“I’ll go to the Iron Fang Pack, but Nanny Zelda must come with me,” I spoke as if I was negotiating with the Luna, but my eyes were pleading at the same time. I didn’t wish to leave the only family I had with these savages. They might just kill her at the least provocation.

“Celeste, my dearest,” Luna Fiona walked toward me, leaving Nanny Zelda to fall face-flat onto the ground. Even though it wasn’t too loud, I still heard her low whimper. She was really hurt, yet I still couldn’t tell what they did to her, nor could I be of any assistance.

With her left hand grabbing the back of my neck firmly, Luna Fiona’s right hand reached for my jaw. Her grip was so tight that any more force could cause it to snap.

“The only reason you’re not bleeding right now is because you need to be delivered intact. After all, you are the Alpha’s favorite daughter.”

I was finally freed from her grip, but she pushed me away as if she had just held something filthy. I didn’t know when Tabitha joined us, but they just couldn’t mock me enough.

While the two laughed like maniacs, I could only hold the places she just held, massaging gently to relieve the pain.

I didn’t even look toward the mother and daughter pair. My gaze was only fixed on Nanny Zelda.

“Tsk! I heard you say you wanted to take this wench away.” Tabitha taunted, as if asking would make it sound less ridiculous. I knew it was a difficult request, but it wasn’t impossible, after all.

Tabitha stepped on Nanny Zelda’s right leg with so much force that she let out a heart-wrenching scream in agony. Unsurprisingly, a cracking sound soon followed, and my nanny passed out. She was the closest person I had to a family, yet these two devils didn’t give a damn about hurting her.

“This is just a small injury, and we both know she would heal under the care of the pack physicians. However, she would remain here.”

Tabitha spoke with so much authority that I could tell she wasn’t speaking for herself. She was always cocky, but this was different.

“W… What do you mean?” My voice came out shaky, as my whole body trembled from pain and frustration. I felt so useless seeing Nanny Zelda passed out in a pool of her blood, yet I could only look away.

Luna Fiona also looked toward Tabitha with a probing gaze. “Mom, Dad wanted me to remind the bitch that he would keep this wench safe as long as she behaved herself in the Iron Fang Pack. After all, Nanny Zelda was part of her mother’s dowry, and Father couldn’t just let her go like that.”

How ridiculous! They wanted to control me with Nanny Zelda. Wasn’t it bad enough that I was going to the Iron Fang Pack as payment for the warriors Alpha Holmes murdered? He also wanted me to be his spy?

How ridiculous! Did he think I wouldn’t die fast enough, or did they take Alpha Horres for a fool? What sort of joke was this?

Celeste Holmes, could you be any more pathetic than this?

“I’d run along and pack up if I were you.” Luna Fiona didn’t even wait for me to say anything in response. It’s not like anything I said mattered, after all.

“I hope you’ll keep your word and let Nanny Zelda get treated by the physicians.” I couldn’t even look at the mother and daughter. The words I spoke were for whichever of them cared to take care of my nanny.

If I lingered any longer, she might just face a fate more difficult than what she was experiencing now.

For two days and two nights, we were on the move, only stopping to eat and sleep. Along the journey, I cried my eyes out in silence until my head began to pound like crazy. I couldn’t even stomach any food.

The fear of Nanny Zelda’s safety wasn’t less than my fate as a spy in the Iron Fang Pack. I was soon to be a spy Luna in a foreign land. I knew for a fact that my days in the pack wouldn’t be good; hence, I relished in the peace that I enjoyed along the journey. How the days ahead would be, I couldn’t tell.

I didn’t know when I fell asleep while clutching my head, but I was woken up by a bone-chilling coldness that seemed out of place. It wasn’t winter yet, so I shouldn’t have been feeling this way.

When I finally made sense of where I was, I noticed a small crowd gathered around me, and a man who looked so imposing and scary stood in the middle.

I wasn’t sure who he was, but I was almost a hundred percent certain that he was the alpha of Iron Fang Pack. His alpha aura wasn’t particularly hidden, after all.

“Tsk! Is this the peace offering Alpha Holmes exchanged with the heads of seven warriors? A wolfless trash like you?”

His voice was cold, and I could already feel the anger and scorn behind his words. Even the onlookers looked like they could tear me to shreds, if only the alpha commanded it.

It was at this point when I began to shiver from the cold that I realized something…

They doused me with cold water. Which alpha would humiliate his Luna like this?

A well-deserved welcome for a nobody, huh?

Celeste Holmes, didn’t you just jump from the frying pan to fire?

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   089: You came

KylieEver since the Holmes girl joined our pack, I realized my alpha changed in a lot of ways. His regular sickness didn’t flare up as often as it used to, he wasn’t as irritable as he used to be, and even the pack clinic became less frequented by our pack members. Madam Zorah didn’t even request more medicines for the pack clinic, as had been the norm.At a point, I began to wonder if the regular visitors at the pack clinic were cursed or if they were even poisoned. I didn’t understand why things became better all of a sudden. It was not until Celeste healed the pack members and the alpha did I understand why things changed. Celeste Holmes happened to the Iron Fang Pack, and healing followed for our members. I wasn’t certain whether the alpha could make these deductions upon waking up, but I know I wasn’t wrong. I could only hope everyone would accept the value Celeste Holmes brought to this pack. My alpha went in for his worst enemy but ended up with a healer. Tsk! So the moon go

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   088: They're here

CelesteTonight, Alpha Holmes and his entourage were only a short distance from the Iron Fang Pack. It was an understatement for me to say I was petrified. He wanted something, and I was certain of that. The timing was just too perfect. The pack was attacked, with the alpha rendered incapacitated, and then Alpha Holmes chose this exact time for his so-called visit. Even an idiot couldn’t be fooled by this.As I stood at the entrance of the throne room, looking into the distance, the movements of everyone in the pack, as well as the tense atmosphere, added to my worry. I noticed the omegas running helter-skelter, a situation that vividly reminded me of how I used to serve in my own pack, just as they were doing in theirs. Back at the Moon Howler Pack, I did whatever menial jobs were allocated. What made my stepmother happiest was when she made me clean the pack's outhouse. I could work from dawn till dusk and still have places I was yet to clean. It could continue for days or even mon

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   087: Why Alpha Horres hates me so much

Celeste“My lady, what do we do?” Well, I… I… What do we do? “Alpa Holmes’ convoy will be here latest by tomorrow evening.” Wow! That’s quite close. I wanted the pack members to remain in the shelter for a bit longer, but I think this is enough. After all, everything has been cleared. Now, talk of the devil…“How many people are we expecting?” I finally asked Beta Kylie after a while of stifling silence. He seemed a bit surprised that I was concerned about the number of people coming instead of the alpha’s absence. “Twenty people. That’s what they communicated, but that’s a ploy to ensure we are caught off guard.” Hmmph! That old geezer thinks he’s smart, huh? Tsk! “The alphas always did that to throw others off track. It had always been the norm, but since our alpha didn’t visit anybody, we never had to bother about such issues. The others always did the visits.” What! An alpha who never visited a neighboring pack? Not even his allies have seen him at their doorstep, much less his e

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   086: Did he just move?

Celeste“Alpha Holmes is coming to visit.” The beta’s words rang in my mind a few times too many, but I couldn't get any other meaning from them than what they literally meant. It didn’t make any sense for him to leave his pack after so many years of being cooped up there, just to visit this one that he would give anything to get. What did he want with this pack now? Why would he be willing to risk it? Wait a minute… unless…“Why?” My voice was low, and Beta Kylie still hesitated a little, but I guess he finally gave up. After all, we both knew we were in this together. If anything were to go wrong, both of us would be in trouble. Most importantly, he knew I meant the Iron Fang Pack no harm. “Alpha Holmes is coming as a special envoy of the Alpha King, Brody. He needs to confirm that the alliance is going well.” When he said this, we both knew it was rubbish. The Alpha King’s envoy left this pack only a few days ago; now, a special envoy is coming again? “Well, he says he misses his

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   085: Alpha Holmes is coming for a visit

Celeste“Okay. I… I'll tell him.” I didn’t have any clue about how that topic would be breached, but I knew I had to tell the alpha one way or the other. “But… just don’t beat me to it. Please.” Beta Kylie locked gazes with me for a brief moment, and I could see the thousands of questions behind that one look. I felt a little awkward, but I knew he meant me no harm. At least, not at this moment. “Fine. Your food is here.” As soon as those words left his lips, Maita walked into the room with a huge tray of several dishes. I was quite surprised to see everything she brought. What caught my attention was the big plate of grapes on the wooden tray. Well, I guess a certain someone didn’t notice this spread; otherwise, I would have been declared a sinner for eating all this that was obviously meant for the alpha. “That spread belongs to the alpha.” I got the meaning behind his words, so I only nodded in understanding as I walked toward the dining table. I couldn’t tell what the beta said

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   084: Perplexed

Celeste“How is the alpha doing?” Beta Kylie enquired. It was a tough battle, and I felt at one point that we might lose him for good. Nothing seemed optimistic about his condition, but Lyra was sure he would pull through. Well, it was her belief that saved him. I might have been skeptical, but I was glad Lyra pushed me to do everything possible to revive him. I wouldn’t wish to think about the stress we went through to get here, because it looked like a dead end. In any case, Alpha Horres had already pulled through the most dangerous phase. Moreover, everything seemed worth it, as Lyra said this wouldn’t happen again. The toxins that invaded his body wouldn’t have any such effect on him if he were to get exposed to them again. Why I wasn’t affected after handling all the toxins in his body was another mystery to me. Lyra should have the best answer to that, and I definitely had plans of asking her about it. Much later, though.“Celeste… Is… Is he okay? Please say something.”

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   076: Lyra is back

CelesteIt had been a long while since I was woken up from my sleep. The walk from the Alpha’s chambers to the dungeon was quite a long one, if anyone bothered to ask me. I had to walk around like I was disabled or someone who had a deformity, just because I served the alpha last night. Again! And

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   003: Running away

Celeste“A… Alpha…”I was speechless, and try as I might, I couldn’t form a complete sentence. I could only call out to Alpha Holmes, hoping this was one big joke. Tell me this: if whatever was happening here wasn’t a joke, why would Tabitha stand beside him, and he would refer to me as his favorite

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   002: Peace offering

CelesteWatching the warriors fight so fiercely just reminded me of the Great War. At that time, all rival packs surprisingly came together to eradicate a common foe. Now, there was some semblance of peace, but we all knew it was temporary. Anything could distort the balance at any time. All packs

  • A Breeder for the Vindictive Alpha   001: May the best man win

HorresI stood in my study, waiting impatiently for the team to arrive. My second beta scrambled to sort out the messages delivered by the messenger ravens, but he still didn’t find what we wanted. Our major concern was the whereabouts of our delegation.I kept this meeting between the two of us bec
