Third Person's POV
“Ha,” Maverick chuckled and rubbed his fingers over his mouth, a sign he was trying not to laugh.
“What?”
“Oh, nothing.”
“Don't “nothing” me! What?” Coal said, his annoyance evident in his voice.
“It's just, are you sure you want to make that move?”
“Yes! What's wrong with it?” Coal said. The Beta scanned the chess board again, trying to figure out what he did wrong.
Maverick chuckled and shook his head.
“Just busting your chaps,” Maverick said. His smile fades as he scans the board. He rubs his fingers through his beard as he concentrates. His lips curl up on one side as he reaches forward.
“Check!” Maverick said, and Coal scoffed.
He moved his piece, and Maverick called check again.
Coal's frustration is palpable as he moves his piece.
“Run, Queen, run, I'm gonna get ya!” Maverick said before moving his piece and calling check again.
The guard sitting at his desk shifted in his seat. He was ready to duck, waiting for Coal to get angry and chuck the board down the aisle like he did last time. Getting hit in the head with chest pieces isn't exactly fun. The guard thought as he watched Coal make his next move.
A satisfied smile spread across Maverick's face. He reached his hand through the bars and made his final move.
“Checkmate!”
Coal glared at Maverick for a moment before growling and chucking the board down the aisle. The guard sitting at his desk quickly ducked down behind it as chess pieces rained down over his head.
“Seriously Coal! And you! Do you have to poke the beast!” Gary said angrily as he stood up and glared at Maverick and Coal.
“He cheated!” Coal exclaimed, pouting as he folded his arms across his chest. Maverick threw his head back laughing and almost fell out of his chair.
“You're such a sore loser!” Maverick said between laughter.
“And you're a pain in my ass!” Coal growled.
Maverick shook his head as his laughter died.
“So, what are you going to show me first? Are you going to take me on a walk through your little town or take me to the lake? I can't remember the last time I've been swimming,” Maverick said as he sat back in his chair.
“I don't know. It depends on if you're annoying me that day. If you are, then you can stay in your room!”
“Oh, threatening to ground me, huh?”
“It's not a threat, it's a promise!” Coal said before they both laughed.
“Do you think we'll still play chess? It'll be weird not having our chess games each week,” Maverick said, and Coal nodded.
“Yeah, I suppose it would be weird. I'm sure we can find time. Your wolf must be eager to shift and run free. I'm looking forward to meeting him,” Coal said, and Maverick shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
“He's fine. We never shifted that often to begin with. I shifted last night for him, and two minutes later, he shifted back. I doubt you'll see him that much.”
Coal hummed in acknowledgment as he picked up the board and chess pieces scattered throughout the aisle.
“Sorry about that,” Coal apologized to Gary when he handed him the pieces that landed around his desk.
The guard shook his head as he walked back to his desk and mumbled under his breath.
“All right, I guess I'll see you Sunday morning. Don't do anything stupid until then,” Coal said, giving Maverick a firm look that said he would kick his ass if he fucked up.
Maverick laughed as he crossed his cell and dropped down on his bed.
“Don't worry, I'll be on my best behavior,”
Maverick watched Coal leave, and when the door shut, he laid down, looked at the ceiling, and let out a breath.
“Leave me alone, Shade! I don't want to hear it.”
“Shade likes pretty little thing. Let's go find our pretty little thing.”
“No! Now knock it off and stop pestering me about it. It's not happening!”
Maverick groaned as the stupid idiot in his head continued to mumble about his pretty little thing. He pressed the pillow over his head and growled into it.
“SHUT UP!” Maverick yelled, and the guard looked down the aisle in his direction.
“Ignore me. Just arguing with my inner beast.” Maverick said as he rolled over and faced the wall. He closed his eyes and hoped to get some sleep. The idiot in his head was giving him a headache.

“Now, I'm trusting your judgment. You've spent the past two years getting to know him. Whatever this feeling is you have about him hasn't wavered. Because of that, his good behavior, and the fact that he's claimed he's only killed two pieces of shit Alphas, I approved his release.
You are responsible for him. I expect you to teach him our rules and figure out what he's good at so you can find him a job.
Our biggest problem will be the Omega and Delta 3s if they recognize him from the auction, as well as their mates. I wouldn't doubt it if at least one of those mates comes after him.
I've been weighing my options to try to prevent this from happening. I could bring their mates in, explain who he is, why he's being released, and warn everyone to leave him alone, or I could do nothing and hope no one recognizes him since he was a guard and not inside the building often.
If I talk to the mates, it will bring attention to him, but that may not happen if I don't talk to them. This may cause more people to come after him than if I don't say anything.
Because there's no sure way to tell how many people will recognize him, and because he was at the gate, I have decided not to talk to them and see how things play out. If too many people recognize him, I will call their mates in and have the talk then.
Your job is to assign the right guards to follow him and stand guard at his door. These guards must be able to look for and spot these problems before they happen. And when you're with him, you need to stay vigilant.
If anyone attacks him, he has the right to defend himself. Though if he severely hurts or kills one of them, things will take a drastic turn for him. He will automatically become the enemy, and it will no longer be just mates looking to take his head. He will either end up getting killed or chased out of here. I know you don't want either to happen, so I want you to keep a close eye on him,” Grayson explained.
Coal sat across from the Alpha in his office. His head nods as he takes in everything Grayson says.
“I understand. I will make sure I have a team of guards briefed about him and ready by Sunday,” Coal said.
“Very good. I'll be seeing you at dinner tonight, right?” Grayson asked as he closed his laptop, stood, and stretched.
“Yes. I already told Nathan, and he's excited. We’ll be at your place in two hours.” Coal smiled as he thought of his mate. He felt himself become excited at the thought of seeing his mate.
He said his goodbyes to the Alpha and quickly made his way up the stairs, taking them two at a time.

Third person's POV The soft rumble of a delicate Omega's purr was the most beautiful sound the Beta had ever heard. His warm body lies pressed against his. A permanent smile is etched on Brandon's face as his fingers trail lazy patterns on Leo's back. It takes the Beta back 2 weeks: The Omega's beautiful body still glistened with sweat, and he smelled of Brandon from head to toe. The Omega has never felt so happy and content. His body slightly ached, and he loved it. He feels so full—his mate's knot has locked him firmly in place, making sure none of his Beta's seed goes to waste. His beautiful light brown skin only had a hint of red remaining as the throes of his heat had temporarily subsided. His thirst for his Beta's knot is temporarily quenched, and he happily purrs as he nuzzles the underside of Brandon's chin, causing the Beta's heart to swell. He has only heard the Omega purr briefly here and there, but nothing like this. It's the most beautiful sound he's ever heard—the sou
Kyle's POV My parents were gone by the time we came out of my room. It was kind of nice to have the entire apartment alone. It made me realize that it's time to move out. Unlike higher ranks who move out as soon as they turn 18, Omegas tend to stay at home with their parents until they find a mate. Higher ranks desire and thrive being alone, but Omegas don't. It's lonely and depressing. We thrive with the company of others. We need that interaction and affection. Without it, we become depressed, our health declines, and we become weaker. The thought of moving out and living with Kevin sent a whole new wave of excitement through me. I couldn't stop talking as I moved throughout the kitchen, preparing our lunch. I was talking to Kevin about one thing, but my brain couldn't stop thinking about living with him. I began to wonder if this is what it'll feel like every day. Him sitting there at the counter watching me while I prepared our meals. That thought sent another wave of exciteme
Third Person's POV Azalea steps out of the bathroom, refreshed with clean panties. She finds Maverick lying on the bed with his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling. The familiar scent of smoke fills her nose the closer she gets to the bed. Her heart clenches, and she exhales when she sees fire burning in his eyes. She knew she could wave her hands in front of his face, and he wouldn't see them. Whatever he is thinking about, that's where he is, and all he sees. She sighs before crawling onto the bed and lying down on top of him. Her hand rested on his face, and his eyes rapidly blinked, pushing whatever he was thinking of out of his head and coming back to her. When his eyes land on her, he feels guilty. She looks sad and concerned. He couldn't help it. The gate is constantly calling to him, and when she's not there, it becomes louder and consuming. “I'm sorry, my little angel. I will tell you when the time is right,” He said softly, and his head lifted off the pillow a
Third Person's POV Azalea presses her lips into a thin line as she looks from her book and watches her mate. He's been different since he came back from Mike's pack. He seems distant and always lost in thought, just as he is now. The book he was reading rested in his lap as he stared out at the sky. She wishes she knew what he was thinking. Every time she asks, he tells her nothing and says he was just zoning out. She can tell it was a lie. The way he looks when he's staring off into space, she can tell he's deep in thought. The way his muscles twitch around his eyes, and the way, at times, she can see fire swirling in those eyes. She's even caught the faint scent of smoke rolling off of him once or twice. “Is everything okay?” Azalea asked when Maverick set his book down and stood. “Yes, I just need some air,” Maverick said, kissing her head and stepping onto the balcony. Maverick takes a deep breath in through his nose to clear his senses. He places his hand on the railing and
Third person's POV “Mine!” Kyle whispered through tears, and Kevin's heart soared. He had dreamed of this moment for over 16 years. When the Omega walked into his lab almost a week ago, he was struck by his beauty. His creamy pale skin was flawless, and his green eyes stood out against it. The way his dark chocolate hair had a slight curl and rested against his forehead made his light green eyes stand out even more. There was something about the Omega that drew him in. The more he got to know him, the harder he fell. He wasn't just a beautiful Omega. He was incredibly smart and intelligent. He had a smile that could light up the room, and the way he constantly blushed in his presence drove his wolf wild. He stumbled over his words so cutely and squirmed under his gaze. At first, Kevin thought it was simply an Omega reaction to his rank and position. He never thought this amazing little Omega who belonged to the royal family would ever be interested in him, but he was. The Delta 1 m
Kyle's POV My cheeks felt hot as I turned to look at Kevin, but I melted when I saw the smile on his face. His hand again touched my face, but this time, instead of watching his fingers, he watched me, as if looking for my reaction to his touch. His touch felt amazing, and I closed my eyes and leaned into it. “I don't know what to think. You kissed me. You took my first kiss, but then said you couldn't do this. I don't want to hurt you, but you're hurting me,” I said once the back door shut behind Lucian as he stepped inside to grab lemonade.I swore I heard Kevin's heart skip a beat when I spoke. I looked up, wanting to look at him to see if I could figure out which part of what I said had caused that. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell. His eyes rapidly moved across my face with a greater look of wonder.“I… Y-you've never kissed anyone before?” He asked, and I felt my cheeks become warm. Of everything I said, that is what he got stuck on and caused that reaction…I looked down and sho
Kyle's POV I could tell my parents wanted to know the extent of my assault but were afraid to ask, and I'm glad they didn't. I don't like to think about it, let alone talk about it. At times, I can still feel their disgusting hands on me, touching in places they shouldn't have. I can feel the rogue between my legs, and it makes my skin crawl. I woke up screaming last night and scared my dad. I hated seeing the sadness in his eyes and the look that told me he knew all too well what I was experiencing, and he did. They wanted me to take the day off, but I didn't want to. Work is therapeutic for me, and I love what I do. I didn't stop by his room this morning to walk into work together like we usually do. I wanted some time alone with my thoughts and hoped to finish some work before he showed up. I know it'll be hard for me to focus on anything but him once he does.I was nose-deep in work when the door opened, and Kevin walked in. I didn't lift my head right away, but when I did, I r
Kyle's POV I woke up to the sound of a TV quietly playing and fingers combing through my hair. Kevin's scent was strong, and I didn't smell the sterile scent of a hospital room any longer. I hummed as I nuzzled against him before opening my eyes to look at my surroundings. His hand moved to my back as I opened my eyes and looked around. When I did, I realized we weren't in the hospital room where I fell asleep; we were in his bedroom at the packhouse.I lifted my head to look at Kevin, and his hand moved to my cheek, caressing it as his eyes swept over my face. “You're finally awake,” He said softly, his eyes landing on mine and causing my heart to flutter before beating faster.I couldn't believe I was in his bedroom, in his bed, and in his arms. I wanted to pinch myself. It had to be a dream! “I-I am… how long have I been asleep?” I was confused. How did we get here? I can feel his broken arm against my back, and I don't feel the cast. When did it come off? Where's the swelling
Kyle's pov “Don't worry, his wolf is strong. He was already healing him by the time the other doctor and I began working on him after the x-rays. He lost a lot of blood, but by the time we were able to get blood into him, he only needed 1 liter. We were able to fix his arm. His wolf is quite impressive. While we were setting the bones, he was trying to heal them. He's in a cast. At the rate his wolf is healing, it should be able to come off tomorrow. He has stitches on both of his sides and his back. His body will probably push them out by tonight as he finishes healing. If there are any stitches remaining when he comes in to have his cast removed, we'll remove those, too. Don't worry; he'll be okay. For the wounds he sustained, he's doing great!” The doctor said before leading the Alpha away to talk to him privately. I didn't waste another second; I raced into the room and had to stop myself from leaping onto the bed with him. My chest tightened when I saw Kevin lying in a hospit
