"You are lying to me!" Edith cried. Her tears gushed as she faced her horrible mother-in-law, fury twisting in her heart.

"You are fabricating everything. From the day I arrived at this house, you have done everything possible to make my life miserable. Don't pretend otherwise!"

She raised her finger at her mother-in-law and unleashed all the pain she had kept hidden within her until today.

"Well, you are not the choice for my son," Freya said coolly, "how could I like you? You were never his choice. If my late husband had not forced him into this marriage, my dear Jamie wouldn't spare you a second glance."

"But where is my fault in this?" Edith shouted. "I didn't choose your son. All I am doing is to have a perfect marriage with him and love this family, but in exchange, what am I getting?" Edith clenched her fists tight. "Nothing but endless tears."

"It is your fault, darling," Freya smiled, the corner of her lips moved upward a little- a smile born of cruel satisfaction.

"Your existence is a curse," Freya took a couple of steps to Edith, showing no pity as she continued her slurs, "Being a daughter of a poor family is a curse. Jamie is a kind-hearted man, that's all. This is why he had never told you how much your presence irked him."

Edith's eyes spread wide in disbelief, pain crashing through her. She released her fist and forced herself to speak, "He said he loves me."

Freya let out a soft mocking smile, "Did he?" Her eyes gleamed, "Then perhaps you should ask him what he is doing at the Generic Hotel with Cassandra Martin."

Edith froze.

For a moment, her tears stopped. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. Her chest rose sharply, a shaky breath scraping through her throat.

"No," she whispered. "You are lying." Her head shook on its own.

"Sure, sweetheart," Freya said lightly. "I am not forcing you to believe this. I also want you to catch a glimpse of the reality. I would hate to be the villain of your story" Freya added, a clear thrill reflected in her eyes.

In that instant, Edith understood that Freya was not bluffing. This was not another mind game. The truth hit harder than any insult.

She dragged her trembling fingers across her face, wiping away her tears, and without looking back, she turned and ran toward the exit.

Seated in the back of the cab, Edith stared blankly at the passing streets, her thoughts drifting back to the reason she had been taken from her home to marry Jamie. She had been told she was chosen, that the family wanted her, that Jamie would cherish her.

She remembered the night vividly.

Jamie had knocked on her door, intoxicated, his footsteps unsteady. Their marriage was nothing like that of a formal couple; he had never once crossed a boundary.

The moment she opened the door, Jamie stumbled forward, his arms circling her as he pulled her into a sudden embrace. His weight sagged against her, his face resting on her shoulder.

In a slurred whisper, warm against her skin, he muttered, "I love you, Edith." And throughout the night he claimed her again and again. Edith could feel it was pure love and care.

From that night on, love had bloomed wildly in her chest, unrestrained and hopeful.

"Madam, we have arrived!" The driver spoke aloud when he found Edith zoned out.

"Yes, yes!" Edith replied hurriedly. She stepped out of the cab, paid the fare, and shut the door behind her.

Forcing the ache deep into her chest, Edith hurried into the hotel. She paused at the reception desk, steadying her breath before asking, "May I know which room Mr Jamie Anderson is staying in?"

"Just a moment, ma'am," the receptionist replied, her fingers moving swiftly over the keyboard.

"Umm... Mr Anderson is in room 809, on the second floor," she said, lifting her gaze.

But Edith was already walking away, her footsteps quick and determined leaving the receptionist watching her retreat with a slight frown.

Panicked, Edith came to a stop in front of room 809. Her hand lifted, hovering inches from the door, hesitation locking her in place.

At the back of her mind she knew her mother-in-law could be lying, that this might be nothing more than a carefully orchestrated scheme. For all she knew, strangers could be sleeping inside that room.

Yes, no matter how hard she tried to reason with herself that pressing weight in her chest refused to lift. Logic failed her as doubt clawed deeper.

It would not subside, could not, until she saw the truth with her own eyes.

She knocked-just once. A light tap.

The door shifted slightly beneath her knuckles.

It was open.

Holding her breath, Edith pushed the door inward, her lungs tightening as if the air had been stolen from her.

The room was brightly lit, far too bright, as a result, her gaze was drawn instantly to the bed.

She saw the intertwined bodies, both of them naked.

The woman straddled him, her movements frantic. Her mouth pressed his. Edith could not see the man's face.

As her head was bursting with questions, her eyes fell on the grey quote play crumbled on the floor close to the door. The same coat Jamie had worn that morning before leaving for work.

A sharp pain pierced her chest, so sudden it felt like her heart had been wrenched from its place.

Coincidence, a voice whispered weakly. Anyone could own a coat like that.

But beside it lay a handkerchief. White! Familiar. Her breath shattered.

She had stitched a small heart into one corner herself carefully before slipping it into his pocket.

Her legs gave way slightly as she reached out and pulled the door shut, a soft click echoing far too loudly in her ears. Her vision blurred, the room spinning as her body trembled violently.

She swayed, barely managing to stay upright.

Then, on sheer instinct, Edith turned and walked, straight toward the stairs. Those silent tears were a testament to the pain she had never known.

★★★★"You don't like staying at home with everyone," Elena asked, turning her head toward Markrum.Markrum smiled at her, and replied, "No."Elena blushed slightly. She did not know why whenever she looked at Markrum, her heart began to race. She had met many men, yet never felt this way for anyone, nor had she ever seen someone so purely handsome."I was not like my elder brother- the good child- so I never got much attention at home. I guess that's why I got used to staying out," Markrum added, leaning on the cupboard leisurely. "Why don't you sit on the bed? There aren't many other options?""You can sit on the bed too instead of standing there. There is plenty of space," Elena said directly without much thought as she sat down in a corner."I know you didn't mean anything by it, but if I sit on the bed too and someone walks in, they might think something else. Neither of us wants it, do we?" The smile on Markrum's face deepened as he stared at the girl with pleasing eyes. Such a m

★★★☆"It will be a waste of time if she is in the audition room," Susan said, flipping the pages of the book. "You have never been worried this much about your mom before- so what's different today? It's not like this is the first time she is out this late because of work.""I don't know," Peter replied. "I know I am probably overthinking. But I really feel like something isn't right.""It's okay. This place, and you're new, that's why you are feeling like this. Don't worry she will come home safe. Let's wait a little longer, and if she still doesn't return, I will call her," Susan said turning her head toward the figure as she closed the book, a small smile playing on her lips."Okay, Aunt. How about we go out for a bit - take a walk? It might help me get my mind off mom, and we can explore the place too," Peter suggested gently, not showing too much desperation... otherwise his request might get rejected again. Sitting at home was starting to bore him.Susan looked at him for a mome

★★★★" I have no interest in listening to nonsense and there is nothing wrong with me. Just follow me," Jamie spoke in a cold voice, his face tight with irritation, anger barely contained. Without another word, he turned and walked into the room. The doctor glanced at Jason who met his gaze for a brief second, and then the two of them followed Jamie inside. As soon as the doctor's gaze fell on the woman lying on the bed, he was momentarily stunned. His eyes shifted instinctively to Jamie but the question on his lips never quite made it out.Sensing the gaze on him, Jamie shifted his eyes toward the doctor and said quietly, "Don't say anything, just check her. I think she has a fever.""Hmmm," the doctor nodded and went to the bed. Earlier Jamie pulled a sheet over Edith's body, covering her up. So the state of her pants remains hidden. The doctor extended his hand and touched Edith's forehead. The heat beneath his palm made him frown. He glanced at Jamie, and said, "Yes, she has a fev

★★ "Yes I was there... but why do you ask?" Martha asked a faint trace of confusion threading through her voice "It's nothing important," he said lightly, " I just happened to notice a couple of pieces of clothing there, looked like trousers. So I teased my brother about you. He refused to say a word," a faint chuckle followed. "Just in jest, nothing serious. By the way, both of you did surprise us with the early engagement date. Jamie, in particular, seems quite pleased.” Although it should have been a moment for Martha to feel happy- and even a little proud of herself. But there was only one thought running through her mind: trousers She had to ask, "Wait a second. Did you mention the trousers? "Yes, I did!" Markrum replied. " I wasn't wearing any trousers when I went to the office. So whose pieces of trousers did you find?" Martha asked anxiously, the thought clearly unsettling. "Oh!" Markrum sounded surprised too, "Maybe I was mistaken, I might have seen it wrong. Anyway let

  • A Ceo's Sin, A Hidden Heir   Jamie called Martha

★★★★"Me? Even Mom will be here shortly. What I don't understand is- what was the need to hide it from us in the first place?" Markrum asked, resting his body on the seat."What now?" Jamie asked in a strained, impatient tone, clearly he was in no mood to hear anything. "Why can't family matters stay in the house?" He closed the laptop."Whoa, what's going on with you? It looks like something seriously got you worked up," Markrum said, his eyes moved to the exposed door."Nothing. If you don't have anything important, I would prefer to talk later. I am a bit busy with work right now," Jamie said. His eyes were cold and controlled. He was Furious because Markrum was meeting Edith in secret and even calling her behind his back.'What was the need for all this?' Jamie's mind kept circling the thought, and with it, his fingers slowly tightened into a clenched fist."Martha has called the media and said that you are two getting engaged this week, and Mom has no idea about it. Is it true, o

★★★ He stared at her for a second with fury flashing in his gaze, then he picked up his phone and pressed it to his ear. "Jason, arrange a pair of trousers immediately. As fast as possible, if it can be done in seconds, even better." "Trouser? Boss, I am not sure I follow, what kind of trousers do you want me to arrange?" Jason replied. "Just get a damn pair of women's trousers. I am not explaining this any further," Jamie barked into the phone before cutting the call, his temper flaring as he tossed the phone down onto the table with a thud. Edith retreated from the desk, her movement stiff, and sank into the chair she had shoved back moments ago. There was an overwhelming silence in the room. It only dragged Edith's thoughts back to that sudden uninvited kiss. A part of her wanted to speak, demand answers, to warn him that he had crossed a line he never should have. But instinct held her. Suddenly her phone rang. Her gaze shifted toward the sound, and that's when she noticed h
