Chapter 12

Serena’s voice was gentle but sounded urgent. Michael’s face darkened. “I’ll be there soon.”

Michael walked into the coffee shop and Serena had already been waiting there for a long time. Her hair was in a high ponytail and she was wearing a simple and elegant long dress. Regardless of how she dressed up and the aura she released, Serena was like a beauty from a noble family.

Michael stared at her ponytail, and his heart suddenly fluttered. He walked to the chair opposite her and sat down. “Did you wait for a long time?”

“I just arrived as well.” Serena laughed and asked him considerately, “Michael, do you still drink black coffee?”

Michael nodded. “Why did you need me so urgently?”

Serena bit her lip and her face was a little worried. “I… Saw Christina. She’s not doing well now.”

Michael did not give any further reaction and only responded with, “Mm.”

Serena knew immediately that he already knew about this. Maybe he had already met up with Christina.

She felt very uncomfortable the moment she thought about Michael and Christina’s past. Serena felt like there was a rock pressing on her heart very heavily.

She hesitated for a very long time but decided to tell Michael about what she saw happened to Christina. Now that she looked at it, she made the right decision.

Even if she did not tell him, just by Michael’s influence, he would have gotten the news very quickly.

“Michael, Christina’s living a very difficult life. Let’s help her, alright?”

“She doesn’t need our help!” Michael laughed coldly and he remembered the scene that happened in the hospital a long time ago.

“I went to the shopping mall with Wendy. Coincidentally, we saw Christina accidentally scratch and tear a piece of clothing. The sales lady wanted her to pay for it but she did not have any money, so I helped her buy that piece of clothing.”

Serena frowned lightly and hesitated a little. “Michael, the clothes she was wearing were very worn-out, the sunglasses she wore were out-of-date. She’s definitely not living very well.”

His gaze was solemn. “When did you see her?”

“It was about three days ago. When I looked at her, she looked so pitiful. I felt sorry for her deep down as well. Michael, let’s just help her, okay?”

“It’s her own problem that she’s in this pitiful state. That’s nothing to do with us!” Michael stood up and walked out. “Don’t mention her name in front of me anymore!”

After leaving the coffee shop, Michael made a phone call to his assistant. “Find out what Christina Williams and Matthew Henderson’s relationship is right now!”

In the coffee shop, as Serena saw the figure of Michael leaving without hesitation, she suddenly felt aggrieved.

Everyone knew that she was Michael’s girlfriend. She was the missus of the Larson family who had somehow not been married into the family yet. Everyone was envious of her, but only she knew that all this was fake.

Michael treated her gently and it looked like there was no problem. However, behind all this gentleness, he was cold and distant.

She was Michael’s fiancée but till today, Michael had never touched Serena’s hands, or even kissed her, or wanted her.

These were the most common things that occurred between normal couples but it became a hope of hers. Serena hoped for it but she could not have it.

If it were not for his mother, Heather Sunderland, Michael would probably be too lazy to be part of this act. He probably would have dropped it long ago.

However, she really loved him. Serena loved this man to death.

From the moment she met Michael for the first time, she was already hopelessly in love with him. He was so perfect, just like the prince charming she was looking for.

Previously, Serena was an illegitimate daughter so she could not afford more than a glance at him. Things were different now, she was the daughter of the Mayor and a prestigious socialite.

The day Serena entered the Garcia family, she tried very hard to change herself. Serena started speaking softly, she stopped showing her teeth when smiling, her footsteps were light and she did not make noise when eating.

Her transformation was just like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. It was beautiful but painful. Serena had to spend a few years breaking her bad habits and transformed into a noble, generous, gentle, and elegant lady from a wealthy family.

Everyone said that she was an elegant beauty, just like a princess who came out from fairytales. Serena also always thought that a princess like her was enough to match the prince of her dreams.

However, the way Michael treated Serena was just like a bucket of cold water that splashed onto her and made her heart cold.

In Michael’s eyes, she was not that different from those wealthy ladies who presented themselves to him. They were just like clouds that were passing by.

Serena tried her best to please Heather and tried to create chances to get close to Michael. It was her outstanding background that caught Heather’s attention.

Just when she thought she was done with Heather and was close to success, Serena could not believe that she still lost in the end, and suffered a crushing defeat.

Michael had never once placed his gaze on her. There was only Christina in his eyes.

Serena personally thought that there was nothing she could not compare herself to Christina with. Also, Serena was the Mayor’s daughter. However, Michael could not see the good in her and would rather abandon a princess like her and chose Cinderella instead.

In order to win over Michael, she started to play foul and plotted a plan to frame Christina.

She finally did it. Michael kicked Christina out of the house and let her fend for herself. This way, Serena could appear and stay by his side legitimately.

Michael liked Christina. Everything that Serena said, do or dress up, she was imitating Christina just so that Michael would look at her with more than just a glance.

Serena started tying her hair in a ponytail that she hated. From her perfumes to cosmetics, clothing to bags, they were all Chanel. Just to attract him, she became more and more like someone else and not herself.

It was also because of all these characteristics that were the most similar to Christina, Serena became the woman who stayed the longest by Michael’s side.

She even became his fiancée.

Michael started to speak to her gently and treated her with more care. Her hopes were slowly coming true step by step.

Unfortunately, Christina came back!

If Michael actually let go of his relationship with Christina, he would not have acted with so much resistance. The more intense his reaction was, the more it meant that he cared.

It had been three years. Christina was still a scar that could not be touched in his heart. Christina was the only one who could make up for it.

Serena’s fingers tightly held the teacup, the tip of her fingers slowly turned pale.

She needed to start doing something!
