Chapter 15

On the way back to the Larson family’s house, Michael sat in the back seat with his eyes closed. The driver thought he fell asleep and reduced the speed of the car.

Only Michael knew that he could not actually fall asleep. All he had in mind was the image of Christina and Matthew being together.

Michael finally met the person he was searching for the past three years, but there was not even a hint of happiness seen on his face. At most, there was only anger and hurt.

Where had she been for the past three years? How did she end up with a person like Matthew Henderson?

Michael was very confused. His thoughts were very fuzzy as he returned to that morning three years ago.

That morning, when he returned to the villa, Michael noticed that it was unusually quiet and not a single sound was heard.

He went downstairs to look for any activity. Finding nothing, Michael dragged his heavy feet back upstairs and opened the bedroom door, but Christina was nowhere to be found.

Michael had thought that she had definitely gone out to the supermarket to buy groceries for lunch.

Thus, he sat quietly on the couch and waited. Michael waited till noon and three hours had passed. Christina still did not return.

He frowned and ran out of the bedroom and ran straight to the study. No one. He ran to the kitchen, there was still no one.

Michael went around the whole villa and he still could not see Christina. The woman was not in the villa. It was just him there, alone.

Michael suddenly panicked. He searched around the villa again and again. In the end, he was exhausted and returned to the bedroom.

He opened the wardrobe. Christina’s clothes were arranged neatly inside.

Michael threw all the clothes in the wardrobe onto the floor and he noticed all the clothes that were bought after their marriage were still there. Only a red dress was missing.

That dress was given to her by Francis as a gift during their wedding. It was just that Michael thought the dress was too ugly and outdated, so Christina never wore it before and only kept it in the wardrobe.

All the clothes were here, except for this piece of clothing.

He opened the drawer at the bedside and noticed all of Christina’s documents were missing.

Michael’s fingers started to tremble uncontrollably. He scanned around the bedroom and realized nothing had changed. It was just that woman who was missing.

There was a note in front of the vanity mirror. There were a few lines of delicate print. It was Christina’s handwriting.

Everything that Michael had bought for her after their marriage was listed on that note. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings… The last sentence: All items have been listed. Please have a check.

He turned the note over and there was another line of words: Please send the divorce papers and ring to Francis Williams’s address at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

That familiar handwriting seemed like an insult in Michael’s eyes. He opened the drawer to the dresser and there were big and small boxes arranged neatly inside.

That was all his effort. Michael bought the best cosmetics for her and chose the best accessories for her. He could even remember the model of all the accessories and the date when he bought them for Christina.

In the middle of the drawer, there was a small box. The wedding ring he gifted to her was sitting in the box.

Christina had a strong personality. She did not want to receive his gifts. When they were getting married, she insisted that they would buy the wedding ring for each other. This was how they could express their love for each other.

That time, Christina spent all of her savings.

She said she would use this ring to hold him tightly, and that she would not let him go for the rest of her life.

Christina said that the moment they wore their ring, it would be for life until both of them had grey hair and slowly grew old together. They would then wear them in their coffins and would never take them off.

The vows they once said were still ringing in Michael’s ears, to live together forever and to never let go.

Hah!

That was actually all a lie!

Michael looked like he had gone crazy and pushed all the accessories and cosmetics down to the floor.

Everything in the villa still remained. Christina never took anything away, even her most private undergarments. She washed them cleanly and arranged them into the wardrobe neatly.

She only wore the red dress that Francis gifted to her. Christina disappeared completely and no trace of her could be found.

She left a marriage with nothing to such an extreme.

Christina was so harsh!

Michael felt that his heart was torn into pieces and fresh blood was flowing everywhere.
