Chapter 4

Serena Garcia found herself in a difficult position. Christina Williams had always mocked her from the start and had occasionally made her look bad too.

Although Christina had been kicked out of the Larson family, she was still as feisty as she used to be. Now that Serena has become Michael Larson’s new girlfriend, Christina was still relentless when she spoke to her, without a slight hint of respect.

Standing next to her was Wendy Cohen. Trying to become an upper-class woman, Wendy relied on Serena to be a part of the rich. In return, Wendy backed Serena up whenever she bumped into tough situations like this.

“Serena only took you as her sister because she’s a nice person. If it were another person, they probably would’ve struck you across the face by now.”

A loud smack could be heard just as her voice trailed off. Marks from the slap begun to show on her face as a tingling sensation spread across her cheeks.

Wendy was stunned. Absorbing what had happened, rage overtook her as she yelled, “How dare you hit me, Christina?”

“I did what I did! No one forced you to k*ss up to anyone’s *ss. Even if you do, it doesn’t mean that you can offend anyone whenever you want to. Do you think she’s gonna back you up?”

Annoyed at what Christina did, Wendy rolled up her sleeves as she prepared to hit her back. Serena shot her a look and Wendy instinctively lowered her arms.

She had been so mad that she had totally forgotten about Christina’s identity. As she calmed herself down, she realized that Christina was not just anyone she could mess around with.

Christina Williams was Mayor John’s daughter. Raised in a wealthy family, she always had everything she wanted. Soon after her birth mother had passed away, Mayor John decided to welcome Serena and her mother into the Garcia family.

Unable to accept what he did, Christina broke off all ties with the Garcia family and changed her last name. That was the last time she had ever stepped foot into the Garcia household.

It was something that she never told anyone, not even Michael Larson. If he had known her real identity, perhaps he would not have divorced her in the first place.

She walked out of the mall only to find Matthew Henderson waiting for her by the entrance. Losing his patience, he glared at her furiously. “What took you so long?”

“I’m sorry, President Henderson. There won’t be a next time,” She said as she apologized earnestly. Christina was in a rather good mood after releasing her frustrations on Wendy just now.

Matthew wanted to tell her off but decided otherwise when he saw how apologetic she looked.

Letting her off the hook now did not mean that he would make things easier for her later. Soon, they arrived at the restaurant. There, Matthew instructed Christina to wait outside the private dining room with the excuse that her looks were too ‘horrendous’ to be able to dine with the businessmen. Strict orders were given not to leave her spot unless she had been called for.

Most of the dishes had been served yet the most important guest had still not arrived.

It had been a strenuous day. As fatigue washed over her body, she started to feel hungry and her stomach grumbled in hunger. The waiters walked past her with dishes in their hands. The delicious aroma of food filled her nostrils as she salivated terribly.

Suddenly, a familiar voice rang in her ears. “Christina?”

Raising her head, she looked towards the direction of the voice and found John Garcia looking back at her. An unexplainable expression was written on his face.

Pretending not to see him, she shifted her gaze.

The guests in the dining room walked out and stood in a line. “Welcome, Mayor John!”

John Garcia ignored the people in front of him. Laying his eyes on his daughter, he noticed that she was much thinner than she had been three years ago.

She had her mother’s eyes. Guilt overtook John and he reached his hands out to touch her face.

The guests were shocked at what they saw. Did Mayor John just assault a young woman in public?

Those who wanted to take advantage of the situation instantly leaped at this opportunity. “Mayor John seems to be quite interested in your secretary, President Henderson. Why don’t you just let her join us for dinner?”

Matthew did not mind. After all, he had already achieved his aim by making her stand outside the room. “Come in, then,” he ordered.

Waiting for Mayor John to be seated, the guests took their spots. An empty seat right next to Mayor John had been intentionally left empty for Christina.

The guests were shocked when Christina claimed her seat in silence.

The grudge she had with John Garcia was so deep that could not be described with a few words. If she had been her old self, she would have walked away the moment she saw John.

Everything was different now. Things had been hard for her after her divorce and heartbreak made her move away from this city. No matter how bad things were, she would always get back on her own two feet and live her life. Although she still had a fiery temper, she had become significantly calmer since they last met.

It was not that big a deal, just two strangers sharing a table for a meal.

John Garcia did not think the same way. He was elated that she was willing to sit next to him for dinner. Ever since Serena and her mother moved into the Garcia household, Christina had lived with her uncle in the old town. Things took a turn for the worst and she took him as her enemy.

He tried to patch things up with her but she had never allowed herself to look past this incident.

Things came to a point where she would threaten to expose the truth about his affair if he tried to contact her again. This would leave a great impact on his career and John would lose his reputation as a mayor.

Not only did she loathe him, but she was also disgusted with him.

He knew Christina's character very well. As someone who prioritized her actions before words, he knew that she would definitely do what she said if he had pushed her further to accept his decision. That was why he left her alone all these years.

Ever since she had been in high school, she had always listed Francis Williams, her uncle, as her guardian. This remained the same up until she graduated from university.

He was also the one who walked her down the aisle when she got married to Michael Larson.

No one knew about her true identity, not even Michael.

Ignoring what the guests were talking about, John gave Christina his full attention. Picking up some food off the plate with his chopsticks, he placed it into her bowl.

“Eat more. You look so skinny now.”

Lifting her head, Christina realized that white hair had begun to form at the temple of John’s head.

Although they had not met for a long time, Christina occasionally tuned into news of her father on the television. From there, she had always remembered him as a handsome, young man who was full of energy.

Dumbfounded, it dawned to her that her father was getting old.

Her heart became heavy as she felt bad for him. After all, he had been the man who had raised her up.

She lowered her head back as she ate the vegetables he gave her.

Seeing this, John’s smile widened as he grinned from ear to ear. Delighted, he placed more food into his daughter’s bowl.

Stunned, the guests shared looks amongst themselves. What was the matter with Mayor John? They had never seen him offer anyone food throughout the time they had spent with him.

Matthew widened his eyes. It was rare to see Mayor John being that courteous to someone else. Why Christina, why now? He bit his tongue in frustration.

It could not be.

Mayor John was a man of integrity. He did not expect a man with such values to have a fetish for four-eyed women like Christina. Perhaps it was only for show. Maybe Mayor John was actually a wild animal deep down his heart. What was harder to digest was the fact that the four-eyed girl was actually into the old man as well.

A dramatic love scene between the two played in his mind. If people knew what was going on, they would definitely dub them as a shameless pair.

No wonder the four-eyed girl never paid any attention to him. She was interested in older men rather than men of her age!

His thoughts wavered off. From the day she worked in their company, she had somehow managed to capture the eye of the boss. The old man thought so highly of her and even sent her to observe Matthew. Unless…

Matthew smacked his lips.

No way!

He must give the old man a call after this. He would not let this issue slide this time!
