Chapter 5

Matthew Henderson wanted to meet his new girlfriend but found it hard to leave. Dinner had long passed yet John Garcia did not want to let Christina Williams go.

With a mirthless smile stamped on his face, Matthew walked over. “Thank you so much for your adoration towards my assistant, Mayor John, but I’m afraid that she has to leave soon. You see, she still has to run a few errands for me tonight.”

John Garcia was not a stupid man. Judging from Matthew’s sarcastic tone, he instantly knew that Matthew had misunderstood the situation.

Giving a bitter laugh, John moved away from Christina. “Let me know if you ever need my help, President Henderson.”

Obtaining the green light from the mayor was supposed to be a good thing and Matthew was supposed to be happy about it.

Somehow he was the total opposite of that now. Thinking about how the mayor had been interested in the four-eyed girl, a gush of disgust overflowed him as he tried not to throw up.

He gave a cold reply. As he rushed Christina into the car, he gestured for the driver to drive away immediately.

Seeing the car speed away, John let out a laugh. He found Henderson to be quite an interesting character. Did he have a crush on his daughter?

The duo had arrived in the old town, where Christina was still staying at her uncle’s place.

In a hurry to meet his new lover, Matthew initially wanted to leave her on the street by her place. Noticing the dark alley up ahead, Matthew felt bad for Christina and changed his mind.

Situated in a small run-down town, the road to Francis William’s house had no streetlights and was filled with portholes. Being a bumpy road, it was obviously going to be very difficult if Christina were to walk home.

Gritting his teeth, Matthew instructed the driver to drive into the alley. Since they were just one street away, he decided to drop her off by her door.

The moment Christina got down from the car, Matthew immediately instructed the driver to speed off.

As Matthew urged the driver to increase the speed again, beads of perspiration formed on his forehead and he slammed the gas pedal.

Just as he made a turn, a loud bang could be heard. The car had collided with another car that was making its way into the alley from the opposite direction.

The airbags popped out just in time and saved the driver’s life. As he looked back, he realized that Matthew had not been that lucky. As he did not wear his safety belt, his body had lunged forward during the collision and hit his head. Lying against the back of the front seat, blood trickled down his face as he fainted.

Alarmed, the driver rushed out of his seat to save his passenger. Although he was a spoiled, rich brat, Matthew had been the only heir to the Henderson family. If anything were to happen to him, the old president would definitely skin him alive!

“President Henderson, President Henderson… Are you okay?”

On the other end, Michael Larson’s head rested on the partition of the car. Bleeding from the bruise, he wiped away the blood, opened the car door, and walked out.

Matthew Henderson’s driver was screaming for help. “Help! Can anyone save President Henderson?”

As Michael approached the vehicle, he instantly recognized the man that was being dragged out of the car.

The driver trembled slightly by the sight of the man in front of him. The air became frosty as he made out who the man was under the faint light.

“President Larson… Please save our Young Master!” The driver said as he looked at Michael like he was his knight in shining armor.

Both the cars had been totally damaged. Creasing his forehead, Michael Larson rolled up his sleeves as he helped drag Matthew into the alley. Calling a cab, they rushed Matthew to the hospital.

As the Hendersons were quite an influential family, news of their arrival had already notified several prestigious families in the city.

It was the first time a member of the Henderson family visited this city and Michael did not expect the family to send Matthew. Incompetent and ignorant, Matthew had been a playboy who paid no attention to the family’s business matters.

Matthew was quite a peculiar person. He was a young lad who spent most of his time on women and sex rendezvous. Who knew such a small car crash could have him completely knocked out?

As the cab arrived at the hospital, Matthew’s driver escorted him into the emergency room as he waited outside patiently. He slapped himself across the face out of frustration. If he knew this would have happened, he would not have driven so fast in the first place.

Michael was about to leave when his phone rang. Looking at the caller ID, he realized that it was Serena Garcia.

“Hello?”

“Where are you, Michael?”

“In the hospital.”

“The hospital? Are you sick, Michael?” Serena Garcia found her heart hanging in the air as she worried for him.

“I’m fine. Was just sending someone over to the hospital.”

“Thank god. You got me worried for a second there.”

“I gotta hang up, I’ve still got some errands to run.” Although his voice was calm, it sounded more like an order instead of reassurance. Not waiting for Serena to reply, he abruptly ended the call.

Serena had been home at the Garcia household when she called Michael.

Keeping her phone in her pocket, Serena quickly changed into an outfit as she left her room. She had a bad feeling about this.

Sophia Kendrick sat in the living room with a facial mask on her face. Seeing how worried her daughter was, she asked, “ Where are you going at this hour, Serena?”

“Michael’s in the hospital now. I don’t know what happened so I’m going over to have a look.”

Upon hearing this, Sophia became anxious too. “Did anything happen to Michael?”

“He didn’t tell me anything, which makes me even more anxious about his condition.” Serena was heading towards the door when she abruptly thought about something. “Christina’s back, Mom.”

Shocked to hear this, Sophia asked, “Why’s she back?”

“I met her at the shopping complex today. From the way she was dressed, I can tell that her life hasn’t been that great.” Serena frowned, unsure of Christina’s intentions for coming back to the city.

“Don’t worry. The divorce had happened three years ago and you’re getting engaged with Michael soon. She can’t do anything about it.”

Sophia tried to calm her daughter down. “I know Christina’s character very well. She’s a very vengeful person. Michael had broken her heart back then, she probably won’t want to have anything to do with him anymore. Her presence shouldn’t affect your engagement at all.”

Upon saying so, John Garcia’s car entered past the villa’s gates.

“Dad’s home.” Standing up from the sofa, Sophia followed her daughter closely as they headed out to welcome him home.

Seeing the mother and daughter, John raised his hand as he patted Serena’s head. “How nice of you to welcome me home today,” he said.

“Pops!” Serena said affectionately.

Sophia took over the briefcase from John. “Was there a business function tonight? Did you drink?”

John nodded his head. “Yeah, just a few rounds.”

“Let me make you some tea. You’ll feel better in no time.” Placing the briefcase in the living room, Sophia went to the kitchen to make tea. Walking towards the living room again, Sophia passed the cup of tea to John.

As John took a sip of the tea, he motioned for the two of them to take a seat. “I saw Christina today.”
