SELENE

My shoulders slumped as I walked weakly out of the guest wing. My whole body trembled. I was devastated—numb, empty. Emotions no longer existed within me. A wave of crushing loneliness rolled through my chest, threatening to drown me whole.

Just as I was about to step outside, Mira blocked my path, a twisted smile tugging at her lips. I tried to sidestep her, but she gripped my wrist tightly. I shut my eyes and exhaled.

“It’s nice to see you’re finally coming to your senses,” she mocked, tilting her head with false innocence.

I tried walking past her again, but it was clear she was determined to ruin what little peace I had left. I let her have her moment.

Freeing my wrist, I said quietly, “I’m glad you finally understand that Lucien was never going to look at you the way he looked at me. It’s good that you’ve come to terms with the truth—that the only thing connecting us is now gone.”

“I need to leave, Mira. Please, move,” I said. My voice was tired. I was done fighting. She won. I lost. There was no reason to argue anymore over something that was never mine.

“Leave?” She giggled like a child who had just won a game. “Oh, I’ll move, but not before I say thank you. You have no idea how much good you've done by stepping aside. I really thought you’d be pathetic enough to keep chasing Lucien around. I mean, three years and still—he picked me over you.” She smacked her lips in mock pity. “So sad.”

“What now, Mira? You’ve won. What more do you want?” I murmured, rolling my eyes.

“You still don’t get it, do you?” Her tone dropped, sharp like glass. “Even after your precious unborn pup died, Lucien still won’t look at you the way he looks at me. He never cared about your pup, Selene. Isn’t that pathetic?” She tilted her head, mocking. “Honestly, I feel bad for that poor pup. But maybe it’s for the best. You wouldn’t have made a good mother anyway.”

My fists clenched at my sides, my nails digging into my palms. I forced myself to stay calm.

Mira was always like this—cruel and smug. Acting like the world revolved around her. She always had to be the center of attention.

I never truly understood her hatred for me, but the moment she came back into this pack, I knew it was mutual. Everything about her made my skin crawl. I hated the way she pretended to be sweet around Lucien, how she twisted the truth and played the victim.

She got away with everything—shoving me and calling it an accident, hitting me behind closed doors, all while flashing that innocent smile when others were around. Even in school, she was the same: cruel, manipulative, always picking at the wounds I tried to heal—mocking the death of my parents, humiliating me for things beyond my control.

I tried to live quietly. Tried to be a good Luna, to stay out of trouble. But she came back, and she made it her mission to destroy me.

And now… maybe she had.

“Mira, please,” I said again, quieter this time. “Move.”

“No,” she snapped.

Just as I turned to walk away, she suddenly yelped and fell to the floor.

I turned, startled—confused—until Lucien came rushing out of nowhere, immediately kneeling beside her.

“Mira,” he said, his voice full of concern.

Tears streamed down her cheeks, and I stared, baffled.

“You should be resting,” Lucien said gently. “You’re still healing.”

“I know… I know,” Mira whimpered. “I just heard that Selene was leaving the pack. I wanted to ask her to stay, for the good of everyone. But she got angry… said I ruined things between you two… and then she pushed me.” Her voice cracked with just the right amount of pain, the perfect victim.

My jaw dropped.

Unbelievable.

Lucien’s eyes snapped to mine, dark and furious. “How could you, Selene?” he growled. “You’re the one who rejected me. I begged you to reconsider, and now you're accusing Mira? This isn’t her fault.”

I opened my mouth to speak, to defend myself, but no sound came. What was the point? He wouldn’t believe me.

So I smiled bitterly, inhaled deeply, and turned away.

The night was cold, and the rain poured mercilessly as I walked down the dark, empty road. My clothes clung to my skin, soaked through. My hair dripped. I didn’t care.

Tears mixed with raindrops as I walked aimlessly, my heart in pieces.

Alone again.

No parents to run to.

No pack to call mine.

No mate to hold me.

Just me. Broken and fading.

I looked up at the sky, wondering why the Moon Goddess—why Selene—would curse me like this. Hadn’t I suffered enough? I tried to be good. I gave everything—my love, my loyalty, my hope.

Three years of being a Luna. Three years of loving a man who never loved me back.

And now, not even my fated mate had shown up. Not that I wanted him to.

Let the rogues come. Let them end this pain.

What was the point in surviving when there was nothing left for me in this world?

A sleek black car pulled up beside me. Its tires splashed water from the road. I didn’t move. I just stood there, waiting for it to drive off.

Instead, the window rolled down, and a deep, unfamiliar voice spoke my name.

“Selene.”

I froze. The voice was smooth, commanding, and unfamiliar. I turned slowly to face the driver. All I could see through the darkness were his piercing, marble-gray eyes locking onto mine.

Magnetic. Dangerous.

“Who are you?” I asked, my instincts screaming at me to run, but my feet refused to move.

His lips curved into a slow, almost predatory smile. I couldn’t see the rest of his face, but something inside me warned me this man was trouble.

“Someone who knows exactly what it feels like to be betrayed,” he said.

SELENE“You aren’t responding to what I said mom, this is the first time I have seen you this scared in my entire life.” “It doesn’t matter if I respond, what is going to happen, will happen Rory.” Iris said, her voice low.Rory stood behind her mother, she was barefooted, her hoodie slightly damp from the rain outside, but it was drying already. She looked younger than she should have. Innocent. Not yet weathered by the darkness Iris had feared for too long.“I wasn’t going to do it,” Iris said, her voice low, but firm. “I told her no. Even if she threatens me too much I will never kill the Luna of my pack, the moon goddess will never forgive me if I do such a thing”Rory’s brow furrowed, arms folded protectively across her chest. “Then why did she come here like she had a hold over you?”There was silence in the room for a moment. It was heavy and real.“Because she does,” Iris admitted. “Vivian isn’t someone you should ever mess with Rory, and I hope everything you saw today will

SELENEIris paused for a while to pick the herb, she had to decide. But her hands weren’t steady in the drawer. She needed to make a smart move. To be faster than Evelyn. She had to think about what she was told before it was too late for her. Before Zarek’s wolf grew restless. She reached for the right vial, the one she had prepared only once before. Bitterroot. Crushed blackthorn. Spiritweed. It could cleanse bond suppressants. Her hand paused, trembling slightly, when the door suddenly opened behind her, she knew she wasn’t expecting anymore.“Mom!”The voice scared her like lightning. She startled, her grip slipped and a different bottle tumbled from the shelf, amber glass, red label. Not the cleanser.“My dear, Rory,” Iris whispered silently, catching the bottle just before it hit the ground. “Oh, you scared me for a second.”The girl laughed, very loud . “Sorry mom. I didn’t know you were this jumpy. Well I’m back!”She rushed into her mother’s arms, smiling bright and smelling

SELENEMy body felt like ice.Bond suppressant. That was the answer none of us had dared say out loud. That’s why I couldn’t feel Zarek. Why his scent didn’t call to me, why his presence didn’t stir my wolf. It wasn’t me. It was done to me.And someone in this damn pack had the audacity to do it.Zarek paced around the room in anger, his fists tight, his jaw locked tight. “Is there a way to reverse it? Or a way to cure her?” he asked, voice low and hard, like he was choking on hope he didn’t want to lose again.Iris hesitated. “There’s no guaranteed cure… but I’ll try. I’ll gather what I can. Natural cleansers. Something to flush it out of her system. Maybe even the old rituals—if she consents.”“I do,” I said quickly, my voice tight with urgency. “Try anything. Everything.”Zarek stilled, his eyes finding mine again. This time, there was pain in them—raw, scraped bare. “We’ll fix this. I swear it.”I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. Because while my mind understood he was my mate, my body—

SELENEIris stepped into the room, her movements were slow and quiet, Iris has been in the pack for months and she is known for her ability to heal people.Iris froze for a while, sniffing something but then she turned her gaze to me.The door closed behind her with a soft sound.Zarek stood by the window, near his office desk, his back turned to the room, his hands dipped deep in his pockets. He didn’t look at Iris right away. Instead his gaze was locked on the trees, he stared at his window even though he knew Iris was in the room already.I sat on the edge of the low leather couch, arms folded, spine straight. My fingers gripped my own elbows without realizing it.Zarek finally turned Iris. “I need you to help me check Luna,” Zarek said finally, voice even. But not cold. Never cold with me.Iris raised her eyebrow, her head tilting slightly as she turned her gaze to me then she smiled at me softly. “Luna, may I ask what’s wrong?” She asked but she didn’t wait for me to respond. “B

SELENEZarek’s eyes were locked on me, for a while the two of us didn't say anything. Then I cleared my throat. “I need to check the list of maids you brought in today.” Zarek turned his gaze to the paper in my hand then he grabbed them and placed them on the table, he raised his head to my head, I was sitting on the couch.“It’s not important, what’s important is I need you to feel something now.” He spoke to me but it still didn’t work.“Zarek.” I stopped him then he stopped.“Luca.” He yelled then he went back to his seat.Luca rushed in. “Alpha.”“Get me the healer.” Zarek commanded, not looking at Luca’s face.“Why do you need the healer?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.“Luca.” Zarek called again.“Alpha.” Luca responded.“Get me the healer, don’t make me repeat myself.” Zarek said, this time his voice was deep, filled with anger.“Okay.” Luca said then turned to leave but I stopped him.I rose up immediately. “Luca, can you please tell me why you need the healer?” I

SELENEI nodded slightly. “Alright, I will get to work with the help off….” I said, my gaze locked on Leila. “Leila.Leila smirked. “Of course.” Evelyn rolled her eyes then she walked away, slamming the door behind her in anger. She walked in her room in anger then she grabbed her phone and called her friends but none of them picked up. Even though they had a fight she needed someone now to help her with her dirty schemes.Zarek’s words from earlier still didn’t leave her mind. He had made her angry, and now she is frustrated. She touched her stomach, which was beginning to show that she is pregnant. Then she began to pace around her room in anger, she picked up the cup filled with water that was placed on the table, then she drank the whole water, she planned to throw it at the wall but then she stopped because she had broken all the cups the maids brought to her room. She dropped the cup then, she turned her gaze to the table, just as she was about to pick up her phone from the ta
