Monique
Gavin and I were seated in the backseat of the car, and I lazily stared out the window. Earlier this morning, he had suddenly asked me to get dressed in formal attire, mentioning that he had somewhere to take me, but when I asked him where it was, he refused to say anything. According to him, this was going to be his wedding gift to me and a way for him to show how committed he was to proving that he meant it when he said he'd help me get revenge. I was genuinely taken aback when he said that earlier, but instead of dwelling on it, I reminded myself not to be fooled or get carried away. As the driver kept driving without stopping, I became even more restless and impatient. I threw a glance at Gavin, before questioning how long this was going to take. "I know you said it's a surprise, or whatever, but can't you please just tell me where we're headed now? I can't stand not knowing anymore." Gavin chuckled softly, his amusement evident in his eyes. "Ah, Monique, I didn't peg you as someone who would be so impatient," he teased lightly. "Don't worry, sweetheart, we're almost there. Just stay calm and wait a little longer." I let out a frustrated sigh, hating how anxious he was making me feel. Finally, after what felt like forever, the car came to a halt, and Gavin turned to look at me with an excited look on his face. "We're here, sweetheart," he said with a soft smile. I stared out of the car window, trying to check where we were, and I was beyond shocked to see where he had brought me. The building in front of me had the name Legacy Group boldly written in it, and I immediately recognized it as the company that was being run by Cole. Why on earth would Gavin bring me here as part of his big surprise? I turned to him, unable to mask my disappointment. "Gavin, if I'm not mistaken, this is Cole's company, right?" I asked."Yes, it is," he simply responded. I sighed, trying to control my rising temper. "If you knew it was, why bring me here? What could be the surprise you have for me in this place?" Even though I was obviously upset, the smirk on Gavin's face remained, making me wonder if he found this situation funny. "Do you trust me, Monique?" he asked all of a sudden, taking me by surprise.I let out a sigh, wondering how best to respond. "I do trust you, Gavin," I replied. "Even though I don't have much of a choice. Regardless, I trust you, and I want you to explain to me why we are suddenly at Cole's company of all places." Gavin turned to face me directly, his hands gently brushing my hair away from my face and tucking it behind my ear. It was an unexpected gesture that made me feel nervous and reluctant."The first step of your revenge starts today, Monique," he mentioned. "And all I'm asking is that you trust me. When we get inside, all you have to do is be confident and watch everything fall into place."I didn't understand what was going on, or what Gavin was up to, but something in me told me to trust that he wouldn't do anything to hurt me. After all, he was now my husband. "Alright, Gavin," I said. "I'm going to trust you this time."At my response, his smile widened, and almost immediately, he opened the car door and stepped out, before walking over to my side and extending a hand to help me out. I took his hand, and together, we walked toward the entrance of Legacy Group. As we entered the building, I started to feel nervous, and the only thing I could hear was the sound of my heels clicking against the marble flooring. Gavin led me through the reception, and for some reason, no one stopped him. It was almost like he owned the place as no one bothered to ask him any questions, and he also seemed to know his way around. After taking the elevator upstairs to the last floor of the building, we walked out before stopping in front of a set of grand double doors, engraved with the words, 'Conference Room'. "Are you ready, Monique?" Gavin asked softly, as he turned to face me.“Yes I am,” I replied.“Alright then. I will go in first and once I signal for you to come in, then do so, okay?” He asked, holding my hands softly and I nodded my head in understanding.Gavin went in and I stood outside waiting for him to call on me.After some minutes, I got the signal. I took in a deep breath and exhaled deeply before entering the conference room, and just like he had told me to, I made sure to look confident. To my surprise, there were so many other people in the room as well, and with how tense the atmosphere was, and the rigid look they all had on their faces, I could already guess that this meeting wasn't planned.Seated at the head of the table was none other than Cole himself, and I could tell by the horrified look he had on his face that he was shocked to see me. "M...Mr. Jones," Cole called, getting up from where he was seated, and walking up to Gavin with a bow.I was initially confused as to why Cole was being so respectful to Gavin, despite the fact that Gavin was in his company. But instead of making my confusion obvious, I pretended to understand what was going on. "I must apologize to you all for calling this meeting without prior notice. I'm sure you're all shocked, and probably wondering what is going on," Gavin spoke, ignoring Cole's greeting. I almost chuckled at how confused Cole looked while staring back and forth between Gavin and me, and if I wasn't supposed to be serious right now, I would have told him to be careful so his eye sockets didn't end up popping out. "Mr. Jones, you are our majority shareholder, and you have every right to call a meeting when you deem it necessary. Please do not apologize," Cole responded, and I mentally widened my eyes. Major shareholder? Gavin? Oh, that was definitely a surprise I didn't expect. "Before I proceed to why I called this meeting, I would like for you all to meet my wife, and the new majority shareholder of Legacy Group, Monique Jones," Gavin announced all of a sudden, and at that moment, I couldn't help but break character.THIRD PERSON POV"Do you have an idea why Mr. Jones called for this urgent meeting?" The shareholders and investors of Cole's company whispered amongst themselves as they waited for Gavin to show up. Last night, Gavin had called for a shareholder meeting wanting to tell them something important.Cole on the other hand was pressed. He had no idea as to why Gavin, the biggest shareholder at his company would request they all assembled. Cole constantly kept looking in the direction of the door while expecting Gavin because he felt nervous in the pit of his stomach. Gavin wasn't one to just call for a meeting and for him to do so, it was serious. The door opened suddenly and Gavin walked in with his assistant behind him."Hello, gentlemen. I'm sorry for keeping you all waiting," Gavin said the minute he stood before the shareholders and investors who were waiting for him.He looked around the room and once his eyes set on Cole he smiled. He had called this meeting because he had somethi
Monique's pov "Did you see the look on that idiot's face?" I laughed as Gavin and I walked out of the company and back to the car. "He looked absolutely mortified." The look on his face earlier had made me so happy because I could tell that Cole was both horrified and pissed off. I'm pretty sure the last thing he was expecting was for me to show up at his workplace and suddenly be announced as his boss, and the fact that Gavin had given me such a perfect wedding gift made my heart leap for joy. "Someone seems ecstatic," Gavin said, opening my side of the door for me. I looked up at his towering figure, and with a smile on my face, I responded. "And it's all thanks to you," I winked before entering the car. For some reason, Gavin seemed to have frozen up, because instead of turning around and getting inside the car, he simply stood frozen by my side of the door. "Aren't you getting in?" I asked with a confused look on my face. Instead of responding directly to me, Gavin wou
MONIQUEAfter he dropped me off, he drove off without saying anything and I’ve been staring at my wristwatch every hour to know what the time was.I hated that I was bothered but I couldn’t help it. As much as I was angry at him, I also had my part to play because I recall clearly what our agreement was but I just didn’t think it was going to be this way. The day soon began to lose its brightness signaling that nighttime was coming and I saw no headlights of Gavin. I wanted to pick up my phone and call him but my pride wouldn’t allow me to. Eight o’clock, nine o’clock, ten o’clock and I gave it up and called him. I dialed his number, it rang but no response. I dialed his number again for the second time and the same response. I gave up and decided to sleep and wasn’t responsible for him but I couldn’t. I tossed and turned on the bed, pleading for my body to listen to me and sleep but it didn’t happen.“Sleep, Monique! Sleep for fuck sake! He’s a grown-ass man and he will be fine so
Monique I was restless. I tried everything I could to stop thinking about the conversation that Gavin and I had earlier today, but no matter how many times I tried, I couldn't help it. To make things worse, I couldn't resume work just yet since it would be strange for me to start working immediately after my wedding to Gavin, so what that meant was that I was stuck in the house for the time being, and so was Gavin. I haven't left my room since our conversation, mostly because I didn't want to run into him and also because I didn't want to end up giving in to him. I already tried considering the idea of going on a honeymoon with him, but no matter how many times I thought it over, it was still a bad idea. Feeling frustrated, I let out a tired sigh, wondering how long I would have to stay cooped up in here. My room was already starting to feel a little bit suffocating. I honestly wanted to take a walk around the house and see for myself how big the place was since I haven't don
MONIQUE"Can we meet up and talk?" I read the message that came in some seconds ago. I furrowed my brows as I thought about who it could be as the message came from an unknown number."Who is this?" I sent it back, wanting to know since I couldn't guess. "It's Cole. Can we see and talk?"After reading the text, I was surprised that he'd sent me a text. Why does he want to see me? It didn't make sense to me why he'd want to talk to me.We had no business with each other and the last time we spoke, he threw me out of his house calling me a useless girl so what does he want to say to a useless girl?I ignored his text but my phone beeped again and again signaling I received numerous texts."Please don't ignore.""I know that you do not want to see me but please don't ignore me.""I will wait for you at the mountain restaurant 9:30pm.""I hope that you will come."I read his text and shook my head in disbelief. To think he thought I’d come if he sent me a bunch of text messages. Just as
Monique's Pov I could already tell that the voice that asked where I was coming from belonged to Gavin, but what I couldn't understand was why he thought he had any right to ask me such a question."I'm sorry, but what right do you have to ask me where I'm coming from? I mean, I remember asking you the same thing earlier, and you definitely didn't seem enthusiastic to respond to me, so why should I ?" I retorted, turning to look at him with a disapproving look on my face. He was obviously not having my response, and I watched him groan in frustration without caring in the least bit about how he felt. "Listen, Monique, I really don't understand what your problem with me is, but this nasty attitude of yours needs to stop! I'm sick and tired of dealing with this disrespect, and if you have something you perhaps want to say to me, go ahead and say it instead of behaving like a child," he said, and I scoffed in disbelief. Men and their audacity. I just finished dealing with one idiot
GAVINit has been the same ever since we had our first fall and I'm hating it. I tried not to be affected by it but it's driving me crazy. We got married for a purpose and that's what we should be doing. Each time I try to start a conversation with her, it always ends up in a fight and it doesn't sit well with me.Once again, I'm out, having a shot of two to distract myself before I go out."Hey handsome," a girl appeared beside me, touching my shoulder while staring at me lustfully.I removed her hand from my shoulder and looked away from her. "What are you doing here alone?" She asked and I mentally scoffed.I didn't reply to her because my response wasn't necessary. "You know..." she placed her palm on my shoulder again. "For a man like you, it doesn't make sense for you to be alone, don't you think?"I placed my hand on her and gently removed them. I called for the attention of the bartender. "My bills please," I said," taking out my card from my wallet. The waiter came back wi
Third-person pov "You can't possibly be serious, Cole!" Whitney hissed as she stared back at Cole with an annoyed look on her face. "And why exactly do you think that I'm not being serious right now, Whitney? What else do you expect me to do? Did you really think that I was going to let my pride get in the way? I'm not that stupid, Whitney! Don't underestimate me like that," Cole responded, not liking how Whitney was reacting to the fact that he had told her about meeting up with Monique. The reason he didn't tell her beforehand was because he knew how dramatic she was, and the last thing he wanted was for her to let her emotions dictate how they should go about the fact that Monique was about to be a problem again. Whitney rolled her eyes at him, letting her irritating show before responding. "I'm starting to find it very difficult to believe you when you say you're not stupid, Cole. I mean, how do you not realize how stupid and embarrassing you must have looked when you decide
