Chapter 8

작가: Ferrari
The tunes had cut out at some point; there was only pin-drop silence.

The priest leaned in and murmured, "Sir, Ms. Stewart has already..."

"Look, she's just running late," Francis said, his eyes scanning the crowd. "She's got this habit. Gets mad, plays hide-and-seek, and then I'll find her. With a little sweet talk, we'll be back on track again."

Tears streamed down Nora's face. "Francis, I'm begging you..."

It was as if Francis had only just noticed Nora standing there.

He gave her a long, serious look, then said with a hint of uncertainty, "I'm sorry, but my bride is Natalie Stewart. And you are?"

Francis had lost it.

He had completely forgotten about Nora.

Right at that moment, the grand doors of the manor swung open. Doctor Michael Johnson, the one who had declared me dead, strode in with a folder in his hand.

He made a beeline for Francis and handed him the folder.

"Take a look at this," Michael said. His voice boomed, loud enough for all to hear. "I hope it'll snap you

  • A Dark Romance   Chapter 7

Francis rose to his feet and moved toward her, his hand outstretched to touch. However, his fingers met only air.The vision vanished. Then, in the dead of night, Francis awoke to find 'me' seated at the edge of his bed, turned away, bearing the marks of injury."Natalie?" His voice was a whisper, barely there, as if he feared shattering the silence. She faced him, her features void of emotion. "Why didn't you save me?""I..." Panic seized Francis. She said softly, "You promised to protect me, but you were the one who killed me.""I didn't!" Francis bolted upright and flicked on the light. The room was empty.Except for me, a ghost, unseen by him.The visions kept coming, more and more often. Sometimes it was the fifteen-year-old me, huddled in a sea of red, whispering to him, "Do you want to live?"Sometimes the twenty-year-old me, reeling from my first kill, so sick I could barely stand, wishing he would just hold me.Other times, it was me at the moment of death, hangin

They held my funeral on a drizzly day.Francis stood by the grave, decked out in a black suit, black umbrella in hand, his face a mask of nothing. The casket was sealed tight. After a fall from the 18th floor, there was not much left to show, and not even the mortician could work miracles.Nora was at his side in a black dress, her sobs barely a whisper.Bernard loomed nearby, his expression dark as storm clouds. The rest of the clans had shown up, pretending to grieve, but really, they were all watching to see if the Davis family would crumble, if Francis would break. After all, everyone knew I was the closest one to Francis. The priest wrapped up his speech, and the coffin began its descent. Each shovel of dirt thudded dully against the wood.I soared free, wanting to bid myself one final goodbye. It was not until the tombstone stood firm in the damp earth that Francis said, "Keep looking."The butler was quick to his side. "Don, look for what?""For Natalie."His words we

I stared into his eyes, seeing my own pitiful reflection."I...need the medicine.""No, that's not it." He shook his head. "Try again. Who do you need?"The pain was swallowing me whole. I clutched at his wrist, my nails digging in. "Please...the medicine...""Say you need me.""I need you!" I screamed. "I need you, Francis! Give me the medicine! Please!"He wore a grin of triumph as he tipped two white pills into my hand and watched me swallow them. Then he kissed me, hard, his tongue tangling with mine, not stopping even when the pills went down. My clothes did not stand a chance; they were torn away in seconds.I was powerless to fight back. The pain from my injuries and the agony of being without medication: it was a living nightmare. There was no pleasure in that, only a desperate wait for the numbness that should follow the medicine. However, relief did not come. The pain lingered. My mind stayed sharp. With all the strength I could muster, I shoved Francis away. "This..

The music continued, but the atmosphere turned icy.Francis' expression was dark as he looked at Bernard, then at me standing by his side.He forced a laugh after a tense moment."Alright, I'll give you a shot. Win, and you can take her with you."His gaze lingered on me. I knew he was waiting for my reaction, eager to see me crumble, to see me plead. However, he was bound to be disappointed.I set down my glass of water and approached the card table. "What do I need to do, sir?"His expression grew even darker. "Are you in for this bet?""I'll leave it to your discretion," I answered. That response seemed to infuriate him. I could see his grip on his wine glass tighten, his knuckles turning white."Fine, let's bet."The cards were dealt, and the game was on. I did not get the rules of the game, but the vibe? That I could read like an open book.Everyone was as still as statues, barely breathing.Francis' grin was chilling, while Bernard's face turned to stone. The final

  • A Dark Romance   Chapter 3

My first night back at the Davis estate, sleep was a stranger. The withdrawal hit hardest in the dead of night.Curled up in bed, I shook with chills, my pajamas drenched in cold sweat. Memories assaulted me: my dad getting shot, my mom's last scream, the red liquid Adrian handed me...I remembered my first kill at 18: a traitor. Francis had shoved a gun in my hands and said, "Show your loyalty."I pulled the trigger, and the bullet found its mark.I spent that night throwing up, while Francis sat silently by my bed, patting my back with a tenderness that then felt like a distant memory. At 3:00 a.m., I stumbled to the kitchen for water. As I passed the study, I overheard Francis talking."I refuse to believe she doesn't love me, that all these years mean nothing to her," he said.I froze outside the door. The butler's voice came through, saying, "Don't rush it, Don. After the wedding, you'll have all the time in the world to shape her.""I can't wait that long," Francis repl
