Ch.22: The Gift

I stared unseeing at the deck of tarot cards on the small table in front of me.

Today was, thankfully, a rather quite day. Which didn’t happen very often.

There had only been one appointment scheduled for this morning and I just finished up with her. The rest of the day was open to walk-ins. Based on the number of people, or lack thereof, on the streets outside, it would be a rather calm day.

I had to wonder, due to the attacks and unnamed criminal behind them, if we would see a decrease in tourists until this was resolved.

Last night had been rough. I hadn’t gotten much sleep. Not only had I gone to bed really late, my dreams were dark and foreboding. Though, thankfully, I hadn’t dreamt of my parents’ murder.

“How are you doing, pretty lady?” Pete asked, appearing in the doorway. He leaned against the doorjamb, crossing his arms. While he looked relaxed, I could see the strain in his eyes.

“I’m doing alright. Tired. Didn’t sleep for shit last night. What about you?”

He shrug
