I tried not to overthink how Nikolai knew where I worked.

He didn't seem like a stalker, but I was a little uneasy about it.

I didn't say anything to Pete, though I did ask him if he and Nikolai knew each other. Pete only said they were acquaintances. He wouldn’t say anything more on the subject, so I dropped it.

The rest of the week went by without incident. The businesses were rather quiet. I had my regular clientele come in and a decent number of walk-ins, but it was noticeably slower.

Friday afternoon, when I was on my lunch break, Ron called me.

“Hello.” I answered, clipped. I was still upset about what happened earlier in the week.
