LOGINI tapped my fingers impatiently on the table, waiting for my prey to come and start her trial at my workplace.
When she came for the interview, it was blatant that I would give the job to her for my unashamed indulgence.
That I would enjoy trapping her in my arena with delicious offers she won’t be able to reject only to break that attitude of hers.
“Anytime now,”
I leaned back on my chair and put my hand over my mouth to hide my spreading smirk, determination surrounding me.
‘Ah, this is going to be too much fun. Like hell I would lose to Lucien,’
Soon, the clock struck 9 and the door of my cabin knocked; the thrill enhanced immensely.
There comes my prey, the one I would use to defeat my brother for once in my life- no harsh feelings- but, not this time.
Here it starts…
"Come in." I ordered dominantly.
Resting my one leg over the other, straightening my back. I raised my gaze and met hers, looking at me with a faint smile.
So anxious, so worried, still willing to do anything for money.
"Good Morning, Sir." She said and stood in front of me.
I guess she was also prepared for the upcoming mayhem but had no choice.
Working at Layne Enterprises was a chance of a lifetime she couldn’t possibly miss.
"Ms. Beth." I called her strictly.
"Yes. Sir?"
I rose from my seat assertively, unbuttoning my coat that made her shoulders tense up and walked to her.
"I am sure you have been explained about your work."
"Yes… Sir." She merely whispered, giving me a weak nod and I used this chance to taunt her.
“And I require confidence from my employees since you have declared so highly that you are here for work.”
I took another step to stare dead into her eyes, causing her to suppress her emotions and relax a little as I growled.
“So you better do it properly. Is that understood?”
“Yes, Sir. This won’t happen again,”
"You are on a one month trial. If you are proven eligible for the job, you will sign a three year contract with us where you'll work only for us, understood?" I explained to her.
Moving back and leaning against the table while folding my arms at my chest.
"Right, Sir."
"Since it's your first day and you don't have any great experience. I want you to stay in my office... for guidance." I said, hiding all the atrocity inside my heart.
But I guess she saw through my intentions.
"Sir, I can come to your office... for guidance." She paused, eyeing me, suspiciously but obeying as well.
"It's an order." I said sternly.
"Okay, Sir." She said,
"Keep a notepad with you and write all the things you will learn and to keep a record of my meetings and what they were about."
She nodded and took out her notepad from her bag and a.. Pencil? And such a fancy pink pencil that it itches my eyes.
I narrowed my eyes as I mocked, "You are rather amateurish."
She stopped writing and shot her head and replied, "But-"
"Everything matters, Ms. Beth. Use a pen, be professional," I instructed.
“I apologize, Sir,”
I handed her some files and explained to her what to do and her work. My cabin was ritzy, I sat on my throne and I watched her sitting on the sofa, right in front of me working earnestly.
I just need for the moment for her to sign the contract so that I can finally start my revenge before Lucien does something.
Intrigued to know what resides behind those exquisite emerald eyes gleaming in innocence, I called her.
"Ms. Beth."
She shot her head to me and asked, "Yes?"
"You said you need money desperately. Why do you need it?"
She lowered her head and smiled sadly and replied, "Financial Issues, what else?"
"What kind of?"
She looked at me blankly and said, "People call it 'Playing sympathy card'." I laugh a little.
She just kept smiling, her words were very appealing which made me crave her more.
"Well, I am not the person who'll melt just by some tears." I told her as her smile turned into a smirk. She moved back to her work and began to say,
"Me and my younger sister lost our parents when we were kids. We grew up in the orphanage together, she can't live without me.”
Younger sister? She was 23, how young could she be to be at the orphanage? 17? 15?
“Is that why you were working at the orphanage?” I asked nonchalantly.
“Yes, but obviously, in this economy, it is not enough,”
“Hmm, understandable, so now you are here to settle before she leaves the orphanage,”
“Yes. That's why I need to stabilize as quickly as I can and take her back.”
A logical reason but what about Lucien? He invited her, did she know about it? Do they know each other?
I had too many questions but I couldn’t unveil them all in one meeting.
“I need a job with good pay so that we can live together. It's hard to survive without parents- especially to be loved. " I nodded in understanding.
To be loved huh? Well, some had parents and were still unloved.
‘Shall I ask her about Lucien? Or how she got the invitation letter? No, That would be foolish.’
I wanted to ask her about what she was doing in Canada but I chose not to because she hadn’t mentioned it anywhere.
It would be creepy.
‘Ah, I could barely wait to see where this would lead,’
The rest of the day went in a blur as things went monotonously except the fact that I spent most of my time staring at her, observing all her movements, etching them to use them later to beckon her in my charm.
We were about to leave but I stopped her and offered her my hand to shake.
"Congratulations on your first day, Ms. Beth." I spoke with a charming smile.
She smiled back, eyes gleaming in admiration a little when I turned her worries to dust and guided her proficiently with no harsh feelings.
As if.
She took my hand hesitantly, swayed by my perfect frontage, also believing in my acting.
“Thank you very much for providing me with this privilege, Sir.”
It was a strange feeling, the relief on her face was.. odd.
‘Even a kid could tell my intention, can’t you?’
She tugged a strand of her hair behind her ear and said softly, "Good Night. Sir."
"Night." I said and left, knowing my nights can never be good.
‘You truly are an intriguing woman, Garnet Beth. I would love to break you,’
Later, the time for my shift was almost ending and I was completely exhausted. I was looking forward to falling into a deep slumber as it was Saturday tomorrow.Smiling widely to myself, I just wrapped up the work until Mr. Layne called.“In my office, Garnet Beth, right now,” Each time he would speak my full name, my heart started thumping, praying I hadn’t done anything to displease him. Swallowing hard, I prayed he wouldn't throw a stack of work on my head just to piss me off again. Yes, again. Hoping for the best, I knocked and entered his cabin only to find him in his usual eye-catching form. “You called me, Sir?” In a white shirt with two buttons opened and black pants, features enhanced by the black waistcoat and perfectly rolled sleeves. Leaning against the table with his one hand in his pocket and the other holding his phone with a sly smirk, twirling it around his fingers.“Yes, I have a question for you, Miss Beth,” His dangerous smirk alarmed me as he approached me
~ GARNET BETH ~•I was at work after dealing with the routine for Mr. Layne as if he was using work for distraction, for a change I guess. After attending three meetings, Compiling expense reports and answering phones and routing calls, it was still afternoon.“Huff, time has frozen today,” I sighed.Pinching the bridge of my nose after finishing my sandwich as there was some time left.I decided to relax a little bit before preparing the financial statement. Sighing, I was humming to myself until I heard a knock on the door with my eyes closed. Not expecting company for the next sweet minutes, I groaned, “Mr. Layne is busy for the next two hours-”“I am not here for him,”My eyes shot open as I found none other Lucien there.Looking undeniably handsome with his hands in his pocket and leaning against the doorframe, evoking a tingling in my body.“So, on a lunch break?” He chuckled, lifting his hat a little as a sign of his greeting.“Yeah.” I nodded shyly, clearing my throat and hopi
“Cancel all my plans, you are dismissed for today as well. Out. I need to go somewhere important,” I ordered dominantly.Insides curling from wrath at the slightest imagination of what he had done to my mother this time.“Uh.. okay. Have a nice day, goodbye,” She gulped anxiously. After reading my transparent fury, she knew the best action would be leaving.I was hundred percent sure she must be wondering what was wrong with me but my top priority was my mother. Not caring about anything else, I swiftly drove home, praying things won’t go out of hands and she would be okay.‘Why can’t she just leave that abusive husband of hers?’ Thinking furiously, I rushed inside, searching for them and saw them fighting not even privately rather in the open hall.Head hanging low, the echoes of miserable sobbing as he was holding her arm roughly, causing my blood to boil. “YOU NEVER LOVED ME, MELODY! YOU ARE A STAIN ON THE NAME OF A WIFE!” “I am sorry, Arthur, I am so sorry,”“I WILL NEVER FORG
~ ROY LAYNE ~•The intoxication that woman held for Lucien was infuriating me. How intensely she stared at him, filled with oh-so-damn admiration. And to break that rhythm of hers, I gave her the punishment I found befitting. An hour had passed, the shoot was done. Everyone had left except for me as I was sharing a drink with Lucien who chuckled at my wicked smirk.“Aren't you going to leave?” He asked casually, offering me a drink.“No, let her wait outside and realize…” Taking a sip of my drink, I returned a determined glance, enunciating darkly to piss him off.“That she is my prey,”Clicking his glass against mine, he returned the same expression and counter-questioned.“But the question remains- for how long?”“Accept it, brother, you are going to lose for the first time,” I winked, inclining on the stool nearby. As much of a lethal man he had become, I doubt he had faced defeat to which he chuckled in return.“Winning and losing are a part of life, I have lost countless times
A shiver went down my spine when I felt the tingling sensation of his fingers brushing against my back. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t remove the sensation of it, even if I wanted to.‘Should I tell Lesley about what Mr. Layne did? No, she will think of it as an invitation to some forbidden bond,’ I thought anxiously.Lucien? What about him? Will he help? Why did he do this in the first place? Was he… jealous of mine and Lucien's interaction? No, why would he be?“Huff,”Rubbing my temples, my mind was barely functioning, unsure what to consider his demeanor towards me.Noticing my vexation, Lesley asked monotonously while working on her laptop.“What happened, Garnet?”“Nothing. I am missing Eri. I am thinking of paying her a visit.” I made up an excuse.I knew if I had told her about the interaction, she would give me terribly wrong advice like- let him tempt you or something.“Yeah, you should, she must be missing you a lot,” She hummed, tapping her fingers rapidly on th
I entered and saw Lucien and his teams, setting things up while Mr. Bangs' assistant leaning on the wall as they were talking to each other."Hi." I said to both of them. Lucien turned his gaze and met mine, intensely. My heart skipped a beat as I passed him a nervous smile. They greeted me back and I asked, "Where's Mr. Layne?" "Oh, he is coming with our model." I didn’t know what I should do so I looked here and there, contemplating his studio with admiration. It was gigantic and all kinds of things for a perfect shot were present there. Too much stuff I had no idea about but it was fascinating to know that photography was much more than I thought.A whole team of five members with him as its leader."Do you like my dream place?" Lucien asked temptingly.Popping from behind when I was engrossed in contemplation, stopping my breaths. I gasped and turned and saw his face too close to mine. My heart began to beat fast, his enthralling eyes bore into mine."Huh? Y-Yes.. " I repli
