Chapter 1

My boyfriend and I were playing one of those honesty games when he suddenly claimed he made money by working as an NPC in a horror game, killing players for cash. I laughed immediately. Looking at his clear, puppy-like eyes, every blink just made me want to hug him.

A killer? Please. What kind of killer would spend every day cooking, doing laundry, handing over all his money, and constantly begging his girlfriend for cuddles? He was more like the perfect boyfriend straight out of a dating sim.

That was until one day, I found different strands of hair on him. There were long black hair, short curly blonde hair, and even coarse, short hair that clearly belonged to a man.

Enraged, I slapped him hard across the face.

“Lucas, seriously? I didn’t know you were into playing around like this.”

He covered his cheek, looking innocent as he hurried to explain, “No, babe! Those are from the players I killed!”

The excuse was so ridiculous that I packed up and stormed out that very night.

Darkness swallowed the streets as I walked alone down the empty road. Tears blurred my vision, and my mind felt blank. All I could feel was the twisting pain in my chest. Then, in the distance, headlights rushed toward me. Before I could react, everything went black.

When I woke up again, thick fog surrounded me. The darkness was so dense that I couldn’t see anything clearly. Just as I wondered if I had somehow ended up in the afterlife, a cold mechanical voice echoed around me.

“Welcome, players, to the horror game, Spring Manor. You must escape within twenty-four hours. Failure to complete the mission will result in permanent confinement within the game world.

“Number of participants: 10. Difficulty: S-Rank. We wish all players an enjoyable experience.”

As soon as the voice faded, the fog slowly thinned before disappearing completely. A massive old-fashioned building appeared before us. Wildflowers grew chaotically around the entrance, each bloom as large as a human hand, its colors unnaturally vivid. Scarlet lamps hung from every floor, while an eerie blue glow seeped through the windows.

The cold wind brushed against my skin, making my scalp tingle. Suddenly, several strangers had appeared beside me. Every one of them looked confused and uneasy.

Then, a tall, heavily built man stepped forward and started cursing loudly. “Screw this! I don’t have time to play games with you freaks! Whoever dragged me here, get your *ss out right now!”

No one answered him.

“Oh, so you won’t come out? Fine. Then I’ll smash all your d*mn flowers!”

He stormed forward and stomped the flowers into pieces. At that moment, I suddenly remembered something Lucas once told me. In horror games, players who refused to participate usually died horribly. Back then, I thought he was just making up stories, but it seemed like maybe I really should’ve believed him.

“Sir, wait, don’t–”

Before I could finish my sentence, the crushed flowers suddenly regenerated. On top of that, they grew larger and larger until the enormous petals swallowed the man whole. A scream rang out, and then silence fell. All that remained on the ground were two severed limbs and a pool of blood.

Nearby, a short and skinny guy collapsed onto the floor, trembling violently. Lucas used to joke about how many people he had killed. I always thought he was kidding. Now, though… it suddenly didn’t sound so fake anymore.

I quickly warned the other players not to refuse the game. Otherwise, they’d probably end up just like the big guy.

The skinny guy looked at me desperately, his voice shaking. “Then what are we supposed to do? I don’t want to die here!”

I looked around. Beyond the endless darkness, the only thing standing before us was that ancient building. At this point, entering it was our only option.

“It looks like we have to complete the mission and find the exit within twenty-four hours if we want to survive.”

The skinny guy started crying. “I don’t want to go in there! It’s too scary! I want to go home. I want to go home!”

I sighed helplessly. “We don’t have a choice. Stop wasting time, and let’s go inside.”

Supporting him by the arm, I slowly walked toward the building. With every step forward, the cold around us became sharper.

At the same time, in a dimension unknown to the players, the livestream chat was already exploding.

“No way. Are they all newbies? This is an S-rank dungeon! Nobody’s ever made it out alive!”

“Say a prayer for these players. They’re definitely getting wiped out.”

“The boss in this dungeon is insanely twisted. The last group of players would rather commit suicide than die by his hands.”

“This is boring. A bunch of idiots challenging an S-rank dungeon? They’ll probably all die immediately. There’s no thrill at all. I’m leaving.”

“That calm girl is actually pretty cute. I kinda want to see her head get twisted off. I bet she’d look even prettier.”

“Seriously, though, she’s gorgeous. Please survive a little longer. Boss, have mercy and at least leave her body intact…”

The building began to shake violently, and out of thin air, twenty doors suddenly appeared in front of us.“The countdown begins. 59, 58, 57…”I rushed toward the doors, trying the key on each of them, one by one.“30, 29, 28, 27…”Half the time was already gone, but I had only managed to test eight doors. Sweat soaked through my clothes, and my hands wouldn’t stop trembling. The man with glasses grabbed the key from me.“I’ll do it!”He was clearly faster than I was, but he also started fumbling under pressure.“5, 4, 3…”Finally, with just five seconds left, he managed to unlock one of the doors.“1!”The top floor of the building collapsed. In that split second, my teammate yanked me through the door.I let out a breath of relief, knowing that we were safe now, or so I thought. Because in that moment, I saw Lucas standing in the distance, silently watching us. Falling debris nearly crushed him.Without hesitation, I took a deep breath and ran straight toward him, grabbi

He placed me back onto the soft bed I had been lying on earlier. I tried to get up and run, but he caught my wrist and held me in place effortlessly.“What? Are you trying to escape?”“Obviously. Or do you expect me to stay and wait for you to tear me apart?”I kicked hard toward his stomach, but he caught my leg with ease. Even as I glared at him furiously, his eyes only grew brighter.“You acting like this makes it really hard for me to hold back.”As he spoke, he buried his face against my neck, and his hot breath brushed my ear.I shoved him away hard and snapped, “You’ve definitely eaten human flesh before. Don’t ever think about kissing me again!”His expression turned innocent. “I’ve rinsed my mouth.”I stared at him in disgust and shock. “You do eat humans?”He laughed and tapped the bridge of my nose lightly. “Do you believe everything I say?”I was about to ask more, but he didn’t give me the chance. He pulled me back down and kissed me.…The comments in the live

After four hours of exhausting struggle, I finally managed to shake off the final boss. Just then, the next round of the banquet began. So, I quickly went to regroup with the others. In one of the rooms on the third floor, the skinny guy let out a long sigh. “We finally found a hidden room, but we can’t crack the lock code. With a place this big, we can’t just search it all over again.”The man with glasses also looked dejected, and the atmosphere was turning increasingly hopeless.“Maybe this password book can help.”I took out a book filled with codes. It recorded the locations of every hidden room in the old building, and even listed the traps inside in shocking detail. After flipping through it, all of them stared at me in disbelief.“Where did you get this?”“Uh… I picked it up in the attic.”In truth, I had taken it from the final boss’s inner coat. However, there was no need to explain all the details to the other players, so I told a small lie.The man with glasses was

Just as we successfully climbed onto the attic floor, a severed limb—still dripping with blood and clutching a knife—flew straight toward us. In the chaos, I caught a glimpse of a mandrake flower tattoo etched onto the arm, but something about it felt off. With no time to think, I simply ran, and somewhere in the panic, I lost the man with glasses. I didn’t even have a clue where I went, but I ended up spotting a hole in the wall. So, I crawled through and discovered an entirely different world inside. On the outside, the building was all wooden structures and beams, but inside the wall cavity, the space was built with black stone blocks. I moved forward with fear, worried about traps or monsters popping out again. After only a few steps, I reached a fork in the path. Three routes lay before me, and I could only choose one. Strangely enough, both the left and right paths had large metal warning signs planted in front of them, like those “Caution: Slippery Floor” signs you see in p

I woke up with a jolt and found myself lying on a soft bed, a thick blanket covering me. The room was warmly and romantically decorated. It was nothing like the rooms I had searched before.I was… alive, but I clearly remember being knocked unconscious by a flying head. So how did I end up here? Before I could think further, the skinny guy and the man with glasses rushed into the room.“You’re alive! That’s great!” the skinny guy exclaimed excitedly. The man with glasses also looked genuinely shocked. He muttered under his breath, “How? I clearly saw the final boss charging straight toward you just now. By all logic, you should’ve already been…” His confusion quickly turned into suspicion as he stared at me. “How are you fine?”… The livestream chat exploded again.“What! How is she still alive?”“I swear, a bunch of players have died in that room. No one ever comes out alive!”“Is she a ghost? I can’t believe my eyes.”“A newbie surviving this long in an S-rank dungeon, b

The live comments flew across the screen.“What’s going on? Why did the final boss appear so early?”“Not only did he show up early, but he didn’t even kill anyone. He let them all escape!”“Is this some kind of bug? Since when has the boss been so merciful? None of the previous players who ran into him survived longer than three seconds!”“Maybe killing too quickly got boring. He probably wants to try a new game this time. These players might end up dying worse than the others.”“The boss has such an insane presence. You can tell he’s ridiculously handsome even through the mask!”“Stop simping already. That’s a literal psychopath! He’s the cruelest and most ruthless boss in the entire game!”…Once we hid inside one of the guest rooms, everyone finally let out a breath of relief. The skinny guy looked guilty. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t hold it in back there and almost got you all killed.”I patted his shoulder to comfort him. “Horror games are a survival hell. It’s not your fau
