Chapter 9

Samantha

I'M EATING lunch with Jacob across me. He's also silently eating, and I couldn't help but to glance at him from time to time. After what happened this morning, I suddenly felt urges to trust this man in front of me, but I'm just too scared to trust another man again.

“Don't you like the food, miss Samantha?”

I blinked my eyes continuously and shook my head. “No, it's okay.”

He nodded and continued eating. I then pursed my lips before opening my lips to speak again. “What's your previous job, Jacob?”

He stilled and lifted his chin. He stared at me. “I was a photographer.”

That shocked me. “That's too far from being a bodyguard.”

He nodded. “Yeah. Actually, I applied to be a security guard in your company but Mr. Davidson gave me a different job and yeah, I became your bodyguard and maid.”

His last word made me laughed. I was enjoying my lunch with him when I suddenly realized that there might be a CCTV camera here.

I looked around. “Did you installed a CCTV here in the kitchen?”

“I didn't,” I shifted my gaze back to him as he said that. “I just put the camera around the mansion, as per Mr. Davidson's command, since he just wants to cage you inside this house.”

I nodded. “I thought you put cameras inside.”

“That's invading your privacy, miss Samantha. Mr. Davidson is too smart to do that.”

I nodded again, in agreement. He's right. Dylan probably thinks that I'd use those cameras to sue him, which is true.

“Do you mind if I ask you something?” Jacob suddenly asked.

I drank a water and shook my head. “I don't mind as long as it's not below the belt.”

“Why don't you just report him to the police?”

I shook my head again. “I thought of that, but it's too dangerous for my brother. He's still recovering from multiple surgery, I can't risk the life of the only family left to me.”

“Is he always like that to you?”

I heaved a sigh. “It became worse after he run into my ex-boyfriend.”

“Your marriage life is miserable, miss Samantha.” he commented.

I laughed without humor. “Miserable is not the right term for my marriage life, Jacob, try gruesome.”

He blew a loud breath. “You're too beautiful for this hell-like life.”

My lips parted as I stared at him. I swallowed hard. What he said made my heart pound. I don't understand. Why do I feel something in my stomach as he drowns me with his stares? Why do I feel so touched with his words?

He suddenly pulled himself up. He poured water on the empty glass in front of me before pouring on his glass. “Please eat more, miss Samantha.”

I just nodded my head and continued eating. I felt like having a hard time swallowing the food as I felt Jacob's eyes on me.

AFTER lunch, I decided to pass the time in the balcony. Jacob is doing something in the garden, and I couldn't help but to glance at him. I think he's cutting the plants to shape them.

Unconsciously, I started listing his good traits in my head. He's not just kind, he's also hardworking and gentleman.

I flinched and started shaking my head. What am I thinking? He might be just like Dylan. His mother is sick, he might be faking his traits to get into my good side, so he can use me too.

I looked down. With that thought, I suddenly felt hurt. Am I trusting another man again? How many times do I have to get my heart broken?

First, Dylan tricked me, and I learned from him that my dad who I admire the most is as evil as him.

“Miss Samantha.”

I gasped and jumped on my sit. I caressed my left chest and looked at Jacob, who's looking down at me with his deep blue eyes.

I swallowed hard. “W-What?”

“Your coffee has gone cold.”

My lips parted as I stared at the coffee. I didn't respond as he sat in front of me. He was about to speak when someone shouted my name.

“SAMANTHA!”

Slowly, I looked at the gate. I gasped. It's Lucian. What is he doing here? How did he find me?

Fear started consuming me. If Dylan found out about him finding my address, he will go berserk and will definitely dump his anger on me.

I quickly pulled myself up and turned my back on him. “Jacob, please tell him to leave and never come back again.”

I entered the mansion after I said that. Talking to Lucian will worsen everything, besides, I don't want him to get involved. He's a good friend of mine, as we agreed to be friends after we broke up.

I stayed in the kitchen while biting my lips, waiting for Jacob to follow me here, which he did after a couple of minutes. He stood by the kitchen entrance, looking at me.

I swallowed hard. “How did it go? Did he leave already?”

He nodded. “Yes, miss Samantha. Although he tried to trespass, but I stopped him in time.”

I blow a loud breath, relieved. “Don't let him near the mansion, Jacob. Dylan might see him in the CCTV camera. We will be put in danger if that happens.”

He nodded again. “I understand, miss Samantha.”

We fell in silence after that. I was expecting him to speak again, since he looked like he's ready to open his mouth again.

“Do you have more to say, Jacob?” I asked with furrowed eyebrows.

He pressed his lips together and shook his head afterwards. “None, miss Samantha. By the way, I'm going out to buy something, do you want something?”

I bit my lower lip as I stared at him. I only need one thing, and I don't know if I can trust him to keep this from my husband. Nevertheless, I did ask. “I need a birth control pills, Jacob. Can I trust you this one?”

He's quick to nod as a response. “This will be a thing between us, miss Samantha.”

I heaved a sigh after he said that. I just hope that he's telling the truth because if he betrays me, he will also crash the only chance I'm seeing.
