Ivonne's POV

My brain completely short-circuited.

“Wait—what?” I laughed, staring at the oracle in shock. “Why are you greeting the ‘Great Spirit of Ulfris’?”

For a second, no one else spoke either. Hector had gone still beside me, and even Luna Kayla’s expression had tightened slightly, like she was trying to read between the lines.

Then suddenly—

The oracle laughed.

Not a cold or eerie laugh. Just… light. Amused.

“Oh, don’t look so alarmed,” she said, waving her hand casually. “I heard about

Ivonne's POV My brain completely short-circuited.“Wait—what?” I laughed, staring at the oracle in shock. “Why are you greeting the ‘Great Spirit of Ulfris’?”For a second, no one else spoke either. Hector had gone still beside me, and even Luna Kayla’s expression had tightened slightly, like she was trying to read between the lines. Then suddenly—The oracle laughed. Not a cold or eerie laugh. Just… light. Amused.“Oh, don’t look so alarmed,” she said, waving her hand casually. “I heard about your little play. The one where you were Kael and the great spirit Ulfris. I was simply referencing that.”There was a pause.Then—“Oh.”The tension in the room broke almost instantly.Luna Kayla let out a small breath, her shoulders relaxing, and Hector chuckled under his breath.I laughed too, but mine came out a little… tight.“N–no, that makes sense,” I said quickly, pressing a hand to my chest. “You just… caught me off guard.”The oracle smiled knowingly, like she could see right through

Ivonne's POV No one slept that night. Not after what we saw.The image of that monstrous creature—its twisted body, its hollow eyes, the way it looked even in death—kept replaying in my mind over and over again like something I couldn’t escape from. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw it again, felt its presence again, that suffocating darkness that had filled the room when it attacked Denise.A night devourer... that's what Luna Kayla said it was.Even now, I still couldn’t fully accept it.It didn’t make any sense. Those creatures were supposed to be gone—wiped out, destroyed, erased from existence after nearly driving our ancestors to extinction. They weren’t just monsters; they were nightmares made real, the kind of things people only whispered about in old stories meant to scare children. And yet… I had seen one.Not just seen it.I had killed it.I let out a slow breath and stared blankly at the window as the early light of dawn began to creep into the room.Luna Kayla hadn’t h

Ivonne's PovPeople are scared,” Leo finally said. “And fear makes the people easy to manipulate, easy to turn against us.”I clenched my fists.“This is exactly what Marcellus wants,” I muttered. “Chaos. Doubt and Division. Do you think he is behind this?”Leo shakes his head. “I highly doubt it. Some of the missing girls are daughters of Elders Marcellus would never ever mess with. Plus he is too much of a coward to pull off something this daring. And if by an unlikely chance he is trying to get a reaction from us, then we can’t give it to him so we must remain calm,” Leo said.I exhaled slowly, forcing myself to calm down.“You’re right.”Still… it didn’t make it any less infuriating. To make things worse, by nightfall, Hector still hadn’t returned. The sun had long set, and the darkness outside only made everything feel worse. It had been a full day since he left. A full day without any word.I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands clasped tightly together.“Please come back alread

Ivonne's POV For a moment after Sevin’s words, everything inside me just… stopped. It didn’t make sense. “They took… fourteen girls?” I finally managed to say, my voice coming out quieter than I expected, like my mind was still trying to catch up with the reality of what he had just told us. Sevrin nodded grimly, and somehow that made it worse. Fourteen. Not one. Not two. Fourteen noble and foreign alpha daughters had been taken right under our noses. “How?” I asked, the word slipping out before I could stop it. “How is that even possible? The guards have been on high alert since the festival started. The borders were reinforced. Patrols were doubled. So how—” My voice broke slightly, and I hated that it did. Hector, on the other hand, didn’t look confused. He looked furious. A cold, dangerous kind of fury that made the air around him feel heavier. “We must find them,” he said sharply. “Now.” Sevrin straightened immediately. “I’ve already gathered men. The search partie

Ivonne's POV Walking into the council hall felt like stepping straight into a battlefield. My fingers tightened slightly around Hector’s hand as the heavy doors were pushed open, revealing the large hall beyond. The council members and elders were already seated in their usual arrangement, their expressions unreadable, their presence heavy with authority and expectation.I braced myself.I fully expected the moment we stepped in to be met with criticism, accusations, or at the very least, disapproving stares. So when every single person in the hall suddenly stood up at once—I froze. And then, in perfect unison, they all bowed to us Deeply. My eyes widened in shock. For a second, I genuinely thought I had walked into the wrong room.“What…?” I whispered under my breath.Hector leaned slightly closer to me, his voice low enough that only I could hear.“It's just Custom,” he murmured. “They’re acknowledging us as Alpha and Luna.”I blinked, still processing the sight of an entire counc

Ivonne's POVI was still staring at Luna Kayla in shock as her eyes continued to glow. Not the faint golden shimmer that Lycans sometimes had when their wolves stirred close to the surface.No.This was different. Her eyes were shining with a bright, almost blinding gold, like molten sunlight trapped behind her pupils.I froze.“Kayla?” I said slowly. She didn’t respond. Her gaze remained locked on my face, but it felt like she wasn’t actually seeing me.“Kayla?” I tried again, stepping closer and gently tapping her arm. That was when the realization hit me.She had entered a trance. My mind immediately flew back to something I had been told when I visited the southern pack. Alpha Adrian, Lady Catherine, and several others had spoken about Luna Kayla with a kind of reverence that I hadn’t fully understood at the time. They had explained that she was… different.Special.Her bloodline descended from a rare mixture of Lycan and ancient Valkyrie women, which gave the women in her family

I took a deep breath, squaring my shoulders. There was no way I was going to let these women intimidate me. No matter how hostile they were or how much they already seemed to hate me, I wouldn’t back down. Not today, not ever.“Hello,” I said, stepping forward with a polite smile. “I’m Tamara, and I’

After the picnic, as I sat with Dante under the shade of a large oak tree, I almost forgot why I was uneasy. But then, the nagging thought that had been at the back of my mind all day resurfaced. I had to ask. “So, you have not really spoken to me about your first fated mate,” I said as casually
