Chapter 5

Author: Flying Saltfish
Vincent's eyes widened in horror. He stared at the face inches away from his own, unable to believe what was happening.

It wasn't until he could feel Samara's breath washing over his lips that he snapped back to his senses and fought back with all his might. Without hesitation, he pushed away the woman who was pressing herself against him.

Had she lost her mind?

Vincent was completely thunderstruck. The fury at having been harassed like that burned within him.

Samara could sense his strong resistance, and her expression darkened at once. Without warning, she shoved him in the shoulder, her eyes flickering with shock and displeasure.

For a moment, Vincent's breath faltered. He even got the feeling that she'd kill him. But before the fear had even receded, she leaned in once more. This time, she planted a soft, gentle kiss on his lips.

Her lips seemed to convey a sense of tender longing and cherished affection, but the sensation only made his stomach churn.

Once again, he fought hard to get her away from him. His eyes slowly filled with anger and fear. He couldn't stop himself from snarling, "Get away from me!"

Samara froze immediately. A flicker of clarity returned to her eyes. Only now did she realize that the man in front of her was already glaring at her, his eyes reddened with fury. His entire body was shaking from anger.

At last, it occurred to her just how far she'd crossed the line with what she'd just done to him.

Vincent wasn't her husband right now. It was only the second time they'd met. How could she have acted so rashly, forcing herself on him so recklessly?

She hurriedly pushed herself upright, awkwardly straightening his shirt for him before resting her head against his chest. She traced small circles against his chest with her finger, like a young woman in love, but her words were harsh and overbearing.

"I forbid you from leaving!"

She refused to let Vincent leave. She wasn't going to let him disappear from her world.

Samara couldn't bear the pain of losing him again. It was pure agony, as if blades were carving right into her bones, making it hard for her to even breathe.

Vincent sucked in a sharp breath before glaring at Samara, his eyes filled with anger and confusion.

It was getting increasingly hard for him to understand the Samara in this life. She was acting like a complete lunatic, leaving him at once perplexed and terrified.

Samara kept holding onto Vincent throughout the whole ride. Eventually, the car came to a stop outside a restaurant, and his emotions had settled down as well. He glanced down at her and said in a firm voice, "I want to go home."

He wanted to leave. He had no desire to have dinner with a woman who looked like she'd go off her rocker at any moment, nor did he want any further involvement with her.

But of course, Samara simply responded with an indifferent dismissal, denying him the right to choose where to go. "I'll take you home after dinner."

Her tone left no room for refusal, as if her word was law.

Unsurprisingly, she was just the same as she had been in his previous life. She would never listen to his opinion and would make decisions for him unilaterally.

Vincent was brimming with frustration and anger. He felt like a puppet, unable to take charge of his own life.

Meanwhile, Samara opened the door and forcibly dragged him out of the car with her.

"Just what the hell do you want?" Vincent snapped.

He was beside himself with frustration. Since they were still pretty near the university, he didn't want anyone to see him involved with some crazy woman.

"Let go! I can walk on my own."

Vincent struggled to free himself from Samara's grip, but she acted as if she hadn't heard him, hauling him into a private room in the restaurant herself.

She'd made a reservation beforehand, and the food was served within minutes of them taking their seats.

Everything that was brought to the table was one of Vincent's favorites. He stared at the food in silence, pondering the situation on the inside. He and Samara had only just met in this lifetime, so how did she know about his preferences?

If this wasn't a coincidence, then it felt downright unsettling.

The more he thought about it, the stranger Samara's change in attitude seemed to him. In fact, it wasn't just strange. There had to be more to it, something that he couldn't quite perceive.

Vincent eyed Samara, his gaze curious and scrutinizing.

He wanted to know why she was acting completely opposite from the woman he remembered from his previous life. He also wanted to find out her motive. Just what was she trying to achieve?

However, just as he pulled them open…"Aargh!" Vincent couldn't help yelling in fright at what he saw. There, on the living room sofa, Calliope had been sitting alone in the dark, completely silent.Vincent stepped backward involuntarily. When he saw that it was Calliope, he put a hand to his heart and asked shakily, "What are you doing here? You didn't even pull the curtains open…"As he spoke, Vincent walked over to her. However, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. "What happened, Calliope?" He was staring at her hand, which was hanging limp. Shock and worry filled his eyes.In the dim light, he could see a horrible wound across the palm of her hand. There were tiny shards of glass embedded in it, and the blood had scabbed in patches. It was a gruesome sight. At that moment, Vincent noticed that apart from her injured hand, the floor was a total mess and was covered with glass shards. His heart jolted violently. Just as he was about to say something, Calliope slowly raised

Vincent had no idea what was going on with Calliope. He finished showering and walked out of the bathroom to find Hayden lying meekly in bed. Hayden's eyes were bright and full of energy.Vincent walked over to the bed and pulled his precious son into his arms as he asked softly, "Don't you want to sleep yet?""Tell me a story, Daddy!" As Hayden spoke, he held out the storybook he had gotten in advance, his eyes filled with anticipation. Vincent's lips curved into a fond smile. He took the book and began reading the story out loud. However, Hayden's eyelids began drooping before the story even finished. He began looking bleary-eyed.It wasn't surprising. Hayden had been on a flight that day and had also been busy trying to help Marisol get rid of her rival. He was certainly tired out. Before long, he began drifting off to sleep. He felt warm and toasty next to Vincent. Still half-awake, he snuggled closer next to Vincent, finding a more comfortable position, and fell fast asle

With that thought in his mind, Hayden turned off the phone, humming as he said to himself, "Ha! We'll see how you can find Daddy now!"Meanwhile, Calliope had just hung up and was sitting alone on the sofa. On the coffee table in front of her were the remains of a glass, which she had crushed when she lost control of her emotions earlier. There were glass shards scattered everywhere, and a sharp piece of broken glass had pierced her palm. Bright red blood was oozing out, and it dripped between her fingers and onto the floor. However, Calliope didn't seem to feel anything. Her hand just hung limply off the edge of the sofa. The voice of the child on the phone earlier echoed in her mind on an endless loop. She had never in her wildest dreams imagined that a child would answer her call for Vincent. Not only had the child called Marisol "Mommy", but he had also called Vincent "Daddy". Once those words settled in Calliope's mind, a suffocating feeling washed over her, threatening

After Vincent finished bathing Hayden, he carried him back to the bedroom. After getting Hayden ready for bed, he wrapped the little boy in a soft, furry blanket and said gently, "I'm going to have a shower. Be good and wait here for me."Hayden nodded vigorously with a bright grin on his face. He said, "I promise that I won't fall asleep. I'm going to wait for you to tell me a bedtime story!"Vincent smiled and ruffled his hair, then turned around and walked into the bathroom. After Vincent left, Hayden immediately scrambled out of bed and ran off excitedly to pick out a storybook. It had been a long time since Vincent had read him a story. Hayden had carefully built up a collection of interesting stories, and he was looking forward to hearing Vincent read them to him. However, before he had chosen a book, Vincent's phone suddenly began vibrating on the bedside table. Hayden stopped and turned to look at the phone. After a moment's hesitation, he tottered over to the bedsid

After they had eaten, Marisol volunteered to help the housekeeper clean up.Later, Marisol suddenly asked, "Have you told Calliope about Hayden yet?"Vincent shook his head and replied, "Not yet.""When are you planning to tell her?""Within the next few days, I guess. After all, Hayden's back. I can't keep hiding it from her.""Vincent, do you think she can accept Hayden?"Vincent paused in the middle of what he was doing, then laughed bitterly and said, "Who knows? If she can accept him, that would be great. If she can't, I won't blame her for it."After all, the man she loved was a divorcee, and now a child had popped up out of nowhere. No woman would be able to accept something like that easily. Marisol said nothing. Samara had passed away, so technically she had no reason to doubt Calliope's identity. However, she had a hunch that things weren't that simple. She just wasn't planning to mention her theories to Vincent. After all, Vincent wholeheartedly trusted that woma
