Chapter 2

Author: Teresa
After a week in the pack infirmary, I finally recovered. Sebastian never came to see me. It was as though he'd vanished off the face of the earth.

I'd told Gareth, my brother, to pick me up in a few days, so I had to go home to pack my bags. A few wolves scampered past me, and I tuned in to their conversation.

"I heard Nina's back from treatment. Alpha's setting up a welcome party for her at home."

"We've got to head over quickly."

My heart squeezed painfully. I could see it in my head. Sebastian would use his "results" from torturing me to garner Nina's favor.

I wanted nothing more than to leave. To avoid them, I sneaked in through the back door.

Just as I stepped across the threshold, I heard someone say, "Zoreen?"

It was Nina. I'd tried to escape her, but I guess our meeting was inevitable.

Turning around, I was met with the sight of Nina and Sebastian standing at the top of the stairs.

In contrast with how I was riddled with scars, Nina seemed like she was glowing, looking the part of a real Luna.

Sebastian's brows were furrowed. Evidently, I was not welcome. However, he put on a warm front and said, "You were so badly injured that our mind link broke. I was going to ask you to come home for the party."

Nodding calmly, I replied, "No worries. You guys go ahead with the celebration. I just got back to get some of my things."

I made no fuss about it and seemed completely unbothered. This surprised him. His frown deepened.

"Zoreen," said Nina. She stepped forward and took my hand before continuing warmly, "Although you caused me to lose my voice five years ago, I've forgiven you. Come and have fun at the party."

However, her voice was intentionally hoarse to make herself seem more pitiful, reminding everyone that she'd lost her voice.

As expected, Sebastian's expression changed immediately. He grabbed my wrist and yanked me into the room. "Stop being dumb! Nina wants you at the party. Do as she says!"

Just as I stumbled in, Murphy and Nina's friends swarmed over.

They hollered, "Zoreen, come play some games with us!"

Nina narrowed her eyes like a sly little fox. She said to Sebastian, "I had some cake and now my throat feels a little tight. Darling, could you go upstairs and get me some medication?"

Naturally, Sebastian agreed immediately.

Nina's warm expression instantly disappeared when Sebastian left. Smirking mockingly, she quipped, "I heard you sacrificed your wolf. Are you able to go about life normally now? Are you even a real wolf?"

Pointing at the corner, where a silver platform was temporarily situated, she said, "Sebastian wouldn't want a useless Luna. That platform would prove you're still somewhat of a real wolf, Zoreen."

I interrupted, "I don't need to prove anything to anyone." I turned to leave.

However, Nina and another strong wolf pushed me onto the silver platform. A ring of fire ignited around the stage. The platform seared my feet, causing me agonising pain.

Just as I was about to step away, I tripped and fell on the platform. The silver ate into my wounds as my flesh sizzled.

Lying flat on the floor, I moaned in pain while laughter erupted around me. Nina was cackling so hard she could hardly stand up straight. Her eyes sparkled with glee.

The bottoms of my feet were charred. I couldn't stand up at all. Holding in my pain and anger, I climbed off the platform and left.

"Zoreen's mad! Quick, someone send her off to get some 'rest'!"

They lifted me up and threw me into a dark basement, slamming the door as they left. I was enveloped in complete darkness. In the emptiness, I could hear mice skittering across the ground.

Terror washed over me. I trembled, cold sweat trickling down my back.

In the past, my wolf would have kept me company and infused me with courage. After its death, I was left alone.

Rather than the pain silver caused, it was my fear of the dark and tight spaces that truly scared me.

Memories of those rogues accosted me. I only realized afterward it was a trap set by Sebastian. He locked me in a pitch black basement for three days. From that day onward, the darkness was my most feared monster.

"Let me out!" I banged desperately at the door. My nails nearly broke from the effort.

No one replied. Every breath seemed to fill my lungs with concrete. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, the door was flung open. Sebastian rushed in and carried me out.

He roared at the crowd, "Shit! What have you done to her?"

Sebastian held me against him tightly while caressing my face. He comforted me softly, saying, "Darling, it's alright. I'm here."

"I'm fine." I pushed his hand away and stood up.

Ignoring his outstretched hand and incredulous stare, I straightened up and left without a backward glance.

  • A Mate Forever Lost   Chapter 8

News of Nina's attempt at murdering me with the silver dagger spread like wildfire. Gareth was scared she'd try again, so he was insistent on making sure I stayed within the Ice Pack's territory. I temporarily put my work aside. Instead, I spent my days reading. I even began writing novels. Much to my surprise, many people enjoyed reading them. My days were busy but satisfying. I thought things with Sebastian had ended until a foreign number called me. It was Annabelle, the Fire Pack's witch and one of Sebastian's trusted cronies. When I'd first arrived at their pack, she'd made life difficult for me at every turn. The evil plan of making me sacrifice my wolf was her idea. However, she put on a pitiful front on the phone. "Ms. Zoreen … Can you come back to visit Alpha Sebastian? Ever since you left, it was as though his soul had left with you. Even when rogues attacked us, he didn't give a damn … Our pack won't survive without him!"The wound from the silver dagger was left fo

Sebastian roared my name and lunged toward me, cradling me in his arms. Then, I heard the horrifying sound of sizzling flesh. Nina's dagger had stabbed into his lower back. The crowd shrieked in terror. Nina paled as she shuffled backward. "No … Sebastian! I never wanted to hurt you! It's all Zoreen's fault! Everything will go back to normal as long as I kill her!" Through the blinding pain, Sebastian yelled, "Guards!"His protection detail snapped back to reality from their trance and rushed forward to disarm Nina and capture her. Sebastian questioned, "Why's she here?" "It … It was Beta Murphy. He thought Nina was too pitiful and let her out to get some air, only for her to escape." Sebastian was about to reply, but he succumbed to the pain and collapsed before saying anything. The guards hurriedly carried him off to get treated. The elders of the Flame Pack invited me to pack territory to sign the contracts finalizing our collaboration. I had no choice but to follow

At the same time, I arrived at Gareth's territory and finally met with him. We hadn't seen each other in ages.He hugged me excitedly. "Zoreen, you're finally back! From today onward, we'll live out a fulfilling life together." I nuzzled into him, enjoying his steady warmth. Gareth was my only living relative. Five years ago, I was imprisoned in a dark basement for three days. Out of guilt, Gareth agreed to let me head to the Flame Pack on my own to seek Sebastian out. In the years that we'd been separated, Gareth had never stopped working hard at strengthening himself so that one day he'd be able to protect me from anything. He'd succeeded—his pack, the Ice Pack, was the strongest of all packs! In his care, I recovered quickly. Gradually, I came to understand that I should have lived for myself and done things that brought me joy rather than only playing the role of someone's lover or Luna. After a while, I began handling some of Gareth's pack affairs. As an avid reader

Sebastian turned to his Gamma, Pierce Holmes, and ordered coldly, "Inform the pack that I'll be holding the Luna Ritual for Zoreen even though she has passed. She will be the real Luna, and the only one I'll ever have. Those who refuse to show up will be exiled from the pack!" Nina stared at him in disbelief. She surged toward him and grabbed his arm, screaming, "Sebastian, are you out of your mind? How could Zoreen be your Luna? You said I was the one you loved, not to mention the fact that she's dead. How could this be possible?" Shrugging her off, Sebastian replied, "I promised Zoreen the Luna Ritual. What's the issue here?" Nina's heart sank to the bottom of her stomach. Defaulting to her old tactics, Nina made her voice whispery and painfully hoarse as she said, "Sebastian, you can't do this to me! Oh, my throat, it hurts! I can't speak…" Grabbing her throat, she continued, "Quick, get me a doctor!" This used to be a foolproof tactic. However, it failed this time. Seba

With their mouths hanging open, everyone was frozen as they stared at the scene unfolding before them."Zoreen!" Sebastian was the first one who rushed forward. He had been hiding in some bushes. There were scratches on his face and arms from brushing against thorns. However, he seemed to feel nothing. Kneeling beside the pool of blood, he saw nothing but a heap of flesh. "No…" Sebastian shook his head frantically as he stumbled backward. "Sebastian…" Murphy came forward. Grabbing his collar, Sebastian yelled, "Get Annabelle over here right now!" She arrived within minutes. Annabelle circled the pool of blood before shaking her head regretfully. "Alpha, she cannot be saved." "No way!" Sebastian roared stubbornly, "You can bring a werewolf back to life! Revive her wolf. I'll do anything…" "It's no use, Alpha," interrupted Annabelle. "Have you forgotten? Her wolf … has been sacrificed." Sebastian broke down completely. Finally, he grasped the fact that he had lost me f

I walked down the stairs, packed bags in hand, just in time to hear Sebastian's conversation with Murphy. "Sebastian," started Murphy in confusion. "Weren't you the one who told us to teach her a lesson? Why did you stop us?" Sebastian's brows were deeply furrowed. "It would've been fine if you had been joking around, but you guys know that Zoreen is terrified of tight spaces. Why do something like that?" Murphy chuckled dismissively. "That's what makes our revenge worthwhile! Also, why do you even care about Zoreen's thoughts?" Eyeing Nina, he said, "Nina's back anyway." "Yeah," someone added. "In the past, you've made us do much worse things to her. What's this in the grand scheme of things?" Suddenly, Sebastian flew into a rage and kicked a nearby table. "She no longer has her wolf! She has no healing powers! What if her wounds reopen?" Nina put on a pitiful expression. Suppressing her anger, she asked, "H–Have you had a change of heart? Have you fallen for her?" "No!"
