Chapter 1

My Alpha, Sebastian Blackwood, was cursed in battle. Following the instructions of the witch, Annabelle Pearson, I sacrificed my wolf for an antidote to his curse.

I only found out after secretly eavesdropping on him at a party that he'd spent five whole years torturing me—just to avenge his first love. Yet, I had already given my wolf up for him.

Standing at the door, I glared at Sebastian. He'd lied to me! The curse never existed in the first place!

My heart seized in pain. The sensation nearly knocked me off my feet.

Inside the room, they continued, "Poor, stupid Zoreen. She's been kept in the dark for ages. Those rogues who nearly raped her? That was all part of your master plan, Alpha! You played the role of her knight in shining armor.

"Then, you commanded the pack to cast her out, leaving her with no one and nowhere to turn to. In her desperation, she latched onto you with all her might. As her mate, you 'trained' her by making her do all the hardest and dirtiest work possible. She must have felt as though her hands were about to fall off!

"Five years of abuse, of getting everything she had, robbed from her… If Nina knew of the lengths you'd gone to for revenge, she would be deeply moved."

A bout of nausea overcame me. I wanted to throw up.

Everything had been a lie. From the moment we met, Sebastian's goal had been to exact revenge on me.

Funnily enough, I had thought he was my savior when he saved me from those rogues. Despite knowing he still longed for Nina, his first love, I willingly sacrificed everything for him. Yet, he'd never tried to find out the truth.

Nina Frost's mutism? It had nothing to do with me.

I turned and attempted to flee the scene. However, due to the severity of my injuries, I collapsed instead. This drew their attention.

"Zoreen? What's wrong?" Sebastian rushed out and gathered me into his arms.

With an expression of pretended concern, he exclaimed, "You just sacrificed your wolf for me, so don't move! Quick, someone get Annabelle right now!"

If I hadn't heard the truth for myself, I might have believed that he loved me.

Caressing my wounds, Sebastian asked, "This must've hurt, right?"

Suddenly, a blinding pain erupted from where he'd made contact with my skin. I screamed. It was a horrible, screeching sound.

"Oh! My apologies, darling." Sebastian withdrew his hand, an apologetic expression on his face. However, I saw the glee that sparked in his eyes for a moment.

"I only wanted to help. I didn't mean to hurt you."

I shoved Sebastian, only for him to grab my wrist, clamping down forcefully.

Surprise flashed across his face. "Wait … Is this? It seems like there's still a bit of your wolf in you."

The pain had awakened my wolf, making it exert the last of its powers. However, any hope I had was short-lived as Sebastian returned soon after, Annabelle at his side.

He told her, "Her wolf lives on. Complete the sacrifice by killing it entirely."

"No!" I widened my eyes in terror.

Annabelle splashed some transparent liquid onto my open wound. It felt as though I was on fire, my flesh corroding and bones cracking apart. My screams pierced through the air. I nearly fainted from the agony.

It was over. My wolf was entirely gone.

Sebastian knelt down and kissed my forehead gently. "I know it's painful, darling. But thank you. You've broken my 'curse.' I'll love you eternally."

I gazed up at him in silence, incapable of words. I was in pieces.

Even as Annabelle dragged me away, I could still hear Sebastian's cackles.

"Did you hear that? I heard that killing off the last remnants of her wolf would cause her ten times more pain than she's already enduring."

Murphy West, Sebastian's Beta, added, "Did you see her? She was writhing on the ground like a worm. Ha!"

Their words cut deeper than any wound. It hurt more than the death of my wolf.

Then, Annabelle threw me into a pitch black room. I was alone.

Trembling, I sat up and fumbled for my phone. I dialed a number that I hadn't called for years.

"Gareth, I've made my choice. I want to go home."

News of Nina's attempt at murdering me with the silver dagger spread like wildfire. Gareth was scared she'd try again, so he was insistent on making sure I stayed within the Ice Pack's territory. I temporarily put my work aside. Instead, I spent my days reading. I even began writing novels. Much to my surprise, many people enjoyed reading them. My days were busy but satisfying. I thought things with Sebastian had ended until a foreign number called me. It was Annabelle, the Fire Pack's witch and one of Sebastian's trusted cronies. When I'd first arrived at their pack, she'd made life difficult for me at every turn. The evil plan of making me sacrifice my wolf was her idea. However, she put on a pitiful front on the phone. "Ms. Zoreen … Can you come back to visit Alpha Sebastian? Ever since you left, it was as though his soul had left with you. Even when rogues attacked us, he didn't give a damn … Our pack won't survive without him!"The wound from the silver dagger was left fo

Sebastian roared my name and lunged toward me, cradling me in his arms. Then, I heard the horrifying sound of sizzling flesh. Nina's dagger had stabbed into his lower back. The crowd shrieked in terror. Nina paled as she shuffled backward. "No … Sebastian! I never wanted to hurt you! It's all Zoreen's fault! Everything will go back to normal as long as I kill her!" Through the blinding pain, Sebastian yelled, "Guards!"His protection detail snapped back to reality from their trance and rushed forward to disarm Nina and capture her. Sebastian questioned, "Why's she here?" "It … It was Beta Murphy. He thought Nina was too pitiful and let her out to get some air, only for her to escape." Sebastian was about to reply, but he succumbed to the pain and collapsed before saying anything. The guards hurriedly carried him off to get treated. The elders of the Flame Pack invited me to pack territory to sign the contracts finalizing our collaboration. I had no choice but to follow

At the same time, I arrived at Gareth's territory and finally met with him. We hadn't seen each other in ages.He hugged me excitedly. "Zoreen, you're finally back! From today onward, we'll live out a fulfilling life together." I nuzzled into him, enjoying his steady warmth. Gareth was my only living relative. Five years ago, I was imprisoned in a dark basement for three days. Out of guilt, Gareth agreed to let me head to the Flame Pack on my own to seek Sebastian out. In the years that we'd been separated, Gareth had never stopped working hard at strengthening himself so that one day he'd be able to protect me from anything. He'd succeeded—his pack, the Ice Pack, was the strongest of all packs! In his care, I recovered quickly. Gradually, I came to understand that I should have lived for myself and done things that brought me joy rather than only playing the role of someone's lover or Luna. After a while, I began handling some of Gareth's pack affairs. As an avid reader

Sebastian turned to his Gamma, Pierce Holmes, and ordered coldly, "Inform the pack that I'll be holding the Luna Ritual for Zoreen even though she has passed. She will be the real Luna, and the only one I'll ever have. Those who refuse to show up will be exiled from the pack!" Nina stared at him in disbelief. She surged toward him and grabbed his arm, screaming, "Sebastian, are you out of your mind? How could Zoreen be your Luna? You said I was the one you loved, not to mention the fact that she's dead. How could this be possible?" Shrugging her off, Sebastian replied, "I promised Zoreen the Luna Ritual. What's the issue here?" Nina's heart sank to the bottom of her stomach. Defaulting to her old tactics, Nina made her voice whispery and painfully hoarse as she said, "Sebastian, you can't do this to me! Oh, my throat, it hurts! I can't speak…" Grabbing her throat, she continued, "Quick, get me a doctor!" This used to be a foolproof tactic. However, it failed this time. Seba

With their mouths hanging open, everyone was frozen as they stared at the scene unfolding before them."Zoreen!" Sebastian was the first one who rushed forward. He had been hiding in some bushes. There were scratches on his face and arms from brushing against thorns. However, he seemed to feel nothing. Kneeling beside the pool of blood, he saw nothing but a heap of flesh. "No…" Sebastian shook his head frantically as he stumbled backward. "Sebastian…" Murphy came forward. Grabbing his collar, Sebastian yelled, "Get Annabelle over here right now!" She arrived within minutes. Annabelle circled the pool of blood before shaking her head regretfully. "Alpha, she cannot be saved." "No way!" Sebastian roared stubbornly, "You can bring a werewolf back to life! Revive her wolf. I'll do anything…" "It's no use, Alpha," interrupted Annabelle. "Have you forgotten? Her wolf … has been sacrificed." Sebastian broke down completely. Finally, he grasped the fact that he had lost me f

I walked down the stairs, packed bags in hand, just in time to hear Sebastian's conversation with Murphy. "Sebastian," started Murphy in confusion. "Weren't you the one who told us to teach her a lesson? Why did you stop us?" Sebastian's brows were deeply furrowed. "It would've been fine if you had been joking around, but you guys know that Zoreen is terrified of tight spaces. Why do something like that?" Murphy chuckled dismissively. "That's what makes our revenge worthwhile! Also, why do you even care about Zoreen's thoughts?" Eyeing Nina, he said, "Nina's back anyway." "Yeah," someone added. "In the past, you've made us do much worse things to her. What's this in the grand scheme of things?" Suddenly, Sebastian flew into a rage and kicked a nearby table. "She no longer has her wolf! She has no healing powers! What if her wounds reopen?" Nina put on a pitiful expression. Suppressing her anger, she asked, "H–Have you had a change of heart? Have you fallen for her?" "No!"
