Chapter 1

Author: White Ivy
The moment I tapped Send, the screen froze.

Then a new message appeared.

“Linda at Eighteen: Who are you? Michael just gave me an engagement ring.”

My eyes widened.

My heart gave a violent lurch.

This cloud journal’s servers hadn’t even existed ten years ago.

How could my eighteen-year-old self be replying to me in real time?

Before I could figure out what was happening, the bedroom door flew open.

The sharp stench of cheap perfume filled the room.

Michael walked in with his arm around his intern, Chloe Spencer.

She was wearing my silk nightgown.

Leaning against his chest, she stared at my feet.

“Michael, Linda’s feet look terrifying.”

Michael frowned in disgust.

“Then don’t look. You’ll lose your appetite.”

I gripped the old tablet tightly.

“This is my room.”

Michael scoffed.

“This entire villa belongs to me. So do you.

“If you don’t like it, get out.”

I pointed at the pregnancy test lying on the floor, its two red lines clearly visible.

“Clean up your trash.”

Chloe immediately ducked behind Michael.

“Please don’t be mad at Michael, Linda.

“This is all my fault. I forgot to take my pill last night.

“But the baby’s innocent.”

The same tired innocent act.

My stomach turned as I looked Michael in the eye.

“You’re really planning to bring your mistress’s baby into this family?”

Michael let go of Chloe and strode over to me.

Then he brought his expensive leather shoe down on my right foot.

Right where he’d shattered it three years ago.

The bones had long since healed crooked.

“Shut up.

“Chloe’s only twenty. She’s at the perfect age to have children.

“Look at you. You can’t even stand.”

Agony tore through my foot and shot straight to my head.

Cold sweat beaded across my forehead.

Three years ago, all I’d done was secretly apply for a job as a dance instructor.

When Michael found out, he flew into a rage and smashed both my legs with a golf club.

He said he was the only person I needed in my life.

But he hadn’t always been like this.

Ten years ago, I’d sprained my ankle during dance practice.

Michael had carried me three miles to the hospital on his back.

Outside the emergency room, he’d sworn through tear-filled eyes that he would never let anyone hurt me.

Now he was the one who had hurt me most.

“Get your foot off me.”

I forced the words through clenched teeth.

Instead of moving, Michael pressed down even harder.

Chloe covered her mouth and giggled.

“Michael, you’re so mean.

“Linda’s already crippled. Don’t pick on her.”

She walked over and bent down to retrieve the pregnancy test.

Then she deliberately placed it on the armrest of my wheelchair.

“Give us your blessing, Linda.

“Once the baby’s born, I’ll teach them to call you Auntie Linda.”

I knocked the pregnancy test away with one hand.

The plastic stick struck Chloe’s calf.

“Ah!”

She screamed and dropped to the floor, clutching her flat stomach with both hands.

“It hurts. My stomach hurts.”

Memories flashed through my mind.At eighteen, I’d risked everything for love.I’d abandoned my dreams for a cheating bastard.I’d spent four years imprisoned in that villa, relying on my journal to keep myself from falling apart. In the end, there was only one answer.“Myself.”Trent seemed to understand my silence. He took my wrist, pulled me into his arms, and held me tightly.“From now on, let us protect you. You’ll never have to hurt yourself trying to please anyone again.”His warmth seeped through his thin shirt and slowly chased the chill from my body.I looked up into his eyes. There was nothing but fierce determination and passion in them.No pity.No sympathy. It was as though his only purpose was to see one person shine.Outside, the driver had already started the engine and was waiting in the darkness. The butler carefully loaded the luggage.Everything was ready.I drew a deep breath and clutched the ballet shoes tightly. Then I said one final goodbye t

I stared at the ballet shoes in Trent’s hands, my heart pounding so hard it felt ready to burst.Everyone was watching me, waiting for my response.Michael lay crumpled on the floor, his face bloody and filled with despair. His lips trembled.“Linda, you can’t leave. You have to save me.”He crawled over and wrapped both arms around my ankle, tears and snot covering his face.“Linda, I was wrong! We can start over, okay? Please don’t abandon me!”Two bodyguards were still restraining Chloe. She was sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.“Please let us go, Linda! I’m begging you! I don’t want anything anymore!”Trent rose to his feet and held the ballet shoes out to me.“It’s time to take the stage, Ms. Markers.”His voice was quiet, but it left no room for argument.Police sirens sounded outside. One police car after another pulled up outside the courtyard. The bodyguards stepped aside, allowing a female officer in uniform to enter. She looked at Michael and Chloe.

Michael’s kick struck Chloe squarely in the stomach. She clutched her abdomen as blood immediately poured down her legs.Writhing in pain, she rolled across the glass-covered floor. This was exactly what that cheating bastard and his mistress deserved. They’d turned on each other, proving they were both rotten to the core.I watched the farce unfold without the slightest emotion.Scum like them weren’t even worth my anger.I turned toward the door, ready to leave this filthy place behind. But the bald man stepped in front of me.“Stop right there!“You’re his wife, aren’t you? Then you’re responsible for his debt too!”He reached for my shoulder with one tattoo-covered hand.Just before he could touch me, the synchronized sound of footsteps came from outside.A black Rolls-Royce Phantom with a rare repeating-digit license plate pulled smoothly into the courtyard. The doors opened.Dozens of elite bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses rushed inside.Within seconds, th

The blue screen floating in the air began flickering violently.“Progress: 100%. Memories from the parallel timeline have fully replaced the current reality.”The shattered tablet projected a crystal-clear holographic recording. It showed Charles de Gaulle Airport ten years ago.At eighteen, I hadn’t torn up my ticket.Dragging my suitcase behind me, I walked through the international departure gate without looking back. The scene changed. The magnificent stage of the Paris Opera House appeared.Dressed in the White Swan’s pure white tutu, I performed a flawless series of fouetté turns beneath the spotlight. The entire audience rose to its feet in applause.A breaking news headline appeared across the screen.“Ballet Prodigy Linda Markers Wins the World’s Highest Ballet Honor, Net Worth Soars Past Ten Billion Dollars!”In the corner, a smaller news ticker displayed another headline.“University Dropout Michael Grant Borrows Eighty Million Dollars After Failed Startup, Blac

The blue light stabbed into everyone’s eyes.I instinctively squeezed mine shut. When I opened them again, a holographic countdown was floating in the air.“Progress: 10%. Physical reality is being reconstructed.”Michael’s million-dollar bespoke suit began fading and thinning before our eyes. The fabric unraveled thread by thread.Within seconds, it had turned into a cheap thirty-dollar polyester shirt. The enormous diamond necklace around Chloe’s neck transformed into a string of plastic beads. It hit the floor with a clatter and broke into several pieces.“Ah! What happened to my designer dress? Why is it falling apart?”Chloe screamed and desperately covered her exposed chest.Michael stared in disbelief at his bare wrist. His multimillion-dollar Patek Philippe had vanished.“What the hell? Where’s my watch? Where’s my limited-edition watch?”That wasn’t all.The walls of the thirty-thousand-square-foot mansion began peeling away in huge chunks. The expensive leathe

The bedroom door burst open with a deafening crash.Michael charged into the room, his eyes bloodshot. He was clutching his phone so tightly that his knuckles had turned white. The call was still connected.“Linda, what the hell did you do?”He grabbed me by the hair and dragged me up from the glass-covered floor.Agony ripped through my scalp.“Why did five billion dollars suddenly disappear from the company’s accounts?“The bank just called and said that the angel investment from ten years ago never existed!”Looking at the panic and fury on his face, I felt a rush of satisfaction. The past had really changed.I’d cut off the future he was supposed to have.“Are you scared, Michael?“You brought this on yourself.”I spat a mouthful of blood onto his expensive custom-made suit. His face twisted in disgust as he flung me aside. My body slammed into the corner of the wall.Cold sweat poured down my face from the pain, but I gritted my teeth and refused to make a sound.
