Nirvana was tired and a little bit tipsy when she parted from her friends at the gate. It had been satisfying to catch up on things after so long, but she hadn’t thought things through when she arrived at the bar because of the message she received from Leah earlier.

True, she knew that there was no way she would be in a bar with her friend and cousin and wouldn’t get drunk, which was why she didn’t bring her car. She came by bus and thought she would return the same way but it was late now and the lines along the bar had gotten creepy.

Everywhere was dark, but where she was passing was darker. Nirvana knew that she had a subtle fear of darkness; she had once been poisoned by Kaitlyn and made to stay in a dark room alone.

The pain was excruciating, but the poison wouldn’t kill her as long the time of exit was right. Nirvana had screamed and tumbled around the dark room without seeing anything, trying but failing to find an escape.

She was later taken to the hospital for treatment but

Nirvana was back. In her room, after enduring five hours in the dark room that Kaitlyn had locked her in. It was the fourth month after discovering that Nirvana had a fear of the dark, and she had dosed herself in nice doses of locked dark rooms, locked cars, sealed abandoned alleys, and any other place that could intensify her dread. Kaitlyn never did anything half-assed, even torturing her skillfully without pushing the boundary too much. Derek wasn’t home. He went on a business trip, or that was what he told her but Kaitlyn said otherwise when she shoved her into the room. Nirvana wasn’t going to let Kaitlyn sow seeds of doubts about Derek in her mind. Her boyfriend would always be there for her. The moment she listened to Kaitlyn’s demeaning words and believed it was the moment Nirvana lost the war going on. Derek had told Nirvana in detail about the things that Kaitlyn did to separate Nirvana from her family and make them disown her, Derek was all she had and the only thing

Nirvana wasn’t very confident that she could go through three consecutive nights while fully aware of uninvited presence that was always there in her most vulnerable state even after she had sought out a temporary solution that might not work. Taking a break at Severin’s place was more ideal, it was even better because Severin’s presence was one that she trusted. There were many positive things about it, but there were also many other things that Nirvana couldn’t help thinking about. It wasn’t the first night she had spent with Severin, considering she had once commanded him to watch over her till she slept one time, but this time was a bit different. Nirvana wasn’t high on sugar or tired, and it was Severin’s place not hers. She caught herself twiddling her finger as soon as she stepped into the penthouse after Severin but she immediately lost the act, wondering why on earth she was very nervous and scolding herself for it while not calming her nerves in the slightest. By the tim

“You are extremely energetic this morning.” Laura said from behind Nirvana who turned to look at her with a smile. “I am?” Nirvana raised a brow at her, resting her butt on the edge of the table. They just finished closing a major deal in the conference room and Nirvana wanted to stay back for a bit to take a breather. “Yeah, you wouldn’t stop smiling, did something good happen?” Nirvana mind flashed to the events that happened the previous day at Severin’s place, how she felt a step closer to knowing who the man really was, discovering new sides of him that Nirvana wouldn’t have thought existed and finally ending the day with him asking her out on a date which they had agreed they would go on the weekend since workday was always stressful. It was sudden, and Nirvana didn’t expect herself to be so perky at the thought, it was like something she didn’t know she needed. Nirvana would say that she was just very happy because a date was a bigger step towards knowing Severin more and

Nirvana stood at the edge of the easel like an intruder, her eyes fleeting over the room without a second to pause as if she wasn’t quite sure where to really look and decided to take everything in at once. Severin didn’t invite her in, he just went to sit on the stool placed in front of a half-painted canvas. Nirvana couldn’t see what kind of painting was underway from where she stood, her eyes could only focus on the jars of paints of different colors. The cans were placed with accurate precision and there wasn’t too much of a mess, but Nirvana expected as much. Severin had told her that he was painting when Nirvana interrupted him, yet there wasn’t any clue to prove that fact on his body, not even when he told Nirvana and she actively searched for any clue she might have missed. There was a single wall in the room dedicated to painting he did himself. Strange, abstract, still, cold, emotionally turbulent works, but most of them were unlabeled. “Did you do all these paintings by

Nirvana continued to glare at Severin, but the man looked like he couldn’t be bothered with her anymore and was stuck thinking about something else entirely. Nirvana finally relaxed her tensed shoulder and slumped against the table once, resting her head on the table. “Why do you always do these things?” Nirvana asked. “Aren’t you supposed to be my friend?” “Honestly, you are so difficult to understand. Which kind of person chooses their friend over their sister?” Nirvana said, raising her head to rest it over her folded arms and stare at Severin from that position. “Is it only your sister that you don’t have a good relationship with or is it the same with every member of your family?” Severin turned his attention to her before he looked away like he didn’t hear the question she just asked. “Are you seriously ignoring me?” “I didn’t think that we were turning this into a family talk.” “You could have just told me that it was a sensitive topic for you, then I would avoid talking

“So, are you going to just sit there for the rest of the evening? I thought you came here to do something,” Severin said, and Nirvana posture slumped against the counter. “I know,” Nirvana replied, her shoulder drooping as her eyes remained fixed on the counter. “I am really sorry for the way I behaved yesterday at the party, even though I thought you were wrong at that time, it wasn’t enough ground for me to mouth off the way I did.” She looked up into his eyes. “It was just like the feelings inside me were all consuming and the way both of them talked about Ria reminded me of some things that happened to me in the past that I don’t want to remember. It wasn’t like a lid was removed from a lot of repressed feeling so much that I forgot about everything else and ignored how obvious the taunt was.” Nirvana blinked furiously as she twiddled her fingers under the counter in order to avoid bringing it to her lips and biting it. “And I am not trying to make excuses for what I have done
