“Is it done?”
Even if there was an earthquake and the noise of the world was deafening, there was no way she wouldn’t remember the voice of the woman that tortured both physically and mentally, the woman who took away the one real thing she thought she had ever known.
Kaitlyn Moore Jules.
“Yes, ma’am,” Another gruff voice replied, it was probably the hit-man that was in the car.
“I don’t believe it, let me check it. This bitch has a life thicker than bones, she has the ability to survive even the most ridiculous situation, just take what happened five years ago as an example.”
Nirvana’s vision was blurry and her breathing was faint but her ears can never be sharper than now.
Does this mean that Kaitlyn knew something about her accident five years ago? Was she the one that orchestrated it?
She felt the door open and it wasn’t long before the jumbled figure of Kaitlyn was standing in front of her, she bent her face to stare at hers, before a small laughter tumbled from her lips. “Would you look at this? What did I say? I said she has got all the stupid luck in the world.
After all that pushing and hitting, she is still hanging on to life pathetically,” Kaitlyn scoffed before she stood upright. “I guess that makes things more interesting. I would tell you some things that you must be desperate to know.”
Nirvana wondered what the use was now, she was going to die anyway, and whether she knew or not was not going to make any difference, her only regret was that she was dying in front of this woman.
“Tell you what? Your beloved lover, the one who you were willing to turn mellow for, the whole meaning of your life is the same reason why your life is hanging on a balance.
He got so tired of you that he ordered your death to be finalized.
He planned the same five years ago when you were rushing along to mess up a wedding, he knew you too well, he knew that’s what a hot-headed woman like you would do when you learn of what your parents did, so he had some men wait for you but these men were just too incompetent and couldn’t just get rid of a rat like you which was precisely the reason why I am here this time.”
“Why?” Nirvana managed to let out and Kaitlyn sighed.
“Of course I would tell you the reason, don’t be too hasty. Do you really think that Derek wanted you not to live on the street and that was why he made you stay at the Jules mansion? Don’t be delusional! He could care less if you rot in the street.
But you just had to go ahead and be too smart. This is because of that accursed grandfather of his! He loves you too much to the extent that he gave you his entire fortune, only for you to offhandedly tell him when he asked you about how you would give your own inheritance that everything would be for Derek as long as he took perfect care of you.
And just like that we have a clause in a will that even you had no idea of.
He had to keep you close and take care of you in the mansion to make that man think that he still loved you and cared for you.
You thought that you were the one being appeased that I would leave soon? You are wrong! I was the one who waited for years for Derek to find a way to make that stupid clause useless. How else do you think I would have your files if he didn’t hand it over to me?
Now that you have fulfilled your usefulness? Of course you would be discarded!”
Nirvana didn’t have any more energy to say anything or form a reaction to what Kaitlyn was saying. She could only feel the immense pain of her heart breaking from inside out and her heart shattering.
Who knew that it was over something as measly as the company that she would have willingly handed over to Derek if he had asked was the main reason why he wanted to end her life?
Her stomach churned in horror, unable to cover her ears like she desperately wanted to, so that she didn’t have to continue to listen to what Kaitlyn had to say.
“And did you seriously think that the car key that was on the table was forgotten there and just laying around? No, you are wrong, it was deliberately placed there.
Derek knew that Calvin would tell you everything that you wanted to know and you would still make the decision of finding us just like you did five years ago. You might have lost your memory but your temperament never changed, especially if there was nothing restraining you. You are still as hot headed as ever.”
Nirvana could feel her head light up because of the amount of blood she was losing and immense pain in her head from remembering her lost memories and injury from the accident.
But it was nothing compared to the pricking ache in her heart.
It just had to be Kaitlyn hazel eyes that she looked at as life slowly seeped away from, it just had to be her.
There was no sign of the man who she dedicated her entire life to, she wasn’t even important enough to let him witness her death.
Not a threat, not a lover, nothing more than a pawn.
Kaitlyn finally moved away but it was to get men who poured gasoline on her car before she finally set fire on it with her inside.
At her last moment in the car, as the fire licked and seared her skin, unable to scream for help as her existence slowly faded away from earth, she realized that she never left the restaurant that day.
From that time, to the time she had no memory and even till now, she was waiting for him to admit that he got it wrong and that he was back for her.
It took a long time and two deaths for her to know—a time when she had no more chance for her to get over and back at him—to grasp the fact that he was never coming back to her.
At the end of the day, the lessons are learnt, but in the hardest way possible.
Nirvana left the amusement roughly past eight p.m. when the only thing making her see the path right in front of her without straining her eyes was the bright half moon in the sky. “Why the hell are you following me?” Nirvana asked with a glare, and the guy beside her raised a brow at her. “Are you seriously asking that right now?” He asked, his eyes trailing over the dreary and abandoned woods on both sides of the narrow trail that Nirvana decided to take back to her safe house. It wasn’t that noticeable in the afternoon or evenings, but the woods on both sides gave an eerie feeling this late in the night and not noticing was out of the options especially when she could hear the sound of her footsteps extremely loud in her ears and the noises of the bird had taken an even weird tune. “You aren’t saying that someone is going to appear from within the woods, are you?” Nirvana asked, but he didn’t reply and just continued to walk beside her. Nirvana glared at him in annoyance befor
Nirvana hurried out of the place where she was and stood up to stare at the guy with a glare sharp enough to cut steel. “You finally decided to show yourself,” Nirvana spat, not bothering to hide her animosity. “I suddenly thought that entering my place at night without permission was your new favorite pastime.” He only stared at her without saying anything, not denying or admitting it. “What the hell are you even doing here?” Nirvana asked when he decided to remain mute, making sure to keep her distance. The recent events had made her realize how damn dangerous this man might end up being. He was able to have unadulterated access to her place after all, no matter if she changed the passwords or kept a key for it. “You were going to catch a cold. You have been around here for a long time and you seem to be lost in a trance.” He replied. “And what has that got anything to do with you? I am actively conscious of what I am doing, I don’t need you to tell me that I am going to catch
Nirvana escaped from home to this safe-house hidden from the buzzling headache of her apartment and memories, only to come here, take a walk and arrive at another point that embodied one of her memories—the bad ones. “Seems like today is Memory Recollection Day, how about I just chill back and let everything rush forward since my best effort to ditch it just got useless.” Nirvana said to herself as she walked further, towards that swing she had sat one when she was eight years old. It was supposed to be a family bonding time with her eldest brother, and it had seemed like that at first. Nirvana played on the slide while he watched her from the swing, then he pushed Nirvana on the swing until both of them were slightly tired. Then they had their meal that her brother had packed when he decided to take her out that weekend to a cool amusement park —which was this place— and he sat at the top of the slide while Nirvana ate on the swing while she rocked back and forth slightly. Nirvana hit the brakes when she got to her safe house she decided to spend her paid vacation at. She got down from the car and looked around, the sound of her sandals meeting the thin branches that fell on the floor sounded loud in her own ears. There was no sign of people around and wherever she looked, Nirvana either saw forest around her or saw high mountains not too far from where she was. It was perfect, still and full of nature, just the way Nirvana liked it. Nirvana could feel her shoulder which had been tense throughout her journey start to relax and her head seemed to clear up a bit as she went up the steps that led to the door. She opened the front door and stepped inside, letting the coziness and warmth of the room permeate her being as she flicked on the lights and laid on the couch that was placed right in the middle of the room for situations like this. Situations when she had to rest first before doing anything else. The interior of the house was an exact replica o
Getting into the same first rate university that Boris and Leah applied for was nothing short of a miracle for Nirvana. Nirvana had realized towards the last few months of the last year of their high school that she would probably get nowhere without Leah or Boris by her side and had started studying hard. Even then it was too late because Nirvana had spent the majority of her school years being the delinquent, and she had barely even got in and got into a business administration course. Getting into the university was her aim, but once she did and celebrated alongside her friends, she lost sight of her main goal because she suddenly realized that she had surmounted the only wall she created for herself. Adjusting to the atmosphere of a place where genius gathered was hard, she attended classes, still discussed fashion with Leah, played board games with Boris, and went about her activities with her ‘I don’t care attitude’ trademark. On the surface, everything was proceeding smoot
Talking to her friends was always the best thing to do when she was down, just talking to Boris was enough to ease her mind. Nirvana rolled into position so that she was lying on her bed as she dialed Leah’s number who picked up the call at the third ring. “Missing me so much that you just had to call me?” Leah asked as soon as Nirvana placed the phone on her ears. “You wish.” “Bitch. You should appreciate me more, don’t you know the sheer amount of people wishing I could spare them the time of the day?” “Aren’t you an arrogant little thing?” Nirvana mocked. “My job demands arrogance sometimes, it is rubbing off on me. The new director for the magazine keeps telling me to pose with a demeaning look, as if I think everyone around me is nothing but bugs.” She said dramatically that Nirvana couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped her mouth. “That sounds like a hard thing. I feel so bad.” “I am glad that there is someone who understands me.” “For them.” Nirvana said, and ther
