Lexi and Coffee

"That would be $10 sir" I said handing the middle aged man his cup of black coffee, as black as me soul.

I sighed inwardly whilst I took the money from his outstretched hand.

"Thank you sir, have a nice day" I smiled at him but he payed me no attention as he walked out of the coffee shop.

I worked at Bee's Coffee it wasn't your regular popular coffee shop but we did good. I placed the money in the cash register and made sure to record it in the store's computer. I walked out of my spot behind the counter and to the pantry to get some pastries for the display case. Just as I was selecting them and placing them on the tray I had brought with me I heard someone walk through door of the pantry I think the person kept calling out for me but I couldn't hear a thing, my thoughts were someplace else more specifically on the night I had spent out with the mystery man. I could still remember how he made me feel, how every touch of his ignited a new desire within me, how......

"Abby!!!" came the shrill scream of my name.

I doubled over in shock and almost knocked down the pastries I had set on the tray. Luckily I had steadied myself and the person who had called out to me cut the tray before it could fall of the table.

"Whoa now that was a close one, what has gotten into you girl" she said as she readjusted the tray and placed it at a safe distance.

"What do you mean?" I asked visibly confused.

"I mean what's got you so lost. I have been standing here for almost ten minutes trying to get your attention a d even calling your name but you didn't hear a thing. Everything okay?" she asked with concern in her eyes.

"I'm fine Lexi, was just thinking about something".

Lexi, a petite 5"6 blonde with emerald green eyes and a smile that could light up a room. She's my colleague here at Bee's Coffee. She is practically the only friend I had after the incident with my ex boyfriend and ex best friend.

I had called her the next day after my night at the club and asked if I could come over to which she immediately agreed. The moment she opened the door I broke down into sobs, the alcohol in my system had finally worn off and I was back to my senses. The moment she saw me with tears streaming down my cheeks she immediately engulfed me in a tight bear hug and I hugged her back. Once I was calm she handed me a glass of water which I accepted gratefully and started questioning me on what was wrong and I told her everything. How my boyfriend had cheated on me with my best friend, how I had gone to the club the same night hoping it would make me feel better, how I had met the mystery man and how we had spent the night together only for him to disappear the next morning.

She didn't judge me all she didn't was draw me into her embrace and comfort me, telling me everything would be fine. I had spent the night at her place and I was feeling much better by morning.

It had been a week, a week since I broke up with my boyfriend, a week since I had gone to the club that night, a week since I had seen the blue eyed stranger. If I was being honest I wasn't sad about my break up infact I was over it already but I was upset about not being able to see him again, the man who had rocked my world when I felt utterly alone.

Lexi's voice brought me back from my train of thoughts. "You're thinking about him aren't you?" she inquired with a slight smirk on her face. I knew exactly who she was talking about, the blue eyed prince charming as she now calls him. After I had told her what went down between us she instantly started shipping us. She said something about us being destined for each other and that we would meet very soon. I only laughed at this because there was no way I would ever see him again.

"No I wasn't" I lied, a small blush on my cheeks at the thought of him.

"You are the worst liar I have ever met" Lexi stated laughing a little at my reaction

I unconsciously moved my hands to cover my cheeks and that made Lexi laugh even more.

"okay fine yes I was thinking about him but it's of no use Lexi, I'm never going to see him again"

"And what makes you so sure?"

"Uhm how about the fact that he disappeared the very next morning? he didn't even drop a note. Trust me Lexi if he wanted to be found he wouldn't have left the way he did" I said with a tone of finality.

"Well girl it's just like I keep telling you, have a little faith okay?"

"Yeah yeah whatever" I said picking up the tray and walking back into the main shop to place the pastries in the display case.

"Oh Abby I almost forgot want to come over to my place tonight? you know since we're locking up early today" Lexi asked

"Uhm I'm not sure" I responded carefully placing each pastry in the display case.

"Come on girl it's gonna be fun, we'll watch movies, have ice cream I promise you'll have a great time"

"Lexi..."

Please, please please" she pleaded batting her lashes at me and giving me her best puppy dog eyes. She looked funny and it was taking everything in me not to laugh.

"Well may..." the sound of my phone cut me short. I reached into my uniform pocket to get it out to see an email. I froze on the spot. It was an email from a company I had applied to, to work as a secretary it was a long shot but I decided to try my luck and hell am I glad I did.

I stared at my phone, reading the email over and over again just to make sure I had seen right. I had just been asked to come for an interview at the company by Monday, I couldn't believe my eyes.

I averted my gaze from my phone and saw that Lexi was staring at me curiously. I smiled at her, a very bright smile which displayed my entire set of teeth.

"On a second thought I'm definitely coming over to your place later. How about we make it a sleep over instead?"

Lexi nodded at this and smiled back at me and I couldn't wait for Monday
