Hospital —

Mexico City, 9:46 AM

The waiting room felt suffocating.

The air was heavy, and the ticking of the wall clock echoed through the silence.

Alita sat frozen in her seat, her hands shaking so badly that she had to lock them together on her lap.

She hadn’t slept properly in weeks.

Her face was pale, and her eyes were swollen from crying.

Next to her, Marshall sat like a statue, his face cold and unreadable.

A few seats away, her stepmother, Emilia, sat beside Bianca. The two whispered quietly to each other, throwing judgmental looks at Alita every now and then.

After what felt like forever, the examination room door opened.

A doctor stepped out, holding a manila folder.

He looked at the family before letting out a quiet sigh.

“The test results are ready, Mr. Brown.”

Everyone became silent.

The doctor glanced at Alita’s frightened face before speaking again.

“The pregnancy test came back positive.”

He paused briefly.

“She is pregnant.”

The words hit Alita like a heavy blow.

Her vision blurred.

Her chest tightened so badly she could hardly breathe.

She had hoped…

Prayed…

That somehow the test would prove she was wrong.

But it hadn’t.

“Get rid of it.”

Marshall’s voice cut through the silence.

He didn’t shout.

He didn’t sound angry.

His tone was flat, as though he were discussing a failed business deal instead of his own daughter.

Alita flinched.

“D-Dad… I can’t…”

“I can’t just—”

“Listen to me carefully, Alita,” Marshall interrupted.

His cold eyes locked onto hers.

“You have two choices.”

“Either you terminate this pregnancy immediately…”

“…or you stop calling yourself a Brown.”

The words struck deeper than any slap.

For a moment…

Alita almost laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because of how ironic it was.

The Brown name had never belonged to Marshall.

It belonged to her late mother, Serena Brown.

Marshall had once been nothing more than Rodrigo Marshall.

He married Serena, took the Brown family name, and slowly took control of the Brown Company and everything her family had built.

The empire wasn’t his.

The fortune wasn’t his.

Even the surname he proudly carried wasn’t his.

Yet he stood there threatening to take away the very name he had stolen.

Something inside Alita finally broke.

Years of fear…

Years of silence…

Years of accepting every insult…

They disappeared.

Slowly, she lifted her head.

For the first time in her life…

She looked her father straight in the eyes.

“I’ll leave this house.”

Her voice was quiet.

But steady.

Marshall frowned.

Alita continued.

“But don’t ever tell me I’m not a Brown.”

Her eyes filled with tears, but she refused to look away.

“I was born a Brown.”

“My mother was Serena Brown.”

“I’m the rightful heir to this family.”

She pointed at him.

“You…”

“…are just the man who married into it for money.”

Silence filled the waiting room.

Emilia gasped her confident smile disappeared.

Even the doctor stood frozen.

Marshall’s face darkened.

His jaw clenched so tightly that the muscles twitched.

Never…

Not once…

Had Alita ever spoken back to him.

Without waiting for another word, Alita stood.

She ignored Emilia.

She ignored the doctor.

She simply turned around and walked toward the exit.

The glass doors swung open.

Then—

Bang!

They slammed shut behind her.

The moment she stepped outside, the strength she had forced herself to hold onto began to fade.

She stood on the busy sidewalk as cars rushed past and people hurried through the streets of Mexico City.

For the first time in her life…

She had nowhere to go.

No home.

No family.

No one waiting for her.

She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stop herself from shaking.

Then one face came to mind.

Her boyfriend.

He was the only person she believed would still stand beside her.

She quickly hailed a taxi.

After climbing inside, she gave the driver his address.

As the taxi pulled away from the curb, she rested a trembling hand on her stomach.

A painful knot formed in her chest.

She still hadn’t told him the truth.

She hadn’t told him about that horrible night…

About waking up in a stranger’s room…

Or about the child now growing inside her.

Tears quietly rolled down her cheeks.

No matter what happened next…

Her life would never be the same again.

SIX YEARS LATER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT — MEXICO CITY 9:30 A.M. Click! Click! Click! Click! The terminal was packed with flashing cameras and shouting reporters. Everyone pushed forward, desperate to get the best view. “Move! Get the camera closer!” one cameraman shouted, shoving another aside. “Do you think she’ll actually say something?” a female reporter asked excitedly. “I heard she doesn’t even speak to most of her managers.” “Who cares if she talks?” another reporter replied. “Just keep your eyes on the runway!” Vrooooom! The loud roar of jet engines echoed through the airport as a sleek matte-black private jet touched down. The tires hit the runway with a heavy thud. The crowd instantly exploded with excitement. “Oh my God!” “She’s here!” “She’s finally back!” A team of tall bodyguards dressed in black suits stepped out first. Their expressions were cold as they quickly formed a protective line. “Stand back!” “Give her space!” the head of security ordered. Th

Maxwell’s Apartment — 10:00 AM Alita walked through the gates of Maxwell’s luxury apartment complex. Since she had been his girlfriend for years, the gatekeeper didn’t question her. He simply smiled politely and opened the gate. “Good morning, Miss Alita.” She forced a weak smile before walking inside. Her heart felt unbearably heavy. Right now… She just wanted someone to hold her. Someone to tell her everything would be okay. She entered the house and slowly lowered herself onto one of the plush white couches in the living room. Her body felt exhausted. Her mind felt empty. “Where’s Maxwell?” she asked the maid, who was dusting a nearby table. The maid froze. The feather duster slipped slightly from her trembling hands. “Oh… the boss…” she stammered. “He… he went on a business trip.” Alita frowned. Something felt wrong. The atmosphere inside the house was strange. Too quiet. Too tense. The maid refused to meet her eyes. “A business trip?” Alita slowly stood.
