Chapter 13 First Offer

“How is she, doc? How’s the baby? Please take good care of my friend,” said a woman’s voice.

“The baby is fine. Your friend is fine, too. She just needs some rest,” replied a woman's voice, who seemed to be a doctor.

“Thank you, doc,” the man said.

I kept my eyes closed, trying to sense the number of people around me. I was worried about the man who might have heard my conversation with Belle in the restaurant. And I was also curious about why Belle was here and how she found out.

“Miss Belle, I’ll just buy some food for her. Is it okay if -”

“No… no… It’s fine. He-he. You can go on now, Mr. Reed,” Belle interrupted the man.

I heard footsteps fading away.

I opened my eyes and saw her standing there, with her hands across her chest and brows raised. She helped me sit on the bed and put pillows on my back to make me comfortable.
