Chapter 9 Trouble Sleeping

Argh!!! What is happening to me?! I’ve been here for a month now. Yet, I still have trouble sleeping. Darn it! Why is it so hard to get enough sleep in this house? Is the house haunted? Or am I haunted? I kept tossing around to find a better position to sleep, but it still didn’t work.

Last week, I took a day off and went home to my apartment. I was just leaning on the sofa, while watching my favorite Korean drama series and immediately fell asleep. I slept so long, and when I woke up, it was already morning. I wasn’t feeling hungry, which was unusual for me as I was always hungry. However, I still had trouble sleeping upon my return to Mr. Reed’s house.

I walked to the kitchen to drink chamomile tea to help me calm down when I heard a woman murmuring about something I couldn’t understand while she walked down the stairs. She looks like a foreigner. And she’s not the same woman I saw last night.

It’s also been a month since I discovered my boss, Mr. Reed, was a Casanova. He always invited different women into his house every night. Whenever I stepped out of my room, which was situated across from his, a woman accompanied by him emerged abruptly from his room. But I wonder what they were doing in there. Because if they were having sex, why was it too quick? Why did the woman who had just got out of his room, feel disappointed? Was he not that good? If they ask me about how good was he in bed, well… I couldn’t recall. I passed out that night and I don’t remember anything at all.

“Hey, you!” I suddenly looked around to see who she was talking with.

I pointed myself, “Me?” I asked quizzically.

“Who are you?” she asked.

“I’m Aurora, miss. Why do you ask?”

She looked at me from my toes up to my head with her right brow raised, which made me frown.

“What are you in this house?” she asked.

I’m a human, duh! I snorted in my mind.

“I’m Mr. Reed’s housekeeper. How may I help you, ma’am?” I asked politely, even though she was rudely looking at me.

She scoffed. “No wonder,” she muttered.

“I’m sorry?” I asked.

“Nothing. Give me a cup of tea with what you are drinking,” she ordered.

“My subordinate only serves me and no one else. So, if I were you, better get out of my house or I will drag you out, naked.” The woman glared at Yvan, who was talking from the second floor.

The woman snorted as she stomped her feet while walking out of the house. “Jerk!” I even heard her cursing.

“Mr. Reed,” I greeted him before I bowed my head in respect.

“Were you always like that?” he asked.

I suddenly looked at him, puzzled. What is this man talking about?

“I couldn’t follow,” I honestly answered.

“You always come out of your room every night. Are you eavesdropping?” His eyes narrowed at me as he came closer and leaned towards me.

I immediately stepped back until I could feel the wall from my back. Checkmate! What will I do now?

“I’m sorry, Mr. Reed. I don’t know what you are talking about.” I stammered as I heard my heart beating erratically. It felt like my heart would come out of the ribcage.

He smirked, then stepped back to check the teacup I drank from before. Dammit! That was so close! What was he thinking? Was he teasing me?! Darn! I hope I did not blush.

“Is this yours?” he asked and smelled the tea.

Isn’t it obvious? Who else would he think would drink tea at this hour?

His brows creased. “Camomile?” he asked. I nodded.

“Why? Do you need something that could calm your mind and body fantasizing about me?

“I couldn’t sleep here in your house.” I straight up told him.

"I feel like I’m being haunted in this place," and all he did was chuckle.

I swear I couldn’t sleep at night! I was like a little kid, always running to my dad and telling him stuff. And he's just laughing at my problem. Argh!

“Seriously! It’s been a month, and I still couldn’t sleep properly. Yet, you are laughing at me?” I scoffed in disbelief.

“Or maybe you can’t sleep at night, ‘cause you’re dying to see what’s happening in the bedroom.” He gave me a smirk, eyes squinting and lips curling up.

I felt my cheeks were blushing at his shameless remarks. The audacity of this guy! I’m not a perv like him. Huh! “Why would I sneak into your room?! You pervert!” I pushed him hard so I could walk out of the kitchen.

I can’t stand that man! Argh!

I immediately entered my room and locked it.

I just want to sleep peacefully. I hissed as I glared at the door, thinking it was him.

I lay down on my bed and tried to go back to sleep.

I woke up when I heard my phone rang. Without opening my eyes, I tried to reach for my phone, placed it on the bedside table, and answered the call without looking at who was distracted from my peaceful sleep.

“Hello?” I answered sleepily. I’m still drowsy and couldn’t even turn my eyes wide open.

“Aurora…” Her voice was shaky, and it seemed like she was crying. I frowned when it came from the familiar voice of a woman.

Worried, I opened my eyes and looked at the screen.

“Belle? Are you crying?”

“Au! Waahhh… Waahhh…” I heard her sniffed.

“Calm down, babe. Why are you crying?”

“My fiance! He broke up with me! He cancelled our wedding!”

“What?! Why?” I jumped out of bed when I heard what she said.

“He… He was already married! A-and the woman came to me. She confronted me and told me to let go of him because she was pregnant with their second baby! Waah!”

What else can you expect?! All men are cheaters! All men are cheaters!

“You can’t expect men to be a one-woman-man because it’s their nature. So what are you going to do now?” I asked.

“I need to move out of his place.”

I sighed in relief. When I heard her stop crying.  “That’s good. You can stay in my apartment. The key was under the rug in front of the door. I will visit you there on my next day off. Let’s talk about it later.”

We bid goodbyes over the phone after she agreed to what I had just said.

I have also prepared myself and showered and dressed in home clothes. Just the right T-shirt and loose jogging pants before leaving my room. I looked around and it looked like Mr Reed had already left.

I breathed a sigh of relief. I don’t want to see him today, and my blood boils because of his arrogance.

I start my day with a delicious breakfast. Fortunately, that man doesn’t cook breakfast and leaves home early. After eating, I washed what I ate and started cleaning the entire house. My stomach rumbled, signaling that I was hungry. I stopped cleaning and looked for something to eat in the fridge. I just cooked spicy noodles when I couldn’t find anything to eat in the fridge.

After I had lunch, and washed the noodles I used earlier, I went back to cleaning.

The last part of the house that I will clean is my boss’ room. Sweeping, wiping the glass, and mopping the floor. I followed his bathroom, and lastly the closet. I was exhausted and thought I’d chill in his walk-in closet for a bit.

And I didn’t realize I was so tired that I fell asleep. I just woke up when I heard the door open.

And two people’s footsteps and groans were heard. I immediately covered my mouth when I realized I was inside his room! Shit! What will I do now? I was in a state of panic because I had no idea what to do.

Hmm. The moan from the outside continued and the longer I stayed here, I felt it was getting hotter and hotter. Surely my cheeks were blushing right now.

It’s cold here in his room, but I’m sweating because I hear a woman moaning.

After a while, my foot suddenly crumpled, causing me to hit the dustpan, and it fell to the floor.

Thud!

“What was that?” I heard the woman talk.

“Out of my house now!”

Was it me he was talking about? Maybe not.

“Me?!”

“Yes. You get out of my house right now!”

“Jeez… I couldn’t believe this guy…” I heard the woman’s voice descending.

She probably got out of his room. Now… It’s time for me to worry about myself. I need to come clean and told him that-

“What are you doing here in my closet?”

Damn! I’m doomed!
