Chapter 120 – star behavior

Diana’s POV

It was 3:00am, I was lying on my side, eyes half–closed, when I noticed it. I woke up and noticed that the staff wasn’t sleeping as close to as usual and it felt strange. Everything was quiet.

Too quiet.

No voices from inside the house.

Not even the faint hum of the refrigerator from the kitchen. So I decided to leave the bed and go look for my boy not for me to start hearing

A smell.

It was not the smell of toast or eggs or coffee.

Not the smell of something cooking.

It was stronger.

Sharper.

Cold. Raw.

Like the smell of a butcher shop early in the morning.

Like fresh meat that had never been touched by heat.

I frowned.

My mind told me it was nothing …maybe just my imagination.

But my body didn’t believe it.

My body stiffened under the blanket.

The smell wasn’t faint.

It was real.

It was here, in the house.

The cold air touched my arms, and goosebumps rose.

I listened.

Nothing.

But the smell… it was stronger now.

I swung my legs over the side

  • A Pulse And Betrayal    Chapter 122 – The Unexpected Knock

Chapter 122 – The Unexpected KnockDiana’s POVI unlocked the door and stepped into my house. It was quiet. The kind of quiet that feels soft. I held the grocery bag with the steak in it and laughed to myself. The “dog” lie I told Xander was silly. If he ever found out I didn’t have a dog, he would tease me forever.I set the bag on the kitchen counter. I turned on the small lamp near the sink. Warm yellow light filled the room. I washed my hands. I filled the kettle and set it to boil. The sound was low and steady. The house smelled like lemon soap and clean floors. It felt safe.I walked down the hall, slipped off my shoes, and let my toes touch the cool floor. I opened my closet and pulled out my nightwear. It was a silky, dark slip with thin straps. It wasn’t too revealing, but it made me feel pretty. It brushed my knees when I moved. I put it on and tied a soft robe loosely around my waist. I wanted comfort. I wanted to feel like the day was finally over.Back in the kitchen, the

Chapter 121 – last Judgment Xander’s POVThe sound of my alarm felt too loud for such an early morning. I groaned, rolled over, and smacked the phone to make it stop. My head still felt heavy…not from sleep, but from the weight of everything that had happened these past weeks. For a while, I just stayed there, staring at the ceiling of my hotel room. My mind wandered back to the warehouse…the smell of dust, the echo of Mercy’s voice, the knife in her hand, Diana was tied to a chair, tears in her eyes.I pushed the memory away, but it stayed in the background, like a bad song I couldn’t stop hearing. Then my phone rang again.Different tone this time. Not the alarm. A call.I reached for it lazily, my voice still rough as I said, “Hello?”“Mr. Xander?” The voice was male, official-sounding.“Yes.”“This is Officer Ken from the department. The commissioner gave me your number. I’m calling to inform you that the suspects from the warehouse incident…Mercy and Ghost…will be facing court t

  • A Pulse And Betrayal    Chapter 119 —His favorite food

Chapter 119 —His favorite food Diana’s POVThe ride home felt longer than usual. The cab moved slowly through the quiet streets, the hum of its engine a soft background noise in the otherwise still night. I sat in the back seat, holding the plastic bag tightly on my lap. Inside were two thick packs of raw steak, still cold from the shop’s freezer. Every few seconds, I pressed my palm against the bag, ensuring it was still cool. Star had been so specific about wanting a steak that was “still bloody.”The thought made me shiver a little. It was strange for a child to want something like that… but at the same time, if that were what he wanted to eat, I would get it for him. I would get him anything if it meant seeing that small smile on his face. The driver glanced at me in the rear-view mirror. “Long night?” he asked.“Yes,” I said softly. “Work.”He nodded without saying more, as if he understood that I was too tired to talk. I turned my gaze to the window. The streetlights glowed a w

CHAPTER 117 – Long Night’s WorkDiana’s POVThe morning came slowly.I opened my eyes to the faint light coming through the curtain. The air was still cool. For a few seconds, I just lay there on the bed, feeling the softness of the blanket and the slight ache in my back from yesterday’s work. But when I thought about the doctor’s words, the cost of the test, and Star’s warm little face, my body refused to rest.I had no choice. If I wanted to save him, I had to work harder than I had ever worked before.I sat up, rubbed my eyes, and whispered to myself, “Another day, Diana. You can do this.”The smell of flour still lingered in the air from last night’s late baking. This was my life now….baking in the morning, baking in the afternoon, baking at night … until my arms and legs felt heavy and my eyes burned. But stopping was not an option.Star needed me.And the doctor had given me no other choice but to find the money.I went to my kitchen. It was narrow, but it was my world. On one s

  • A Pulse And Betrayal    Chapter 117 – The Elder’s Warning

Chapter 117 – The Elder’s WarningXander’s POVThe hotel room was silent.Too silent.I sat on the edge of the bed, elbows resting on my knees, staring at the floor. The carpet had a simple pattern, but I wasn’t looking at it. My mind was far away, full of thoughts I couldn’t push away. The night outside was calm. The city lights glowed through the big glass window. I could hear the faint hum of cars in the distance. But inside my chest, it felt like a storm.I had been living like this for a long now coming back to this empty room, hearing only my breathing. Being Alpha King meant power, respect, and control. But it also meant loneliness. And lately, the loneliness had started to feel heavier than ever.I ran a hand through my hair and leaned back against the headboard. My thoughts went to Diana, the woman who had been on my mind for years. The woman I had once mated with. The only woman I could mate with. And then, without warning, I felt it.A shift in the air.The scent of old mag
