Looking in the mirror I’m still surprised by the woman who looks back at me. It’s been a few months since I came to the Invictus Pack and the changes in me are more than obvious. My dark, wavey brown hair is now thick and glossy instead of greasy and matted with dirt and dry blood.Chris had the former Gamma female – Evalyn’s mother-in-law – come in and treat my hair to get it looking decent again. It took her hours, but that was only part of the work.My diet has significantly improved since being here, which has not only improved the health of my hair but the rest of me too.The Mei from months ago was skin and bone. My skin almost looked translucent; covered in bruises with veins and bones sticking through the skin. I rarely saw my reflection but when I did it was terrifying. Now my skin has a peachy hue to it and looks healthy and my bones are hidden under skin and muscle where they belong. My brown eyes – that for years were dark and lifeless – now shine a warm chocolate colour.

After Amelia’s announcement we join training but as time goes on the excitement I had, started to wear off and panic began to take over. If Chris weren’t holding my hand right now I think I would pass out. We’re standing on the front steps of the packhouse; him in black slacks, a grey dress shirt with three buttons open with the sleeves rolled up and a black vest over the top; his hair up in its usual bun. He looks so powerful and handsome that just having him beside me fills me with confidence. Yesterday was full of revelations and ended up being surprisingly emotional, but I feel much better today and ready to start my training. The past two weeks have been some of the most intense and thrilling weeks of my life. I’ve lost count of how many times Setia has kicked my rear, but it doesn’t bother me. Beating her would be the real miracle. She’s helped me to be more comfortable in all my forms and learn how to use each to their fullest potential. She’s even helped me to better embrace my healing abilities. I can feel myself getting stronger and every day there’s a part of me – a part still lying dormant – that awakens just a little more. I don’t know what it means and some days it scares me, but whatever it is, I will embrace it when the time comes. I’ve learned so much about the history of my people, including all our weaknesses. Once Lacey finishes Evalyn’s hair we’re finally ready to leave. We all split up into two cars. Amelia, Marcus, Vitali, and Eric get into Marcus’ truck and Chris, myself, Tyson, and Evalyn climb into Chris’ gold SUV with black chrome rims.
