The story is about to take some rough turns, and it may feel never-ending, but trust the process!
The downside of dealing with human contractors is I can’t punch them in the face when they act like condescending assholes. I have been on the phone to these morons for longer than I’d like, and they think because we’re a little ‘village’ in the middle of nowhere that we’re hicks or something. As the person in charge of pack finances, let me just say we are a very lucrative pack, and we could buy and sell their stupid company ten times over if we wanted to. I plan to talk to Amelia about these guys so she can maybe consider hiring a different crew because I know for a fact she would not want to be associated with people who have this kind of attitude with their clients. It’s just bad business. But if they want to risk a hell of a payday, that’s on them. 'I’m heading up to your office, so you better let me in,' comes my sister’s usual bossy voice through the link. It’s always the short people who are the bossiest. Maybe it’s a complex. I get up from my desk and open the door to my
I smile shaking my head, but Amelia does have a point. That was a lot of power that came out of Mei today, all triggered because for a brief moment Jane made Mei feel the way that disgraceful pack did. I wonder what it will be like at full strength. 'Come on, let’s go take Amelia’s advice and go back to the suite and put something nice together for Sweet One, and hopefully finish what we started in the tub this morning,' says Axel, wagging his tail. 'I’m going, I’m going. Since when are you so bossy?' 'Uh, since we met the love of our life, duh,' he says, rolling his eyes. I just smile, shaking my head. I get up, save all my documents, shut down my computer and head back to my suite. Mei deserves something romantic. She loves food, so I’ll start by making her something delicious. I roll up my sleeves, head over to the kitchen area and get to work on making chorizo carbonara. It’s one of my specialties and I know for a fact Mei loves it. She usually goes through three or four help
I sit in the corner of the hospital room; its lights have been turned down because they were hurting Setia’s eyes – which were also burned. Time seems to have gotten away from me. I haven’t been paying attention to anyone or anything. Axel isn’t talking, he’s just curled up in a ball weeping. I’d join him, but instead, I’ve been focusing so hard on trying to reach Mei, but still nothing. I’m not giving up though. My senses return to me when I hear an airy voice yell Setia’s name. I look up as a woman with chestnut hair, and glittering latte skin walks into the room in basic pyjama pants and a tank top. I recognise her, she was the Delegate who stopped Alpha Ivan from killing Mei – Defne. She rushes to Setia’s side, a look of deep concern on her face as she begins speaking to her. I can’t understand what she’s saying though; I don’t speak the language of the Gods. A moment later another woman enters the room. She’s the same height as Defne at 5’5”, but she has creamy white skin and lo
I’ve experienced all types of pain in my life, but this is entirely new. I feel like I’m waking up without remembering falling asleep, but even though I feel my senses returning, my eyes just don’t want to open and I’m not sure I want them to either. My entire body aches in a way I can barely put into words. At best, I’d describe it as though my blood has been replaced with lead and I’m being crushed by my own blood. My blood hurts. That doesn’t even make sense. The pain just doesn’t feel as though it’s in my muscles or bones but in my very blood. I know there are no pain receptors in blood but this is the best way I can describe it. “I’m glad you’re finally waking up,” I hear a smooth voice say. I can sense someone moving and sitting beside me. I then feel cool fingers brush my hair from my face. I want to move away from their touch, but my body is too heavy. All I manage is a groan of protest. “Sh, I know it hurts. It’s only temporary, but it’s for the best.” I’m starting to remem
There is just too much for my mind to process right now and I can only imagine Chris is feeling a million times worse. After Setia and Defne’s revelations, Chris stormed out of the hospital. I wanted to run after him, but I decided to give him some space. I just hope I made the right decision. Heading back to the packhouse I keep replaying Setia’s words over and over in my mind and the more it replays the more infuriated I become. Zara hasn’t stopped pacing, she’s as much of a mess as I am right now. As soon as I step into the packhouse the delicious and comforting scent of caramel hits me and instantly some of the tension leaves my body. I look up to see Marcus standing near the entrance. As soon as I look up at him he opens his arms to me, and I step into them without hesitation. Our arms wrap around each other, and I inhale his sweet scent, letting it soothe me. I really needed this. “How did everything go?” “Whatever you might imagine as the worst-case scenario, is nowhere near
Our tender moment is disturbed when Evalyn’s panicked voice fills my head. 'Amelia! Please, help! We’re in the Delta suite and Chris has completely lost it!' She cries, her words laced with worry. “Fuck, Chris,” I mutter, and quickly sprint out of my office, heading right for the Delta suite with Marcus racing beside me. When I arrive the door is open, and I can hear snarls and growls and a struggle going on inside. Marcus and I burst in and the sight before me is not one I could have predicted in a million years. The entire suite has been trashed. Chris is in a blind rage, going completely feral. His hazel-green eyes are glowing an intense brightness I’ve never seen, and his dad and Tyson are trying to hold him back while Evalyn consoles Kennedy who is sobbing in the corner at the sight of her son. “Amelia! Please stop him!” Evalyn cries with tears in her eyes. Just as I step forward a growl bursts from Chris with so much energy behind it the entire room shakes and then he’s tos
Soft fingers caress my cheek, their action stirring me from my sleep as throbbing pain radiates through my face. I feel no electricity from this touch. It’s not my Chris touching me. Despair and disgust swirl inside me. As I start to wake up, I try once again to reach out through my link to Chris, but there’s nothing there. It hurts, not just my heart but my very soul. Chris and I haven’t been apart for more than a few hours since we met. To be this far away from him is unbearable. “Time to wake up, my love. We’re home,” I hear the Emperor’s voice gently whisper. I know which home he means, and it’s not the one I want. I slowly manage to open my eyes, now aware of the painful throbbing in my face and head. I can tell my cheek is swollen; my cheekbone is definitely broken. I slept through the entire plane ride. I was too emotionally and physically exhausted to stay awake. I wasn’t afraid to sleep around the Emperor; while I don’t doubt he’d hurt me if I step out of line – he’s alre
Soon I notice the dense forest parting and opening up into a landscape that takes my breath away. This must be the kingdom of Longsang. We drive along a cliff-side that sees over a river of crystal blue water. There are several small waterfalls, each with bridges running over them. The largest waterfall comes from the mountain to our right. We pass homes, structures, and pavilions everywhere, even along the side of the mountain or on top of cliffs. There are people everywhere just going about their lives with their homes nestled among lush greenery and plum blossom trees everywhere. We keep driving until eventually driving between two cliff faces until the space opens up to the most beautiful palace I’ve ever seen. The traditional Chinese structure is surrounded by mountains and is at least five stories high and mostly red; from the tiles to the wooden rails and beams. The pillars are all black with gold seals on the front that show two snakes facing each other. Lanterns hang from ev
