CHAPTER 25 — FIRE BENEATH SKIN

Arianna’s POV

The arena smelled of sweat and wood polish, the scent thick with anticipation. Mooncrest’s warriors were assembled, lined in formation, their eyes fixed on me as I stretched, feeling the baby shift gently inside me. The baby’s movements sent small waves of warmth coursing through my body, a rhythm that pulsed in tandem with my own heart. The sunlight filtering through the open roof of the arena painted the floor in golden streaks, and for a fleeting second, I allowed myself to feel… normal.

Normal.

I shook the thought away. I wasn’t normal—not anymore. Not since the whispers, not since the blood in my chambers, not since the seer had warned Kael about the prophecy. Normalcy was a memory, a fragile illusion, and the arena was about to prove it.

“Today’s exercise,” Kael’s voice boomed across the field, smooth, commanding, and laced with something more—a subtle undercurrent of awe. My pulse quickened at the sound, though I refused to let it un

CHAPTER 24 — THE FIRST OMENKael’s POVThe moon hung low over Mooncrest, spilling silver light across the pack lands, but its calm beauty did little to soothe the storm brewing in my chest. I had not slept; the echoes of whispers, the rogue insignias, and the intrusion into Ariana’s chambers had kept me on edge for hours. Every shadow seemed to shift with intent, every gust of wind carried a warning I could not ignore.I stood at the edge of the training grounds, cloak pulled tight around my shoulders, watching the pack as they moved under the moonlight. Their forms were precise, disciplined, yet even their rigor felt vulnerable tonight. My mind was elsewhere, already racing toward the matter I had brought to a secret seer—a matter too delicate to leave to the ordinary eyes of the pack.Ariana. My Luna. My wife. She had changed everything for me, for the pack, and yet, with each passing day, I realized how fragile everything remained. The seer had arrived quietly in the dead of night,

CHAPTER 23 — WHISPERS IN THE WALLSArianna’s POVThe Mooncrest castle was eerily quiet that night. The torches lining the corridors cast flickering shadows, making the walls look alive, as though the stone itself were breathing. My baby had been settled in a soft cradle beside my bed, her breathing even and peaceful, and for a moment, I allowed myself to relax. Just a fraction. Just a second. But even in that moment, the silence pressed against me, heavy and suffocating. It started as a whisper, faint and almost indistinguishable from the wind brushing against the walls. I froze, my wolf stirring beneath my skin, ears twitching. Did I imagine it? I thought.“Fire-Blooded…”The word lingered in the air like smoke, curling around my consciousness. I froze entirely, heart thudding, hands gripping the edges of the bedspread. Who said that? I demanded in my mind. Where are you?Nothing. Just the faint flicker of torchlight against the walls.I shook my head, forcing my wolf to quiet. I had

CHAPTER 22 — THE ALPHA’S SHADOWKael’s POVThe Mooncrest night was quiet, deceptively quiet, as I stood atop the cliff overlooking the valley. The pack below slept fitfully, the torches lining the village like scattered fireflies, flickering faintly against the darkness. From up here, the world seemed peaceful. Tranquil. Yet I knew better. The stillness of the night was a deception, a veneer masking the currents of chaos flowing beneath our borders. I could feel it in the air, the tension winding through the pack like a coiled spring, ready to snap.I paced slowly along the edge of the cliff, my hands clasped behind my back, my mind racing with the events of the past days. Ariana. My Luna. My wife. The way she had stepped into the council chamber, carrying a child no less, and challenged centuries of tradition with nothing more than conviction and clarity—my chest swelled with pride, tempered by the gnawing awareness of the dangers it had drawn. She had changed so quickly, so unexpect

CHAPTER 21 — BLOOD AND LAWArianna’s POVThe weight of authority settled on my shoulders like an unyielding mantle. I could feel it there, heavy and real, the invisible pressure of expectation and consequence pressing down with every heartbeat. The baby rested quietly in my arms, her tiny body rising and falling against my chest, a fragile life that now tethered me to the pack in ways I had never imagined. The dungeon was quiet, too quiet, the stone walls echoing the distant murmurs of the guards and the occasional shuffle of feet in the hallway. Yet even in this silence, I could feel eyes on me—watching, calculating, waiting to see if the newly declared Luna of Mooncrest was capable of wielding her authority without faltering.I inhaled slowly, letting my wolf’s presence steady me. She was quiet now, coiled beneath my skin like a living flame, her instincts sharp, ready to flare if danger came close. We are ready, she murmured. This is your moment.I had never felt the weight of my p

CHAPTER 20 — A DESPERATE MOTHERArianna’s POVThe dungeon corridor smelled of damp stone and iron, the cold seeping into my bones the moment I stepped inside. The torches flickered along the walls, their light dancing across the rough surfaces, casting long, hungry shadows. Somewhere deeper, chains rattled faintly, echoing against the walls like a warning I couldn’t ignore.I gritted my teeth, feeling the weight of the pack’s expectations pressing down on me. Every step felt heavier than the last, yet I walked forward, each motion deliberate, careful. My baby stirred within me, tiny movements pressing insistently against my belly, a reminder that this wasn’t just about me anymore.I knew where she was.The woman—she was crouched near the far cell, her body curling protectively around a small bundle. Her clothes were torn, bloodstains dark across the fabric, her hair matted with sweat and grime. She pressed herself to the stone floor as though hiding from the world itself. But the mome
