Mr. Graham hurried after Jonathan, glancing back at Maria. The way he looked at her was like he was meeting her for the first time.

Maria just shook out her hand, ignoring the strange stares from the house staff before heading back upstairs for a shower. By the time she finished and was ready for bed, half an hour had passed.

Her phone showed two missed calls and a few messages. The calls were from Richard and Catelyn.

Maria ignored them. She could guess easily enough that Jonathan had run to them to complain. She didn't even bother reading Richard's messages. Instead, she simply deleted the whole chat.

Two unread texts were from Zack, reminding her to come for a checkup the next day to see if the new medication had changed anything in her body.

Maria looked up at the calendar on the wall.

After tonight, there would only be four days left.
