Mary hid all of these details, too afraid to tell Arianne. All she said was that the old woman was having a bad cold and nothing was wrong. She waited until Arianne went back to her room before calling Mark, “Sir, something’s happened to Mrs. Wynn. Zoey Harris and her husband have pushed her into acute pneumonia; continuous bouts of fever have damaged her brain. She’s old. Even if she can be saved, there will be side effects.
