Celeste’s POV

The door creaked open. My breath hitched.

Viv Lancaster stepped into the room first, her heels nearly silent against the floor. Nathaniel followed, tall and composed, but visibly uncomfortable. I felt a strange jolt ripple through me, like cold water running down my spine. For a second, I thought I was hallucinating.

“What…” My voice came out hoarse. “Why are you here?”

Viv’s gaze swept over me, her expression softening in a way I hadn’t expected. Pity. That was the first thing I saw. Not hostility. Not judgment. Just… quiet, aching pity.

“We came to apologize,” she said gently. “To see you. If that’s alright.”

I didn’t answer right away. My pulse fluttered erratically. Part of me wanted to shout. To scream that they were a little late. The other part—the one curled beneath layers of exhaustion and trauma—simply couldn’t find the strength to fight.

So I nodded. Even though I wasn’t entirely sure if they’d really been responsible for covering up Genevieve’s wrong doings.

Damien’s POVThe line connected on the second ring.“Jake,” I said, already pacing the length of my office. His sigh came through before his words did. “Nothing. I’ve tapped ports, hospitals, police chatter, under-the-radar channels. No trace of Alain. No Genevieve either. It’s like they both… fell off the map.”My jaw tightened. “They don’t just disappear.”“I know,” Jake said. “Which is what worries me.”I stopped in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. Morning traffic crawled below like ants unaware of what predators watched from above.“If Genevieve’s alive, she’s unstable,” I said flatly. “If Alain’s alive, he could be protecting someone. Either way, Celeste’s still at risk.”“I’ll keep digging,” Jake said. “What do you want me to prioritize?”“Patterns,” I answered without hesitation. “Anything that smells familiar. Anything that doesn’t make sense.”“Got it.”The call ended just as a sharp knock sounded at my door.“Come in,” I said, eyes still on the cit

Celeste’s POVColette’s café looked like itself again—whole, glowing, alive.Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, catching on polished wood and clean glass, turning everything honey-bright. The smell of fresh coffee and citrus pastries wrapped around me like a familiar embrace. Harper and I had dropped by here because I wanted to check on Colette. And she said she was fine coming along with me. I stirred my latte slowly, watching the foam swirl. “So,” I said casually, glancing at her over the rim. “You and Michael are good now, huh?”Harper snorted. “Define good.”“Oh please,” I grinned. “You’re glowing.”She groaned and leaned back in her chair. “Okay, fine. Yes. We’re good.” Then she shrugged, softer. “I mean—we’re not magically best friends with everyone in his life or anything. But…” She hesitated, then sighed. “I think the tension’s gone. At least the ugly kind.”I raised an eyebrow. “Including with Colette?”“That,” Harper said frankly, “is a work in progress.” She took

Nico’s POVBy day three of Operation “Let’s Turn This Ranch into a Guest Paradise,” the place looked like a kicked-over anthill—people scurrying everywhere, hauling supplies, drilling things, rechecking lists. And Sage?Sage was everywhere at once.Fixing tack. Checking feed. Volunteering for every damn task before anyone else opened their mouth. But the more she did, the quieter she became. Not dramatic. Not sulking. Just… retreating.I noticed it between the noise, in the small things. Perhaps because I was always paying close attention to her and what she was doing. During the morning meeting, Briggs said, “We’ll have lots of strangers walking around soon. Keep the horses calm, make sure the gates stay latched.”Sage went still. She just locked up tight for a second before scribbling something on her clipboard and pretending nothing happened.Later, when Martha asked who wanted to coordinate the check-in booth, Sage practically jumped to say yes—and then immediately stepped back l

Michael’s POVBy the time the last of the floodwater was pushed out and the floors no longer reflected the ceiling lights like a sad indoor lake, the storm had quieted to nothing more than a soft drizzle. The café was a mess—chairs stacked haphazardly, towels everywhere, a mop graveyard in the corner—but Colette… she was smiling. A real one. The kind that made her eyes glow again. Her staff—exhausted but relieved—brought over mugs of steaming coffee for everyone. The scent of roasted beans wrapped around us, grounding, warm.I accepted mine and took a long sip. “Well,” I muttered, looking around the wrecked café, “gourmet coffee in the middle of a disaster zone while it’s still raining outside.”I raised my mug. “Just perfect.”Colette snorted, bumping my shoulder lightly with hers. “Right? This is exactly the ambiance I was going for. Very… post-apocalyptic chic.”I grinned. “I’m giving it a five-star review.”She rolled her eyes but laughed, finally relaxing into the chair beside m

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 366

Nico’s POVI was up before dawn like some motivated farm boy. If anyone had told me I’d do that voluntarily, I’d have punched them for lying. But yeah, I did it. And I was actually looking forward to working today at the ranch. Fuck. What’s happening to me?Yet there was a stupid grin on my face as I got ready. Today we were scheduled to begin the preparations, and for some reason, I was actually excited. Ever since Martha and Old Man Briggs made the big announcement about opening the ranch to guests, people around here have been… different. Fired up. Hungry. Maybe because absolutely nothing ever happened on this dusty land, and the idea of new people showing up felt like someone cracked a window open. Plus—bigger paychecks, bonuses if business booms… yeah, that’ll motivate anyone. So now everyone’s expected to pull their weight.Everyone had gathered around the fire pit last night while Briggs stood like some grizzled prophet, his husky voice echoing across the property.“We’ll o

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 365

Michael’s POVWater rushed across the street in swift, swirling streams, pooling at the café entrance. The blue awning thrashed in the wind like it was barely hanging on. Inside, lights flickered against fogged-up windows.I slammed the car door and splashed toward the entrance—ankle-deep water soaking straight through my shoes.“Colette!” I shouted over the storm. The door burst open and Colette appeared, drenched, hair stuck to her cheeks, clutching a broom like she intended to fight the ocean itself.“Michael!” she gasped. “Why on earth are you here?!”Inside, two staff members were sweeping water toward the back, their faces tight with panic. Another stood on a chair, trying to unplug appliances before the water reached the outlets.Colette rushed toward me, nearly slipping. “The drainage outside clogged—water’s overflowing into the café. If it reaches the ovens or fridges, we lose everything.”Her voice wavered. Just barely.“I’m here to help,” I said, stepping inside without hes
