Celeste’s POV

I sat stiffly in the passenger seat of the sleek black Mercedes, hands clenched on my lap, trying not to press too hard against the seatbelt. We’d just left the private airport, the city far behind us now, trees blurring past the window as we cruised along a countryside road that looked like something out of a dream.

No, not a dream. A painting.

Michael glanced at me from the driver’s side. “You okay?”

I bit my lip, nodding. “Mm-hmm. Just… taking it all in.”

He didn’t press. He just offered a small smile and refocused on the road.

But I wasn’t fine. Not really.

I was in France. For real.

Not on vacation. Not for a quick getaway.

This was going to be my life now—for the foreseeable future.

The thought made my chest feel tight. Like I’d leapt out of something burning and landed in a fog, not knowing what would emerge next.

Michael had taken care of everything. The flights. The documents. The long list of logistical things I didn’t have the mental energy to understand. I ha

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 173

Harper’s POVI told myself I wasn’t going.I told myself the cleanest goodbyes were the ones you never said out loud. And yet… here I was.Parked in a rental car near the private airport gate, hoodie pulled low, dark glasses on even though the sun hadn’t fully risen. Coffee cup in hand and heart pounding like a traitor in my chest.I hadn’t even responded to Michael’s last few messages. Not after everything.Because deep down, I knew I couldn’t face him again—not without crumbling, not without admitting that I cared more than I wanted to.My phone buzzed beside me. It was Celeste. [Hey… where are you? Thought you’d drop by to say goodbye.]I stared at the message for a long time, thumb hovering over the keyboard. I typed quickly before I could change my mind.[Sorry. Had to run an urgent errand. But call me when you land, okay? Safe flight.]It wasn’t exactly a lie. But it wasn’t the truth either. The truth was I couldn’t handle seeing him again. Not like this. Not when I was still t

Celeste’s POVI opened my mouth. The words were already there, trembling on the edge of my tongue.“I need to tell you something—”Theo’s phone rang. Not the usual tone. A sharp, formal chime—the one he reserved for business. He glanced at it, grimaced, then gave me an apologetic look.“I’m so sorry,” he said, already reaching for it. “It’s my grandfather’s office. I have to—”Of course. It was always his grandfather.I nodded, trying not to let the flash of disappointment show. “Go ahead.”He took the call just a few steps away, his back turned, voice low and professional. I watched him pace near the window, gesturing slightly as he spoke in quick, clipped tones. A familiar ache settled behind my ribs. This was what it was like—being with Theo meant sharing him with his family’s empire. With boardrooms and meetings and impossible expectations. He’d always made time for me, until he didn’t. Until moments like this.I turned away and padded softly to the bathroom. Splashed cool water o

Celeste’s POVI didn’t breathe. The figure stepped in, casting a familiar silhouette against the dim light from the hallway. A heartbeat later—“Celeste?” came the voice. My heart jumped. It’s Theo. Thank God. The knife slipped from my hand and clattered against the counter. My knees almost buckled from the sheer adrenaline rush. I pressed a palm to my chest as he shut the door behind him.“What the hell,” I whispered. “You scared me.”He looked stricken as he crossed the room quickly. “Shit, I’m sorry. I should’ve called. I didn’t know—Celeste, I just heard—”He cupped my face. “Are you okay?”Something about the way he touched me used to bring comfort. Now, it just made me feel… numb.“You just heard?” I asked, trying to keep my voice from cracking. “Theo, that was… days ago… ”“I was in Barcelona, working on that ridiculous merger my grandpa asked me to oversee. I didn’t even have my regular phone—he gave me a secured line. I only heard from one of my assistants this morning.” He

Damien’s POVThe night had teeth. It bit at the windows of my study, gnawing with every gust of wind that rattled the panes. But it wasn’t the cold that kept me anchored to the leather chair behind my desk. It was something far more unnerving—uncertainty. And it was spreading like poison through every corner of my mind.I stared at my phone. The screen lit up with a message:[“He’s out again. Same path. Same time.” -Calloway]Mr. Calloway had been our family gardener since I was a boy. The old man looked like the wind could blow him over, but he was sharper than any of the guards. Loyal. Observant. Quiet as a shadow. He’d seen things no one else was supposed to.And now he was watching Levi for me.I tapped a reply: [“Anyone with him?”]Seconds passed. Then:[“Dark sedan. Same one as last week. Driver waits around the bend.”]“Damn,” I muttered, my brows furrowing. Levi had been slipping through the estate's blind spots. Past the perimeter our security team insisted was tight. He’d fo

Celeste’s POVI shoved him back, my palms pressing hard against his chest.“What the hell is wrong with you?” I hissed.Damien didn’t resist. He stepped back, jaw clenched, that infuriating mix of guilt and yearning in his eyes.“Just go,” I snapped, my voice trembling now. Perhaps from irritation? Or maybe something else? I really couldn’t tell. “Celeste—”“I said go.”I turned on my heel before he could say anything else, marching out of the alley like my boots were on fire. My heart pounded so loudly I thought it might drown out the whole city.Harper’s car had just pulled up in front of the shop, headlights cutting through the dusk. She looked up and did a double take. “Whoa. What happened to you?”I yanked the passenger door open and climbed in without a word.“Drive,” I said.“Celeste—”“Just drive.”She didn’t argue. Not when I sounded like that. She pulled away from the curb, throwing one last glance in the rearview mirror.I stared straight ahead, arms folded, jaw locked.“W
