Celeste’s POV

Back in the suite, I felt the silence before I even heard it.

The door closed softly behind us, sealing the world out, sealing us in. Damien helped me ease onto the couch, then stepped away just enough to give me space but not far enough to truly feel distant. It was the kind of careful distance that made my chest tighten.

He moved around the small kitchenette, preparing tea like it was the most natural thing in the world — like we hadn’t just gone through a small emotional war downstairs.

“Chamomile?” he asked quietly.

I nodded. “Please.”

He handed me the mug, and the brush of his fingers against mine sent heat skittering up my arm. I kept my expression blank. Neutral. Pretending I didn’t feel anything was easier than acknowledging the opposite.

We sat beside each other — close but not touching — steam rising between us. Each sip felt like a countdown. To what, I wasn’t sure.

“How’s your leg?” he finally asked.

“It’s fine,” I murmured, even though it wasn’t. Even though

Nico’s POVI hated how much space Sage Keene took up in my head. It pissed me off how that voice made me want to be better. And now that I knew she was Martha Keene’s daughter?Yeah. Great. Just perfect. Two women on this ranch whose approval suddenly mattered to me for reasons I couldn’t explain without sounding like an idiot.I doubled my effort. I worked earlier, stayed later, fixed fences no one asked me to fix, mucked out stalls before anyone woke up.And Martha noticed.“Good work today, Nico,” she said one morning, clapping my shoulder. “Keep this up.”It shouldn’t have meant anything. But it did. Like some part of me—one I thought had died years ago—wanted to stand up straighter. But Sage? She didn’t give me a single damn inch. She avoided me, rolled her eyes whenever I passed, and only spoke to me with that clipped, unimpressed tone. It made me want her more. And it made me fucking insane. One afternoon, she marched past me near the paddocks, tossing a sack of feed over her

Damien’s POV“—Celeste? Damien?” The voice suddenly came. A bit muffled, but somewhere near. We jerked apart like we’d been shot. Our breaths came fast, uneven. My palm was still half-curled in the air where it had been holding her waist, and her fingers were still tangled in my shirt before she snatched them back like the fabric burned her.For a beat, the only sound was our breathing and the slowing patter of water dripping from the barn roof. Then I realized—the rain had stopped. The storm had been nothing but a quick passing shower. A few minutes, maybe.Long enough to drag us dangerously close to a line we’d been avoiding.Celeste looked away immediately, cheeks flushed, eyes darting anywhere except at me. And then she moved.Turned. Fast. Too fast.“Celeste—”But she was already limping toward the barn doors, determined even though her gait was uneven and her leg wasn’t ready for that kind of speed.I swore under my breath and followed her out into the clearing light of the vi

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 329

Celeste’s POVWe stepped into a small clearing between the vines, and for a moment I forgot how to breathe. The blanket was already laid out, tucked neatly between two ancient vines twisted together like old lovers. Bowls of fruit, warm pastries, butter, and jam were arranged with careful hands—not rushed, not careless. Even the thermos of coffee was placed where sunlight struck it just right, steam unfurling into the air like a quiet invitation. It wasn’t extravagant or loud. It was intentional.“This is…” My voice thinned, emotion pulling at its edges. “It’s beautiful.”He shrugged again, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s simple. But I thought you might like it.”“I love it,” I said before my brain could stop my mouth.Damien’s eyes softened in a way that made my stomach flip.We sat. We ate. And for the first time since we arrived yesterday, since the news of Alain, since everything, the two of us laughed together. The sound felt strange at first. Then freeing. He told me how on

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 328

Celeste’s POVThe moment my eyes opened the following morning, the first thing I saw was the vase.Alain’s vase.It sat on my bedside table, catching the soft light slipping past the curtains—earthy and uneven around the rim, the glaze slightly cracked in one spot. The tiny imperfection he’d pretended to be embarrassed about.I pushed myself up slowly, my chest tightening.“Good morning, Alain…” I whispered before I could stop myself.God.My fingers brushed the rim gently—like if I wasn’t careful, the memory of him might shatter right in front of me.“Why did you do it?” I breathed. “Why did you have to save me like that?”I waited for the tears, but none came. Just the same hollow ache expanding behind my ribs.If the body they found is really his…I closed my eyes, swallowing down the sting in my throat.“I’m sorry,” I whispered to the vase. “Sorry it had to be this way… But I hope it’s not yet too late for us to fix things. I hope you’re still out there, somewhere.”Silence wrappe

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 327

Damien’s POVI exhaled slowly through my nose. Of course everything would go to hell the moment I let myself breathe for five seconds.I didn’t even respond yet—just stared at the glowing screen until it dimmed, then buzzed again with two more messages. My father pulling strings behind my back wasn’t new—but managing to shove Levi into a position he wasn’t remotely ready for? That was a step farther than usual. And my mother causing chaos in the press again? That was the perfect cherry on top.At least Amaya had stayed quiet after what happened at the hotel. Small mercy. Or maybe she was simply planning her next move. I raked a hand through my hair.I had to go back. I didn’t have a choice. My eyes drifted again toward the garden—toward Celeste, shoulders hunched, head bowed as Harper held her close. She wasn’t crying. She wasn’t falling apart. She was surviving.Yet I hated that I wouldn’t be here when she needed someone later.Hated that returning to the U.S. felt like walking away

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 326

Damien’s POVThe shift in Celeste was instant. One moment she was smiling softly, the glow of homecoming still clinging to her like light. The next, her entire face collapsed in on itself, eyes widening, the color draining so fast it made my stomach drop.“What is it?” Harper asked quickly, stepping closer.Celeste’s lips parted, but no sound came out. She swallowed hard, forcing breath into her lungs, forcing control into hands that suddenly wouldn’t stay still.“They…” Her voice cracked. She tried again. “They found a man’s body. On the coast. It matches Alain’s description.”The room went silent.Like every laugh, every warm scent from the food, every bit of sunlight had been sucked out and replaced with cold air that scraped the lungs.Celeste stared at nothing, eyes fixed on a point past all of us, like the news had hit her so hard her mind couldn’t fully catch up.She didn’t cry. Didn’t break or fall apart. She was just there, looking shocked and hollow. Michael was the first t
