Chapter Sixty-Nine

I went back to my desk and got to work. There had to be something clearing my name, Carter’s name, and the entire company. But how was I supposed to articulate that I had shorted a stock based on the numbers I saw that they hadn’t figured out yet.

I could write down exactly what I had seen, so I started on a report I knew would span several pages. In the end, though, I had gone with my gut. Carter had made the pick because he had faith in me, and I had been right, but it was hard to put all that into words.

After a couple of hours, I got another email from Carter’s secretary. “Mr. Carter needs to see you in his office right away.”

My heart sank. He wasn’t just calling me up there for another fuck.

I gulped nervously as Carter’s secretary opened the door for me. Carter was sitting at his desk. He didn’t look happy to see me.
