Chapter Seventy

“It’s me. Open up.”

Part of me was excited that Carter actually came to see me. Part of me was still mad that he sent me home from work.

All of me didn’t want him to see the current state of my apartment. It was a mess.

“Why should I?” I asked, quickly picking up a handful of dirty clothes and putting them in a hamper.

“Because I want to apologize. I tried to call, but you didn’t pick up. I really do have pizza.”

I smiled. I could use some pizza right about now.

“Should you be seen with me right now?” I asked as I sealed up the ice cream and put it back in the freezer.

“Uh, hello? I know you looked through the peephole. Didn’t you see my awesome disguise?”

I laughed. “A hat? That’s your disguise?”

“And a pizza. Don’t forget the pizza.”

My tummy rumbled, even though I had just been shoveling ice cream into it. “How could I forget the pizza?”
